Wow, it is a nice looking phone - I hope it is worth 299.99 for 2 yr contract. I wonder what Amazon, Costco and Walmart will be selling it for once they start selling it?

8. nastynaps posted on 26 Oct 2011, 12:46 2 1

Yea I'm hoping Amazon slashes that price for the holidays. I've been waiting since July for a phone worthy of an upgrade and now I got 3, decisions decisions. I'm goign to wait for the Christmas sales I think.

I can't see how this phone can suck at all. The specs are pretty legit and the thinness...I can't wait to just hold one. But, you never know. The Blackberry Bold was supposed to be the second coming and my God there were bugs in that thing. Same with the dreaded Storm. Still, specs alone make me want to see this thing in action.

16. sgogeta4 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 13:52 2 3

Why does it suck? Because Verizon looks their bootloader. While it might feel good, the Nexus is IMO the way to go. The Nexus' plastic polymer is actually more durable than the marketing crap that Motorola uses with the Razr. Not to say the build quality is bad, because the Razr is far from that in terms of build quality, just that people underestimate the Nexus because of the word "plastic".

Other than that, Droid RAZR is an OMAP 4430 overclocked. The Galaxy Nexus is an OMAP 4460 underclocked. Plus the S-AMOLED may not be RGB, but it's still a really high resolution... Samsung's RGBG configuration seems to work much better than Motorola's RGBW.

27. gemmabba posted on 26 Oct 2011, 18:00 2 1

please educate yourself samsung fans....

TI OMAP4460 in samsung is the underclocked one...and Moto no longer use the RGBW pentile for RAZR...RAZR use S AMOLED Advanced

if you want to bash a phone please at least read the spec of the phone first....so you dont humiliate yourself

30. sgogeta4 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 21:15 1 1

Umm I said the Nexus is underclocked, which is good because that means you can overclock it further than the RAZR (which is already overclocked and of a lower chipset). Do you even know what SAMOLED "Advanced" entails and how it compares to the Nexus? It's mostly marketing BS.

My Moto Rep brought one by today and I was able to play with it. It is a phenomenal device! I am not even that big of a fan of Motorola, but they got it right with this phone!

Its even thinner than I thought, and the screen looks so bright and vibrant. I was rather impressed!

2. ygswagg11 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 12:09 1 4

im not excited about the razr at all design looks good but GALAXY neXus is the better choice IMHO but to each there own ...im sure alot will enjoy this device well as the nexus good thing is we all have more choice more choice is better especially with verizon blazing fast 4g lte ;]

3. jackhammeR posted on 26 Oct 2011, 12:12 5 2

can you explain why do you think that galaxy is a better choice?

4. roldefol posted on 26 Oct 2011, 12:15 3 4

Two simple reasons: ICS (we don't know for sure when the Razr will get the upgrade) and the HD screen. That sold me on the Nexus.

9. Paden posted on 26 Oct 2011, 12:46 2 4

@roldefol: Exactly.

Also, it's just a thinner Bionic..? I don't get this. I don't get it at all.

10. roldefol posted on 26 Oct 2011, 12:53 3 1

I give Motorola points for pushing thin design and giving AMOLED fans another option, but I don't like the non-removable battery trade-off. How many people out there pushing the Razr over the Nexus are just Motorola fans? Be honest.

15. ayephoner posted on 26 Oct 2011, 13:41 2 1

well, the durability of the phone is awesome. from what i understand the build quality (feel) of the razr far excedes the galaxy nexus. kevlar and gorilla glass are both really big. and you also get expandable memory here.

im holding out to see benchmarks, head to head final build reviews, to hold each in my hand and hopefully to see some timeline of ICS launch on razr (but i doubt we'll get that until next year sometime)

25. ledbetterp3 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 17:35 3 1

@Padan, Razr has a bigger processor than the bionic, dual core 1.2ghz vs 1ghz on bionic, also, it has a super amoled screen for those nice colors you usually see on android phones. It also has more clarity for it does not have a pentile screen and lastly it has more battery life, all in a very slim phone. Oh and a nice design!

5. c.hack posted on 26 Oct 2011, 12:25 4 1

Each phone has its advantages:
- The Razr is thinner, and has better construction
- The Nexus already has ICS and is designed to use the ICS on-screen buttons - the RAZR never will
- The Nexus has a user replaceable battery
- Samsung has historically had better cameras
- Both are first gen LTE which requires separate radios and bigger batteries, and have a penalty on battery life.

6. DROIDX0430 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 12:32 4

Gingerbread is not a bad OS--so realistically ICS shouldn't be your sole reason for buying a phone....a lot of other factors come to mind....Brand, LTE, RAM, BATTERY SIZE, DISPLAY, EXPANSION MEMORY SLOT, just to name a few...But being the RAZR-- which is a Motorola product, and who now owns or is attempting to own Motorola Mobility.....you guessed it Google!!! so Google/Motorola want delay any update to ICS on any of the Motorola smartphones on any carrier...

7. DROIDX0430 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 12:36 1

First generation LTE---never heard of it...What will second generation LTE consist of--being the fact that first generation LTE is not even completly rolled out to end of 2013 on VW, and ATT having only 5 cities TOTAL with 4G to date...Was there a 1st, 2nd, 3rd generation of 3G??? Comment #5

11. roldefol posted on 26 Oct 2011, 12:56 1

He's referring to the first generation of LTE chips, which judging from Verizon's offerings until now require a lot of space inside the phone and drain the battery rapidly. The next generation of chips (Snapdragon 8960, Exynos 4212, etc) will have the LTE modem built in, allowing smaller devices and better power consumption.

21. networkdood posted on 26 Oct 2011, 14:35 1

AT&T has some nice LTE phones on the way with a better chip...at least from what I read...

22. roldefol posted on 26 Oct 2011, 15:19 2

Verizon probably has some nice LTE phones on the way next year too. Nobody's saving their special LTE chips for AT&T, they're just late to the party and will therefore start with newer hardware.

13. Droid_X_Doug posted on 26 Oct 2011, 13:29

Still nothing 'official' from VZW about pre-orders. I am not denying that pre-orders can be placed starting at 8:00 a.m. Eastern tomorrow. Just that I haven't received a notice to that effect from VZW. Makes me wonder why I bothered to sign up for new information.

14. roldefol posted on 26 Oct 2011, 13:37

It's up on the Droid Razr page at VZW right now, "Pre-Order Begins 10/27." Is that official enough?

18. Droid_X_Doug posted on 26 Oct 2011, 14:07 2

So why did I sign up (and give VZW my e-mail address to receive the latest news on the RAZR) when VZW's silence has been deafening?

20. roldefol posted on 26 Oct 2011, 14:13 2 3

You're right. This is the last straw. Let's all switch to AT&T. Their LTE is way better.

Maybe they aren't sending e-mails until tomorrow morning. You're acting like Verizon owes you a personal invitation.

32. Droid_X_Doug posted on 26 Oct 2011, 22:31

"You're acting like Verizon owes you a personal invitation."

Wasn't that the reason for signing up and giving them my e-mail address? Why else would I give them my e-mail address?

UPDATE: At 4:28 p.m. Pacific, I get an e-mail from VZW advising me about the pre-order period opening at 8:00 a.m. Eastern tomorrow. This after every technical web site I follow had posted at least 4 hours before about pre-orders being accepted tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. Eastern.

17. DROIDX0430 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 14:00 1

OK, then if the first generation LTE chips fit into the RAZR, WHICH is a very thin smartphone---then what's your case....if we are still on first generation LTE.....#11

19. roldefol posted on 26 Oct 2011, 14:09 1 1

For a 4.3" screen, the Razr is pretty wide and tall. They still had to compromise the phone's size to fit the current hardware. With next-gen LTE hardware, it could be the size of the SGS2, only thinner.

I'm not knocking the overall Razr design, but by next year we'll see even more neatly packaged phones.

24. shelley.bevacqua posted on 26 Oct 2011, 16:42 2

Do you know about any rumored phones with the above chips included? I just want to read up on it. I have been eligible to upgrade since July 2011. And I do happen to think the phones are to big despite the impressive specs !

33. roldefol posted on 28 Oct 2011, 13:37

Alas, no. I expect we'll see the new tech in phones next spring. If you're looking for something worthy of your upgrade now but smaller than a Nexus or Razr, check out the Rezound. All three should be out together in a couple weeks.

26. ledbetterp3 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 17:39 1

Any word on the possible At&t version? If it does release, will it run on At&t's upcoming LTE network?

28. willardcw4 posted on 26 Oct 2011, 19:00 2 1

Not trying to bash the RAZR, but am I the only one that doesn't find it good looking? I don't think I'm picky, but to me, it looks kind of odd.

31. BattleBrat posted on 26 Oct 2011, 21:38

Verizon sent me an email today, didn't even remember signing up, maybe it is just because my upgrade is available.

I'm on the fence between this and an Iphone 4s, I have a 4th gen 64gb Itouch and a Droid 1 that I'm using as my phone, and I dunno what to get, If I try to wait for the "latest and greatest" Android phone, I'll be waiting forever, because new phones come out constantly, at some point you have to draw a line in the sand, pick a phone and live with it till your next upgrade. I'm interested in the RAZR because I am pleased with how my Droid has performed these two years, I'm in love with the build quality, I've dropped it multiple times and the keyboard sliding action is still smooth, and the screen still uncracked, the droid took a beating and took it well, the RAZR looks like it can take it as well, except for this time I feel that a better case will be available for the RAZR as it doesn't have a slide out keyboard. And MAN is that RAZR thin! Thinner than a Droid X and I thought that was thin! Wow!
On the other hand, the Iphone 4s has a new camera, and I have over 30 camera/imaging apps, it also has a vast array of accessories at its disposal, but then again so does the RAZR (some pretty slick ones at that, the laptop thing could potentially affect my decision to buy an Ipad..) but then I would need to buy some sort of Android based media player to use my android apps on...
Decisions, decisions.....
