I am in utter shock that the Razr Maxx HD lasted more than 5 minutes with that tiny battery. Thank you, Alan F., for reassuring us.

those who don't want to charge nightly.

Why would that surprise anyone? Motorola didnot put maxx in its name for fun.

5. redmd posted on 23 Nov 2012, 00:35 2

why not put Razr maxx HD against the note 2.

yes it's been observed that Exynos processors have the best standby times.

7. mr.techdude posted on 23 Nov 2012, 01:08

Isn't the HTC one x's Standby time like one of the best

10. Berzerk000 posted on 23 Nov 2012, 02:03

I heard that too. Except it was with the Evo LTE, but it's the same thing just +200 mAh difference in battery. PhoneDog said it easily went through a day and about half way through the second day; and with standby time, he (Aaron) said he left it on his desk for the entire weekend unplugged came back and used it for part of the day Monday before it needed a charge.

So apparently, either HTC is wonderful with standby times or the S4 is wonderful with power management, either way it's nice.

Lol dats were I heard it 2 from phonedog good catch matie

"One interesting stat is that when it comes to standby times, the Samsung Galaxy S III actually bests both the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD and the Apple iPhone 5. Those hours, respectively, are 770, 372 and 225."

oh really? have you measured that or just read in specs? I dont think SGS3 would stay for 32 days anyway, even a half of it.

11. Berzerk000 posted on 23 Nov 2012, 02:07

They just read off the spec sheet on that one. I don't think anyone has tested standby time for those 3 devices.

14. darac posted on 23 Nov 2012, 02:52

Well I can confirm that my s3 just dropped 1% during an 8 hour standby.
The number seems to be spot on

25. McMachine posted on 23 Nov 2012, 14:46

What S3 modelo do You have?

27. darac posted on 23 Nov 2012, 16:15

i9300..international version with quad core Exynos

28. McMachine posted on 24 Nov 2012, 07:17

I see, I ask that because i had the US version with the Snapdragon, and it drain my battery like a vampire sucking the blood out of a human on standby!!! :'( thats why i don't have it and more! And thats why im planning to Get the Note 2.

It is possible through various tweaks....

9. Tsepz_GP posted on 23 Nov 2012, 01:54 2

Would love to have that battery in my GS3, Motorola seem to be the only ones in the industry who are truly focus on battery tech, although Samsung have done some great work in the GS3 and GNote2, they have implemented so incredible power saving optimizations in both phones, it seems they did some tweaking to the Exynos and Qualcomm chips they use to ensure that the phones dont consume much power under moderate use and in stand by.

I wish Motorola would focus on performance of their UI to though, would make their phones even more attractive.

22. thunder18 posted on 23 Nov 2012, 09:48

It's not battery thechive.com they are focusing on, they simply crammed a massive lithium-polymer battery pack in there, sealed it up and called it a day. You can do that kind of thing when you make the battery non user serviceable. Same thinking with the Note II. The phone itself is huge so they have more space to fit a larger battery. In reality, LG is the only one who has made useful advances in battery tech. The Optimus G and Nexus 4 batteries can accept 800 charge cycles instead of the usual 500.

23. thunder18 posted on 23 Nov 2012, 09:49

Stupid auto-correct. That was supposed to be battery tech in the first sentence.

29. TritonForceX posted on 26 Nov 2012, 13:49

I'm wondering what we may see next year from Motorola. Since most of this year was spent by Google acquiring and restructuring Motorola, I can see minimal updates to the phones over Motorola. They took what was available, concentrated on these three models, and cleaned them up.

The real test to see if Google made a good investment is going to come next year after they've had a year to do research, test, and make some real improvements over Motorola's original Android phones.

Oh my god this is shocking!.....NOT

17. GoBears posted on 23 Nov 2012, 06:35

Too bad they put such a horrid camera in the Maxx. That's the deal breaker for me, not the sealed battery. Not too mention the encrypted boot loader.

21. redmd posted on 23 Nov 2012, 08:15

I say it again. Moto camera sucks big time. why don't they order those modules from Sony?

24. KingKurogiii posted on 23 Nov 2012, 14:18 1

i can atest to this. the battery life is ridic, i couldn't run it down in a day if i wanted to. it came in real handy last night Black Friday shopping. i stood in line at Best Buy with my friend for 5 hours and in that time i played games, streamed music, used the hotspot the whole time for my friend's Lumia 710 and we watched an episode of The Walking Dead and that along with the entire day before that only brought it down to 74% by the time i got to my friend's house at like 4AM it was down to 51%. i also got a 35mbps download speed result yesterday. ;]

26. InspectorGadget80 posted on 23 Nov 2012, 15:42

still kinda sucks its only on verizon while Motorola won't put that nice phone on any other carrier
