More pink slips on the horizon at RIM?

Sources inside RIM tell All Things D that another major restructuring is going to take place at RIM with at least 2,000 employees getting laid off, the new layoffs will leave RIM with a headcount of 14,500 workers with the layoffs possibly being announced on June 1st...

RIM could have implemented the plan that Balsillie put forward for converting the company to a services model based on BBM and dumping the handset business. That would be showing results by now, instead of rumored headcount reductions, RIM would be posting their first positive financial results in a while.

Oh well. Won't be too long before the market will force RIM to unload the handset business. I just hope BBM is still viable as a business model at that point.

Oh they'll be around for sure. Just with 1000 employees filling office space.

They might be around in five years...ten I don't think so. The best bet for the stockholders of RIM is a sell of it to MS, Google, or Apple. All three of them should fight over their patents for their BBM software right now. In 10 years though no one will care enough for it.
