Motorola X Phone pics surface: these are real folks! And, we've got more info on codename: Ghost

0. phoneArena 02 May 2013, 18:58 posted on

We've seen leaks before, but according to our sources, this one is legit. Pics have been released by EvLeaks, who has a more positive than not reputation for good leaks, showing the Motorola X Phone. Unfortunately, you can't really see much of the actual phone, because it is wearing a black case that is hiding the phone itself...

Why a 720 screen so late in the game when 1080p is becoming the norm. The ram and storage is good however the low resolution screen is a sticking point for "me".

Edited, the prototype is 720p, but the final is planned to be 1080p

Thanks for the edit because I hope Moto and Google get this right. At this point trying to make a position you need to bring your A gamel and a 1080p screen does just that

Google said its not going to be a "Wow" phone, so expect similar HW specs to say the HTC1 etc (Snapdragon 600 + 2Gbs Ram, etc)

720P isn't bad depending on the size. This has been rumored to be a mid range phone anyway which further justifies 720P.

our source can't confirm the actual size, but says it's around 4.7"

The M logo in the top left is different in each photo. It is an active logo, or those are different phones, each one with one different logo?

The jump from 720 to 1080 *on an LCD* isn't nearly as dramatic as the jump from 480 to 720 was. Apple really was on to something with the "retina" thing. There are so few times I feel I need a resolution any higher than 720 on my phone (granted it's only a 4.3" screen, but still). On the other hand, a PenTile 720 screen like on the GS3 or Razr HD still has visible jaggies to me. So it really depends on the screen tech Moto chose.

I agree. Something with a 5.5+ inch display is amazing with a 1080p display That's like 400ppi and that still is a very high ppi count. But if you only have 4.5/4.7 with a 1080p display, it really just is overkill at that point.(Over 468 ppi)

What's the difference your eye can see between a 360 ppi vs 468 ppi? The numbers might seem huge, but compare them side by side on a screen with the same size and type and you won't be able to see any real difference.

I don't disagree with HTC putting a 1080 screen in the One, because they need as many selling points as they can get. But I don't think there's a practical *need* for 1080 LCD screens below 5". It's a bit of a marketing gimmick/bragging rights thing, like the megapixel wars.

Very true, the idea of someone "needing" it on their device with a screen that small is just silly. But when you have a near 6 inch phablet, then yes there's a need for it because without it, you're going to have a lot of pixelation.

Damn really pixilation on 6" screen with anything below 1080p? How in the hell did Televisions go for so long on 720 pictures with screens ranging from 27"-70" Matter of fact I still have an old TV that's 32" and is 720p and yes my 1080p TV's do look better but on 6" screen you can not see 1080p and 720p differences unless you zoom way into something on a photo. Ya'll are on crack to think and believe you gotta have 1080p on 6" screen.

Because they further you are away from a display, the higher the pixel density seems. You obviously won't hold a 27" TV as close as you would a 6 inch display, so pixel density isn't as important. A 720p 27" TV has a pixel density of about 55 ppi, but because of how far you would usually view it from it doesn't look like it; phones now have pixel densities much higher than 300 ppi because we view them closely and can see pixels more easily.

Why the blind obsession with 1080P (pardon the pun). Do you have the sharpest eyes in the world or are you going to use the phone right up in front of your face? Honestly this scramble for ultraspecs just for the sakes of it makes me laugh.

The Lumia 920 screen looks every bit as good as any 1080P phone screen and the dual core processor is sufficient enough to keep the software ticking along nicely. Quad core is not required with the right software!

You should try a Lumia for a couple of weeks and see for yourself.....and no I'm not a troll, I'm previously a huge Android fan, converted to WP and Nokia. I gave my 8 month old GS3 to my son and got a new contract, just to get the Lumia 920, and I don't regret it for one second.

If you can buy a product and every thing is the same except one product has a better feature for the same price even if it isn't that noticeable you would have to really want the product with a less feature for the same price.

Not many people will buy something and not try to buy the very best that they can for the same cost period.....except maybe you!

Out of 100 people if they saw that the product was equal in every way and one had a 720p and one had a 1080p screen most would opt for the 1080p unit.

12 thumbs down to a statement that was valid enough to cause an "EDIT" 1080 was not mentioned when I 1st read it. lol now thumb this down too.lol

I still stand by at this point had it been introduced at 720 it would not sell as wel to moist people when there are 1080p phones like the S4 or the HTC ONE.

Could you explain that? The only visible part of the phone is a blurry picture of the rear panel.

I don't think that's the real rear panel. It could be, but I think it's more of the "case".

Our source has held the prototype and says that is the actual rear of the device.

The phone is in a case so as to protect its true identity. The only thing you can see that is apart of the phone is the screen. Try reading the article first.

You must not have read the part where the phone's appearance is covered up by a non disclosure case.
