Like the looks of the phone a lot. But why 1.6?? Makes no sense. On a side note. This is not iPhone news so why post it phonearena *chimes the bell for vzw fanman comments*

To answer your question(why 1.6) since android is open source and anyone can pu any ui over it updates for it are spread out unevenly among handsets. Usually the fist to get it are the handsets that run barebones android(droid, mytouch, etc.) however populariity of the handset figures into this equation as well but the nitty gritty of it is that handsets that run a custom UI, such as htc androids running the sense UI, the samsung moment with it's unique samsung UI, or motorola handsets with motoblur, cannot just accept an upgrade to the OS because the custom UI needs to be updated as well. So one choice potential android buyers have(but prolly don't know) is should they buy an android phone they can update immediately, or one that has o wai for updates because the custom UI? Hope this helped and until then make mine marvel!

1.6? For some reason I thought it was coming out with 2. Back to not being excited about any of our android phones again.

1.6 Software is Google Nav capable. (1.5 is not) which is the main app people seem to care about between all the different versions. True 2.1 looks nicer, but Motoblur, sense...etc. All look better than stock android in my opinion anyway. The phone does not look as nice person as it does in these pictures. The silver looks painted on and cheap in person and reminds me of a sidekick in form factor. The Droid I had to say it feels and looks better in person.

It will only be for a month or two that the phone has 1.6. There are other reports out there that Motorola will be releasing a Motoblur compatible Android 2.0 or even 2.1 in the latter part of March or beginning of April.

1.6 is just a number to me, really affects application compatibility more than anything else. Form factor wise, this phone has a much better look to it than the Droid IMO. Got rid of that oversided dirctional pad for a sleaker optical mouse, plus removed the search button that I almost never use from bottom of screen. Keyboard looks better spaced without the trackpad in the way to clog it up. Plus the odd shelf is gone from bottom of phone. I'd take this over the Droid.

This seems like a native upgrade path for envTouch users that find themselves able to carry the higher monthly bill and want a smartphone.

one of my co-workers saw it at a kickoff meeting and he said that the little black square is a light sensor. not a virtual mouse. idk but really? no directional pad at all?
