Motorola ATRIX 2 getting a soak test; leaked screenshot shows ICS update

Despite what appeared to be discouraging words from Motorola about the Motorla ATRIX 2's chances of getting updated to Android 4.0, the handset is undergoing a soak test said to be a test for the Android 4.0 update...

Oh, well, huh. What was that a few days ago when this website claimed rather irresponsibly that a vague update on Motorola's site indicated that the Atrix 2 wouldn't be updated to ICS?
If the updates do come out to the models that you claimed were having their updates cancelled, Alan, I think you'll owe your readership an apology.

He addressed that in the very first paragraph... And Alan never said definitely that the Atrix 2 was going to go without ICS. In the previous article a couple days ago, he just said that based on a revised timeline of Motorola's ICS updates, it looked like the Atrix family *might* not get ICS, as it changed from a certain Q3 roll out to "further plans coming soon."
So he never said that the Atrix line wouldn't get ICS, he just said there could be a possibility of it not getting the update or the update could be delayed, which is a general interpretation of that change in the timeline. He doesn't owe anyone an apology really, all he basically said was, "Hey, the Atrix and Atrix 2 might not get ICS based on Motorola's new update schedule, or it could be delayed."

"Motorola delays or cancels Android 4.0 update for some devices"
"...we need to warn you that many people are not going to be happy."
"After that, the news gets a littlre (sic) grimmer."
"This sounds like the Android 4.0 update is quickly slipping away for these devices as well as for the Motorola PHOTON 4G and the Motorola Electrify."
"Okay, we get that the Motorola DROID X2 might not qualify and we can almost accept that the Motorola DROID 3 is stuck on Gingerbread. But the Motorola ATRIX 2 is less than a year old. And now that Motorola is focusing on Android 4.1 updates for its just introduced phones, does the manufacturer really have the heart to worry about Android 4.0 on its older models?"
This kind of language was deliberately provocative and speculative; the title made it sound like established fact that Motorola was cancelling those updates. As a matter of fact, there was zero indication that the updates were being cancelled by Motorola's page update.
Alan's article was irresponsible and he knows it, as shown by the comments on that story:
"In typical Motorola fashion, screw everybody else but our biggest customer, and even some of those are getting screwed." (lsutigers)
"Love my Razr....my last Motorola device." (Potdragon)
"Wow no ics for my photon then huh smh" (Techboi)
"Motorola are disgusting they release ics for the Atrix 2 in India but are just being d**kheads." (yoyo93)
"THANKS A**HOLES!" (antmiu2)
"Even after google bought Motorola Moto hasnt changed its habit
A leopard cannot change its spots
"Wooow Motorola just yesterday you were taking jibe at Apple for their pathetic imaps, and here you're unable to update phone like atrix 2 to icecream sandwich leave alone jellybean........... At least Apple is updating it's three years old phone to ios 6............ So motorola please improve your service, work for satisfaction of customers, and I'm sure you will also be having cult following which Apple and samsung is having..............." (jibraihimi)
"Wow what a kick in the teeth, my poor Photon 4g. I was in the last beta and when the 1st update came out , it had bugs and issues. Took Motorola a whole month to gives us (beta testers) a update for the fix. My Photon has stood the huge test for build quality but this is just bad, now im hoping for Motorola to just stick their handsets on Verizon so other carriers can offer only phones that will get updated." (TheBankRobber)
"damm no moto 4 me" (zekes)
"... i really hope Motorola doesnt cop out on that 4.0, because i was hoping for that these past months in hopes of not being left in the dust till my next upgrade. that $100 is s**t to me. Motorola has kept me happy... until now" (BomberXL)
Out of everyone commenting, I was the only one to suggest that "further plans coming soon" meant anything other than "HAHA WE'RE NOT UPDATING YOUR PHONES AFTER ALL f**k YOU BITCHES!"

Yes, I agree that Alan should have been a bit less pessimistic towards Motorola and their vague change in a timeline. But, that doesn't change the fact that the overall statement was exactly what the title entails, "Motorola delays or cancels Android 4.0 update for some devices."
Everyone who was commenting should be a little bit more careful to just go ahead and assume Motorola forgot about them. Whether that is indicative to a bad author or just common human ignorance, no one can tell.
Also, the last statement in that article,
"And now that Motorola is focusing on Android 4.1 updates for its just introduced phones, does the manufacturer really have the heart to worry about Android 4.0 on its older models?"
That is really a good question. If Motorola is so dead-set on updating its latest devices, it would be a common concept that they would either cancel or push back their old devices further down the priority list. But Alan did seem to favor the former of those possibilities.

The title was what I had the biggest problem with. Alan had no concrete evidence to support it at all, and I suspect half the people crying for Motorola's head didn't even read the actual article or go to the source.
Unfortunately, there is a subset of people on this site who are just as ready to s**t on Motorola as they are to do the same to Apple. It's annoying, especially when Motorola is doing its level best to release the best built phones in the business.

I think it's a proper title for that article. Before, it was certain that the Atrix line would get ICS in Q3, but then they changed it to, "further plans coming soon." That is more or less solid evidence of a delay or cancel; to go from a confirmed time-frame to that vague mentioning.
But yeah, it is a bit sad that people are so ignorant as to jump to conclusions about a certain company and kick them whenever there is an opening, even when there is no actual confirmed data.

Right, except, as seen by this soak test, alternate explanations are in place, such as "these updates are imminent and we may soon have to post news about Jelly Bean for them."
After all, Q3 is close to over, which is when the Atrix original was supposed to get ICS. Motorola has never actually missed a hard deadline for an update. They'll often come in under the wire, but they don't miss.

Yes, there are multiple interpretations of that change of context. But, when you go from a solid time-frame to a vague mention, it usually is pessimistic; and the option of Motorola actually meaning that they are planning on updating the Atrix to Jelly Bean is almost impossible in a lot of people's eyes, seeing as though they are moderately old devices (the Atrix 2 being less so). But it still is a possibility that a lot of people overlook.

It sounds like we pretty much agree on the important points at least. :) this is why I enjoy talking to you, Berserker. You show a desire for reasonable discussions.

Yeah, I always try to have a rational discussion with people, even if they show absolutely no respect or convenient knowledge and just constantly try to prove me wrong with no relevant facts to back up their arguments. You fit none of those conditions by the way, you are one of the handful of level-headed people on here.

woooot great news.. i hope Atrix 4G gets it too!
3. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4166; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
Well this is nice for Atrix owners. That was a bit of a scare a few days ago
6. Sniggly (Posts: 7230; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
And frankly, to anyone calling for Motorola's heads based on circumstantial evidence that gave no indication they weren't going to update the phones they had already said they were...
Do some goddamn critical thinking next time for at LEAST twenty seconds before you grab the pitchforks and torches.

I'm from Romania, but I own also an ATRIX 4g which didn't get the upgrade.
