0.01 for new customers...229.99 for upgrades? Kind of a sad screw over on existing customers. Oh well.

8. roldefol posted on 21 Nov 2011, 07:58

But at least I don't feel like a sucker for paying in-store price for my upgrade. Verizon must be in on this deal as it hooks those valuable new customers into $720 worth of data.

4. snowgator posted on 21 Nov 2011, 05:39 1

Man, it does hurt it is for new customers only, but what a freaking great deal. The RAZR is a great phone.

I'm so annoyed by this Galaxy Nexus situation.

7. kshell1 posted on 21 Nov 2011, 06:48

they have the majority of sprint and verizon phones on a major sale.

Although its circumventing the rules somewhat, for those of you who are in an upgrade cycle and want to bite the bullet here is how you can get on board with this deal. First option is to call whatever carrier you have and ask them if they will price match Amazon's price. If you are a very good and persuasive negotiator you may actually end up getting what you want. But in the event for most of us that we don't here is what to do next.

Again call up your respective carrier and tell them that you are going to switch to a new carrier and ask them what the early termination fee is going to be. For those who are eligible for an upgrade it should be anywhere from roughly 50-100. There really isn't any way of getting around that fee. Now you actually go to another major carrier and have them port in your number, get a new phone, blah blah, etc... All of the major ones usually have a turnaround time of a few hours to 24 hours in which the number physically gets ported. Once your new equipment works, go back to your original carrier via Amazon and sign up for the deal you wanted and re-port your number back into the carrier. Once that is done, return the equipment to the other carrier and cancel your contract. There should be a grace period of 3 days minimum that you can do this fee free.

I asked Verizon why I couldn't pay the ETF and keep my number and resign at a new rate, and they stated that once I pay the ETF I would be "surrendering the rights to my number." Realistically no carrier wants this to happen. So here is your workaround that is legal.

11. networkdood posted on 21 Nov 2011, 08:18

Yeah, you cancel and you cannot port - simple as that....1c RAZR = bye bye AT&T

14. networkdood posted on 21 Nov 2011, 10:25

I doubt AT&T will offer a comparable phone for 1c...I did lose my unlimited plan, but I average 4GB a month....

Why not just get a life instead? You know, an income that allows you to make purchases, and more important things to do than to ship phones around and speak to customer service.

Then again...you had the time to type out all that crap.

27. KingKurogiii posted on 21 Nov 2011, 21:06 4 1

how about YOU get a life instead of coming onto phone blogs and telling people that are using the discussion boards for exactly what they're for to get a life? his post is appropriate if not long but yours is just hateful bulls**t. the King does not like you PotDragon.

That is a link to my facebook page because I don't think we could practically meet in real life. But I am sorry I do need to get a life. But let me inform you what my "life" is at the moment. I am a 7 year veteran of the Air Force, I did several combat deployments, currently I am attending school full time and im in ROTC. And I work 2 jobs, one as a quality assurance tester for a video game/digital life company, and another part timer at Best Buy Mobile. I volunteer my free time with an organization called Team Rubicon.

But otherwise I sit on my a$$ all day and try and write helpful and informative posts for some people who maybe don't have the income to shell out 300 dollars for a phone that retail costs just over twice that amount supposedly at a "subsidized" price. But hey no big deal man.

Methinks Santa Claus is coming to town a wee bit early this early :-)

12. jkayner posted on 21 Nov 2011, 09:32 1

so say my 2 year contract is up, so i have no termination fee. Can i go to one of those cheap prepaid (non verizon) carriers, say virgin mobile (already have a cheap flip phone from them), port my number and then 1 day later sign back up at verizon? Or is there some sort of time period where i can;t go back and get the discount?

15. networkdood posted on 21 Nov 2011, 10:26

good question - you may have to wait 30 or 59 days...

16. Tux4g63 posted on 21 Nov 2011, 11:49

you don't want to go with a prepaid carrier because their porting departments are usually lousy. The established nationwide big ones can most of the time do it within a matter of hours. And since time is of the essence I would rather go with a carrier that can port quicker so I can get this deal on. They may charge a restocking fee though, but check around on that, a lot of times you can get it waived. Or if you go to Best Buy Mobile to swap carriers they don't charge restocking.

13. networkdood posted on 21 Nov 2011, 10:18

Cool, I got it for 1c - no taxes, 25.00 act fee - no ship fee - 4GB 30.00 - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

17. vishu9 posted on 21 Nov 2011, 12:08 1

For new customers good deal, but old customers that have unlimited data NOT

20. Markee posted on 21 Nov 2011, 14:29

There will be a ton of jacka$$ folks doing the cancel switchback then hand palm when they choose their usage with their new 1 penny phone.

21. networkdood posted on 21 Nov 2011, 15:30

I am cool with 4GB for 30.00 - I use about that on average each month. But, that was on a 3G phone, so I better watch it, huh?

22. KingKurogiii posted on 21 Nov 2011, 15:33 1

well when you get ICS you can just set your 4GB allowance.

23. xupru posted on 21 Nov 2011, 15:54

This deal is actually causing a big issue for me, I've posted a long synopsis in the discussion area if anyone is willing to give some advice.

If I just finished my 2-yr contract with VZW, would I qualify as a "new member"? Or would this still be considered an upgrade???

28. Owlet posted on 21 Nov 2011, 23:54

No, you wouldn't qualify for this offer. You are existing customer, not new.
