probably better than anyone's phone, but galaxy s seems smoother in browser, better design, and the same processing power

Bulky? This phone is as thin as they come. The screen is large, get over it tiny tim. if you have hands the size of an elf, its your problem. People have demanded for a large screen phone, and we are finally getting one. I'm so sick of all the 3.0 screens that are too damn small.

@itony523- How do you figure? All 4 major carriers are getting a Galaxy S variant.

i am getting the iphone tomorrow but I agree that this phone is sexy....

@RORYREVOLUTION: idk how you can't think this phone is bulky. Sure it is super thin but its still very large and will still take up all the space in your pocket if you can even find pockets big enough for this phone. I wanna like it but i can't get over the size. Its the perfect compromise if you want the ipad or a smartphone

Yeah, I actually kind of like this phone now too (it's still pretty big). I really like the panaromic picture thingy and the HDMI output. If the new iPhone 4 is going to have iMovie, then it should of had HDMI also. Hopefully Apple adds an iphone cable that is HDMI capable. But considering that Verizon is going to sell their cable for $50, I don't think Apple's would be much cheaper, so cross that off the list. NFL app is kind of pointless, I'm sure people would rather like to watch the games on the big screen with friends or something. But if you're not at home then I guess that would be useful. And I don't know why not just go with Netflix because blockbuster seems done now. I'm also glad that Apple didn't add a bump on the back of the iPhone 4 just to have 8 megapixels. And can someone explain to me the DLNA thing. Can you play videos from your phone onto the computer/tv wirelessly or only use the Droid X as a remote? Also is this DLNA thingy the EyeCon app that was in the Droid X commercial script?

$50 for the hdmi cable? Sorry but no, the pricing was released at 19.99. but nice try though at crippling a clear advantage this phone has over the iphone

samsung galaxy S= everyone's win lol all 4 carriers getting it and sprint getting it and one with a keyboard
29. E.N. (Posts: 2239; Member since: 25 Jan 2009)
I didn't make that up myself. Go over to Engadget and watch the video posted by them. I don't care enough to cripple the features of the Droid X. Like I said before, I really like the Droid X. But it doesn't pack in enough new features for me to even think it necessary to cripple features. You Android users are so uptight that you think everyone is out to get you http://www.engadget.com/2010/0
34. testman22 (Posts: 337; Member since: 03 Nov 2009)
again, just conjecture by some guy from engadget guy in a random video? not a very reliable source. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/
0,2817,2365609,00.asp$25 here. And droid X is a standard HDMI port so you can get cables easily for 5 bucks. where the iphone is missing the hdmi port, if they ever did create such an accesory, it would be proprietary (just like everything else apple $$$$$$$$$$$$$$)

Why does everyone who says that this phone is big gets a bunch of (-1)'s? Yeah this phone is big. Compare it to an average sized phone like a blackberry and this phone is massive. This is going to be a great phone but yes, it is still big! There is not way to say it isn't. To say this phone isn't big is like trying to gay Heidi Klum isn't hot.

Iphone being massacarded by... ( and in no paticular order) HTC evo HTC incredible Droid x Droid 2 Samsung galaxy S Samsung Galaxy S pro
62. donzere (Posts: 12; Member since: 10 Jun 2010)
It is quite funny when people say that the iphone has been massacred or whatever..... But guess what, the iphone will sell more units than any other phone on the planet. So how is that.
66. Droidaddict (Posts: 1; Member since: 27 Jun 2010)
Actually in 2009 with the Hype of the iPhone the Blackberry curve was the hottest selling phone on the planet.. the iphone got its bells and whistles, sure, but with the network its on its really just a chubby glorified iTouch.... so I hope you like apples
3. phone333 (Posts: 331; Member since: 04 Feb 2009)
They should take a pic with the EVO and Droid X ...and the iphone in the middle with a broken screen...lol
55. PapaJay224 (Posts: 866; Member since: 08 Feb 2009)
Or that same picture with the iPhone with a GIANT YELLOW CRAP STAIN! OH WAIT?!?!

The iphone killer......is Apple's iOS 4. I loaded it to my 3GS this week. It was ruined the iphone. I did a quick search on Apple and saw lots of posts about problems with it. The X might get me back to VZ, (huge savings going back to my VZ family)
9. iTony523 (Posts: 36; Member since: 31 Jul 2009)
lol Verizon is killing At&t and Apple now with all these android devices... maybe Verizon not going with apple 3 years ago finally payed off..
22. E.N. (Posts: 2239; Member since: 25 Jan 2009)
what makes you think that they're killing Apple and AT&T?
24. networkdood (Posts: 6261; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
Honestly, VERIZON is just slowing their churn rate to AT&T right now - smart move on their part. But killing AT&T, uhh, the latest figures show otherwise and with IPHONE 4 on the way, there will be records broken - even more so than with the Ipad.
47. Whateverman (Posts: 3189; Member since: 17 May 2009)
VZW has had the lowest churn in the industry for 17 of the last 18 quarters. I wouldn't say that VZW is killing Att either but slowing the churn sounds like something we use to say about Sprint when they were about to go belly up. (Go come back Sprint)
11. networkdood (Posts: 6261; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
If my wife was still with VERIZON, I would buy this phone and root it. I am just glad that AT&T has a decent android phone and is rootable now. This phone seems excellent - key is VERIZON is doing what AT&T allows its customer to do - accelerated upgrade eligibilty - I can seee less churn for VERIZON in 2010 due to their lineup of phones. In the past, VERIZON customer defected for the iphone because VERIZON had nothing to compare it with. Now, VERIZON has that and more. Great situation for a consumer when you have the top four networks, all with good to great phones. Let us hope the FCC does not screw things up....

Another iPhone Killer Like I haven't heard that every third during of the last few years whenever a new phone comes out. People need to make up their minds! Was it the phone that came out 3 days ago that was the iPhone Killer or is it this one. Wait! I'm sure it's the one coming out 3 days from now!

It was Android's multitasking that killed the iPhone for power users. The iPhone is great for stupid people, of which there are many.
21. E.N. (Posts: 2239; Member since: 25 Jan 2009)
The iPhone is great for stupid people? Wow, whatever. But anyways Apple did really well with their multitasking. The only thing that can kill the iPhone's multitasking is if developers don't update their apps with the new APIs. Probably all apps from now on are going to be able to multitask, but its just those older ones that need software updates. Most utilities, social networking apps, etc will update pretty quickly. It's just the games that might take a little longer to work with iOS4 multitasking. And you guys have to remember that multitasking is not just fast app switching. I don't know why people keep saying/thinking that. With iOS4, you can play music in the background, upload stuff, download stuff, finish loading a web page, track your location and other gps services, make skype calls, etc. I've used Android phones plenty of times and don't see anything that's really missing from iphone. That covers just about everything you need multitasking to do. Is there a specific multitasking function that you would personally like to see on the iPhone?
37. cc16177 (Posts: 312; Member since: 09 May 2010)
The iPhone is good for stupid people, most iPhone users will readily admit they are not good with technology which is WHY they use the iPhone. Also, after reading many of your posts in the last few days E.N., are you Steve Jobs?
43. theGodpapa (Posts: 181; Member since: 15 Dec 2009)
E N you know nothing of multi tasking on a IPhone then. Thats how a ANDROID works with multi tasking, but the IOS 4 doesnt work that way, not now and probably not ever.
70. vinsterdamus (Posts: 58; Member since: 20 Feb 2010)
"Is there a specific multitasking function that you would personally like to see on the iPhone?" eh i really don't want to see a iphone at least not in my hands. not that it isn't a good phone but well i can't pull a lefty with the new one :P and android just works better for me. (i'm a power user not one of the stupid people) I still wonder how ios works when it needs to support 50+ models like all other os types do. don't hate apple just think they got it easy in there position.
17. nalinbhatt (Posts: 2; Member since: 23 Jun 2010)
Samsung galaxy S is better than this one and iPhone definitely sucks..I have it and I hate it now. I love Android devices now.
18. tafree04 (Posts: 6; Member since: 07 Jun 2010)
I'm selling my Incredible and getting this phone.
19. becazican (unregistered)
iphone does not suck, say what you want but apple is the leader in technology. what sucks and is a joke is the carrier they tied themselves to. at&t is the problem.
23. vzw fanman (Posts: 1971; Member since: 11 Dec 2008)
apple may have been the leader in technology back in 2007 or even 2008 but now there are much better devices out. and since apple makes very little changes to each gen iphone, sooner or later you will pick up an iphone and go, nextttt.
30. E.N. (Posts: 2239; Member since: 25 Jan 2009)
"We're not going to beat around the bush -- in our approximation, the iPhone 4 is the best smartphone on the market right now. The combination of gorgeous new hardware, that amazing display, upgraded cameras, and major improvements to the operating system make this an extremely formidable package. Yes, there are still pain points that we want to see Apple fix, and yes, there are some amazing alternatives to the iPhone 4 out there. But when it comes to the total package -- fit and finish in both software and hardware, performance, app selection, and all of the little details that make a device like this what it is -- we think it's the cream of the current crop." - Engadget Sorry dude, but iphone isn't going anywhere.
35. vzw fanman (Posts: 1971; Member since: 11 Dec 2008)
the fact that the iphone is updated does not make it the god phone. people's judgment for the iphone is clouded by their love for apple. the refuse to try anything else even though there are better things out there.
36. vzw fanman (Posts: 1971; Member since: 11 Dec 2008)
Cnet editor reviewing the iphone 4- "and keeping--a strong connection continues to be a challenge. Even in the first few moments testing the device, we had a dropped call, even though we had full bars. We also had a couple of calls that failed to connect in an area where we knew that AT&T reception is good"
39. cc16177 (Posts: 312; Member since: 09 May 2010)
I'm sure there's an iPhone forum somewhere that actually cares about what you have to say.
53. jenn05 (Posts: 14; Member since: 24 Jun 2010)
Agreed! Same with Blackberry. I've got a ton of friends that I introduced to Blackberry about 2 years ago and now I have switched to Android and can't get them to budge. Granted I am a bit of tech geek, but actually so are a few of them and I still can't get them to budge! I was a little sad about leaving my BBM friends, but the TOTAL AWESOMENESS of the Android OS WAY outweighs anything BB is offering right now.......and by the looks of it, anything they have to offer in the future. (I was pulling for you RIM, but you are running way behind in the game at this point and I gotta catch up!) Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it's just the fact that they don't even realize how much better Android is than BB just because they won't let go of their BB's long enough to even give it a chance! C'mon people! Let's be just a little open-minded here. Anyway, it just irks me that the new technology coming out is so awesome and some people just refuse to let go of the old and embrace the new. Oh well, enough of my soapbox rantings. Their loss! I've gone Android for good and don't miss my BB at all. Can't wait to get my DROID X on July 15!
25. networkdood (Posts: 6261; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
What is funny is that my wife downloaded the iOS4 on 6/21 and was giddy with excitement at having a "NEW" phone....the multitasking and folder organization for apps was already with my HTC ARIA - again, the ARIA is a great phone - rather have HTC than a motorola product.....

Wow, this phone is really amazin. Love it
33. ayephoner (Posts: 836; Member since: 09 Jun 2009)
iphone killers, huh? hahahahaha. someone should call apple. theres no way they'll be able to tell with iphone 4 completely outselling the preorder on the first day. 300,000 units in just a few hours of PRESALE! 13 million visits in the first day to the presale site?? apple is going to be so surprised to find out their device has been killed. android devices are great, but the iphone is pretty far from going away. i hope you see the door apple has left open to release the iphone 4G next summer. i dont like it, but they will sell a new phone to the exact same people every summer. get used to it.
40. cc16177 (Posts: 312; Member since: 09 May 2010)
Just because people continue to buy it doesn't mean there isn't something better; I sell plenty of Samsung Knacks.

There is one question that is still unanswered for me....does this phone support DivX, and would i be able to transfer and play my .avi video files on the phone? because with past android phones, including droid and incredible i wasnt able to. thanks
52. jenn05 (Posts: 14; Member since: 24 Jun 2010)
I think she says something about DivX on this vid. Check it out.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v

Funny thing is I've always been an Iphone slappy. I got my new Iphone 4 yesterday and after about 10-15 min I began to think. Wow this was over hyped. I am finally released from the apple spell. I put my iphone on craigslist and will be switching to Verizon to buy this bad boy. I look forward to giving Android a look.
45. Hallucinator (Posts: 340; Member since: 24 May 2010)
You have the right to say I told you so
51. jenn05 (Posts: 14; Member since: 24 Jun 2010)
Wow! That is awesome. Makes me feel better about getting this phone. Even tho iPhone has never been an option for me (absolutely no AT&T service where I live), I have always felt it was just out of my reach. But hearing comments like this make me think I am also out of the iPhone spell. Never actually had it, but now never actually need/want it. Thanks for the input!
42. gambino37 (Posts: 146; Member since: 16 Oct 2009)
Anyone know if Verizon is waiving yearly upgrade times as well or just the two year upgrade time? Thanks
50. jenn05 (Posts: 14; Member since: 24 Jun 2010)
I heard that VZW is allowing anyone who will come available for an upgrade in 2010 to do an early upgrade to get the Droid X.
56. gambino37 (Posts: 146; Member since: 16 Oct 2009)
Yea it says that in the article. My concern is if they are talking about being due after their 2 year contracts are up. Or will the one year upgrade condidions be included as well. I can do a one year upgrade in October of this year. Just curious if that counts.
