Motorola DROID X 2, DROID 3, and Targa to come after the BIONIC

0. phoneArena 15 Mar 2011, 15:52 posted on

It appears there will be a Motorola DROID X 2, DROID 3, and a new code-name device called Targa. This device will also support 4G, as it is clearly shown on the back cover. We can also see a front facing camera for video chats, capacitive buttons on the bottom, HDMI out on the side, and under the rear camera it looks to say "13MP / AF". Our guess is this device probably won't be out until Q4 for the holidays.

I think that those pics of the Droid X2 are just pics of the "new" Droid X, with only a 2GB pre-installed microSD, and maybe an updated version of Android. Now the Targa looks like it could be a true successor to the Droid X. The Droid 3 looks fairly good, but it seemed like the Droid 2 didn't go over soo good and I doubt that they'll put out a 3rd version.

The way I see it, the Bionic is the true successor to the Droid X, and the Targa will be a successor to the Bionic. That hump on the back supports the killer camera, just like the one on the X.

As for the Droid 3, I see that as an upgrade for people who still rock a Droid but have a 2 year contract. The Droid 2 wasn't much of an upgrade, but with a bigger, qHD screen, much better keyboard and a dual core, this will be.

If you can't quite see what it says along the camera on the Targa, just keep zooming in and "enhancing," like you see in all the movies!

I'm thrilled with the keyboard redesign on the Droid 3. A proper five row keyboard with well-spaced, raised keys. This will be my new phone.

i also notice on the keyboard shot of the Droid 3 that there are 2 ports there on the bottom of what would be the left side of the phone, perhaps an HDMI port has been added?

The x-2 looks identical to the X. Are we posistive this is a new phone? The buttons, mic, and everything is identical to the Droid X. Pretty sure your super spy photos of the X-2, are merely the first Droid X.

I guess some of you dont follow techie sites like this. The phone pictured is the Droid X2, which is the Droid X reboot. Better quality screen and dual core processor. They are not just posting pictures of the Costco Droid X with a 2GB card in it. The super spy photos are correct.

Dude its been pretty much handed to us on a silver platter. Been posted on every site and has everything set minus a release date. Get with the program.

you mean via pictures of a Droid X? that's handing it to us on a silver platter? the scheme here doesn't make any sense so the news about this being a Droid X 2 will be met with my skepticism, i'd be willing to stick with a story if they reviled this to be a minor refresh to the current X but not a full blown successor.

The Droid X 2 IS a minor refresh. Its the same body just different internals. The full blown successor is possibly the Targa. Which the article states. I think you are confused my friend.

i don't think you see my point, you see the fact that it's called the Droid X 2 would insinuate that this device with the same body as the original Droid X is next in line in the Droid X series as a successor, i don't think that's it's place, i think it should simply be a refresh of the current model, the true successor and rightful bearer of the Droid X 2 name is this newcomer the "Targa" as they call it, which has all of the necessary bumps in specifications and design to justify branding it as such and in the article PA said it is "in the Droid X model series" not a direct successor to the current model. so am i still confused or misinformed about anything friend?

Is there any chance the X2 spy pics we see here are test mules? Using the X2 internals in the X body for testing purposes, but the production models will have a different external design? (This is commonly done in the car industry - don't know if they would do something like that with phones.)

First, I'm saying the Targa is my next phone (if these specs are right), contract be Da*ned. Second, I don't mind Motoblur (on my DX). I like the widgets it provides, and I can disable what ever parts of it I don't like. The X has plenty of horsepower to run it fine. (especially overclocked.) And finally, short of going with vanilla android, what other theme would you suggest? Motoblur is a solid UI, many people like sense (which launcher pro is kinda like), but it's a resource hog. In short, if true, Targa=Perfect

I have read from many fans that the "X" made great use of Motoblur, more so then any other phone. I have had only one experience- helping a friend at my Church who is a trucker set up his Droid Pro. (It was actually pretty funny, he had this scared look like he was gonna blow it up if he touched it wrong.) I found the criticisms of extra steps to everything to be accurate. But those with the "X" say it just enhances the experience, and that the phones speed makes it more responsive. So I am willing to look at these choices and see how they use it.

I will say this. The Droid 3 really looks like it is the true successor to the original droid. The keyboard looks way better and finally 5 row. From the screen shot, it looks like it will have a 4 inch display which will make a lot of people happy(myself included). And if these do have motoblur, I really hope they have a new version that works fine without lagging and the other issues.

I can't get over how perfect that keyboard looks. Look at it, then look at a PC keyboard...everything is in the right place, right down to the ~` key. This isn't just a Droid, it's a true pocket computer.

I have the moto droid and waited for the Droid X with a keyboard, waited, waited and you can get a keyboard but no LTE, or LTE but no keyboard or the screen is too small, or it's 3G only, on and on . . .I've waited for years and the Bionic appears but no keyboard. Tegra will be out around Xmas and that doesn't have a keyboard!! No decent sized phone with LTE, 4g, and decent megapixels. Someone wake me from this nightmare...I can't even find a future phone to be excited about, nothing to look forward too. WoW i feel as if I lost all my co-writers as friends who I have nothing further to talk about. No more tecky talk, no more comments, I have fallen by the way side with all the hopes of looking forward to the future...one of the sadest days of my life. not kidding, another year will have to pass.

Fret not! This is just the first generation of LTE phones. I think the radio hardware for LTE must be much bulkier than existing 3G chips, and that's why the upcoming phones (Thunderbolt, Bionic, Stealth, Revolution, Targa) are all huge. Putting a hardware keyboard in an LTE phone would result in something the size of the Bionic but 50% thicker. I'm sure as LTE chip makers improve the tech, it will shrink to where we can have ultra-thin, midsize and qwerty options.

DROID 4...G sounds pretty good to me.

Lol, you would be mad to buy a Moto - worst quality control in the industry: Defy earpiece, Atrix call quality. Just go look at their official support forum. The worst thing is, when there is a big problem they just try to keep it quiet and keep selling the faulty phones. Fail.
