Before you purchase the Samsung Rogue U960 next week, you need to read this about the new Data Plans...

How is this any different from how they have been doing it? I mean, they (being VZW) have had a required data plan for Blackberries for as long as I can remember. This is simply breaking things down into tiers. Want a phone that can do everything? Get a blackberry or a winmo phone and pay $30 Want a phone that can do some of those things? Get an advanced media device and pay $10 Want a phone that just makes calls and such? Get a standard flip or candybar style phone. I am nothing more then a standard consumer, but this makes sense to me. I think people are just really looking a little too outside the box on this one.

I don't understand all of the complaints. It is the right of any business to decide what to charge for their good or service. Whatever happened to letting the market decide what price can be beared by the consumer? IF this is an unreasonable demand by Verizon, then the consumers will NOT buy the phones that require that particular data plan and eventually Verizon will get the point that this is not a good idea. Until then, maybe all you complainers are actually the minority and need to find an alternative. Simple economics.

Economics is not simple when most people have been trained to think that cell phones are free and that it costs nothing to maintain a cellular network.

you know what i love this thing 25 MB for ten bucks for a dumphone thats really good so you could view a ton of webpages and if you go over its 1 buck for two MB unless if you got the 75 MB its 30 cents for each MB so i like this its really cheap so i might get the samsung rogue unless if its 20 or 10 bucks for a smatphone and i would get those MB's then i would get a smartphone instead but im still leaning torwards the samsung rogue

azroller45, those new data plans make no sense when up to that point $15 was unlimited

It is akin to inflation... gradually, they *impose* little fees/upgrades on to their customers. People then think, "oh, it's only $9.99/month. No biggie." But after about 3 phone changes, you're cell phone bill has gradually doubled. If I recall, my 1st cell phone bill was probably ~$40. Basic. I moved to Verizon, and it became like $50-something. Right now, it's like $62. If I get the phone I want (Rogue), it'll be $10 more, for $70-something. And on and on. As said above, if you want a phone with: good call quality, looks nice, a good camera, and texting ability--and nothing else, why do you have to have a $10 fee imposed, if you don't intend to use it (internet, etc.)? Now, if I get the phone and decide, "Hey I want to access other media" and then go for the upgrade, that's great. But to make me have to get it, stick me with an additional $10/month, when I have no intention of using that $10 worth of upgrade, sucks.
