I think Motorola should come to its roots and build some series of the phones it had in the past, like a new Moto L (Motorola's old L-series were slim, goodlooking phones) but now make them touchscreen, tiny besels and price it nice.

They don't have the supply chain for it. They've typically had to wait 6-10 months for access to Samsung's latest screen tech. The Droid Razr used Galaxy S tech, the Razr HD the Galaxy Nexus, and the new Droid line uses shrunken Note 2 screens. Then they put their SoCs to a lot more testing than the competition, so between those two pieces, their flagships are perpetually a half year (or more) behind on specs.
