Moto Z2 Play appears on Geekbench showing improvement in user experience
The Moto Z2 Play has yet to be unveiled, but already the sequel to the mid-range Moto Z Play is already disappointing those who expected another model with a tremendously long-lasting battery life. The combination of the power sipping Snapdragon 625 chipset, along with the 3510mAh battery, allowed the 2016 Moto Z Play to deliver the longest battery life of any Motorola handset ever made. But Lenovo said last week that this year's version of the phone will have 3000mAh of  battery power inside. The theory here is that Motorola/Lenovo wanted to make the Moto Z2 Play a little thinner compared to last year's version, resulting in a less imposing cell running the phone.

Just the other day, the Moto Z2 Play was benchmarked on Geekbench which revealed that the device will be powered by the Snapdragon 626 SoC. The latter carries an octa-core CPU that ran at a clock speed of 2.21GHz during the test. This chip should be just as miserly as the Snapdragon 625 when it comes to power consumption. 4GB of RAM is said to be inside, up from the 3GB of RAM used on the original model. That should make for an improved multi-tasking experience. Android 7.1.1 will be pre-installed.

To be sure, the changes coming to the Moto Z2 Play won't turn the phone into a energy eating glutton, requiring owners to be constantly on the search for an outlet. The sequel will still offer users the opportunity to leave for work in the morning with a full charge, and return home with enough battery life to keep the model running until bedtime. Just before you hit the sack, you can charge up the Moto Z2 Play.

The single-core Geekbench score achieved by the Moto Z2 Play was 891. The multi-core test tallied 4538. To put that in perspective, the Moto Z Play had a 2600 multi-core score on the benchmark site. While battery life will suffer some with the sequel, it seems that overall, user experience will be greatly improved.
