Motorola and Microsoft strengthen partnership to offer enhanced music experience

Motorola and Microsoft revealed at this year's 3GSM World Congress that they had signed an agreement, which further strengthens their relationship. According to the new agreement selected Motorola's music handsets will integarte Microsoft Windows Media technologies. The addition involves support for Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM), Windows Media Audio (WMA), the enhanced Windows Media Audio Pro codec as well as Media Transfer Protocol (MTP). Forthcoming Motorola music handsets will synchronize with PCs via USB 2.0, and through the MTP Windows Media Player will be able to recognize Motorola handsets, thus allowing users to quickly and easily sync their music from their PC to their phone. Moreover, the two companies plan to introduce mobile phones, which through the WMA Pro codec, will be able to fully benefit from the capabilities of 3G network. Windows Media-enabled handsets are expected to hit the market in the second half of 2006.
