Motorola DROID 4 cut to $199.99 before launch according to the latest Verizon MAP

0. phoneArena posted on 26 Jan 2012, 20:59

Verizon's latest MAP list has been obtained by Droid-Life and the most useful piece of information is that it looks like the Motorola DROID 4 will be priced at $199.99 with a 2-year pact; of course, the MAP list does not show official prices, but has been a good source of information in the past...

Why don't VZW and Moto just launch the f*cking handset?! At the rate they are going with virtual launches, the D4 will be down to BOGO pricing when it actually launches....

They have to not overlap another phones release, especially the Droid lineup. D4 going for $199 seems about right, the last time the OG droid was at $249 was when it was the D2 R2D2. If this price is correct that would be a nice outgoing gift as this will probably be the end of the OG Droid. Might show up as the Razr X or something to differentiate it as having a Razr with a physical keyboard and Razr without one. My money is on the two types of Razr's just like the Galaxy line. Stream lined and made out of the best designed and powered phones in Moto's line up.

The price points on all Verizon mega-phones is too high. As a custom of theirs due an upgrade, I just can't take the plunge on these $299+ units. This 'pricing exclusivity' needs to stop. Does anybody remember when no matter how new the phone was, it was still a penny? Your 2 year contract guarantees a minimum of $2K back from each unit sold, so stop making us feel like a horse's *ss for plucking down $300 for a unit, when you turn around in 30 days and drop it a $100, then another 30days and it's practically free. You're scaring your market away. You want Apple like success, put a price point on your units and NEVER change it. That's why Iphone's sell so well. Not just because of the technology but because of the $200 investment. Anyone on the site will agree that the $200 Iphone 4S will still be $200 a year from now.

Know your facts, the reason why VZW phones tend to cost so much is to offset the premium Apple charges the carrier to stock their iPhone. It's great the sell a boatload of iPhones to get customers but VZW isn't making much on each of those devices sold at all. They probably make more selling any other manufacturers phones even the cheaper ones. AT&T does it too, any Network that carries the iPhone has to agree to Apples terms because the iPhone is the hottest device on the planet, once it dies down then Apple won't be able to command the Networks like they are doing right now.

This is a premium handset price point on any other carrier, but a price drop on Verizon. Geez. But, this will be arguably the best physical keyboard device on the market this year. It is most likely worth every penny. I am always glad to see a lowered price for any handset. But this LTE monster is going to be worth it.
