I hope Amazon can take back the low price market with the Kindle Fire 2

It's impossible to beat N7, but more competition is always nice.
I'm curious what OS will Amazon use, I guess it's forked ICS.

Well it is possible depending on how much you rely on Amazon services . I HOPE its a skinned version of ICS ( I don't know why they'd use gingerbread AGAIN)

i dont really know why amazon will make tablets with google's android but wont offer android goodies and google services...
i think amazon should start making its own OS..since it got a pretty decent ecosystem...coz making another kindle but still underpowered by the competition is a major lost.. it will definitely go to nexus 7 as the new king of 7" tablets... latest of the latest software and hardware...
a rip off android but no android sounds really pathetic to me.. i mean your like skinning somebody..its losing and your getting rid of its identity!
i've read that amazon is now even teaming up with nokia to bring nokia maps on kindle instead of google maps..
so i think amazon should make its own OS or to make shortcut, buy a software and hardware company.. i think amazon's pocket is deep!

Google has to pay hundreds million bucks a year to keep Android as far as I know so I think it's not profitable for Amazon to do so.
Of course you can have your own OS on the cheap but then that OS will be very bad that no1 wants to use.

but its not really the point... if they have the OS they wont be compared to the nexus or any other android devices coz they will look so cheap.. being an android but not an android...
while if they have their own OS, they could do anything they want.. they have their own ecosystem which is pretty decent...
they could just do what RIM did.. the BB5,6,7 are all java but they announce BB10 and PlayBook its now QNX which is a unix like OS..but the look and feel is still BlackBerry...
so if amazon will do the same thing... i think it will be possible for them to compete fairly! coz if amazon just release the new kindle fire with skinned GB, people might not want it coz android is on its 10th installment now..but they dont know that that android on kindle isnt pure android.. it might have a bad impact to consumers if they use old OS of android..while if they have their own OS, it might be plausible!
because market is so hungry of having the latest of the latest..if amazon will use old one, it wont be a success! so its better to have their own OS that skinning android... LiMo is free right? why dont they just partner with them and im sure amazon has a deep pocket to support them! get those ex nokian who work with the meego/maemo!

They may still use GB b-c it's very light and allows Amazon to keep the cost down. And Amazon has experience with GB while ICS is much more complicated.

thats the point that they need to have their own OS... if they keep using old version of android, people might not buy it... since the nexus 7's use is i think to replace kindle which is an eBook

they DONT need their own OS. Android is free to use, so Amazon has every right to use it. whatever version they choose. so what if they use GB? no one will really know by just looking at it. the Kindle is skinned so heavily u cannot even tell it has android running underneath. amazon is using the Android OS and they skinned so heavily it looks like their own OS. Amazon's skin is something very fresh and different from what's out there. they can use GB and it wont matter cos Kindles dont have the PLAY Store on them. the UI on the Kindle is essentially Amazon's own OS. so look at it this way: Android is based on Linux, Amazon's Kindle "OS" is based on Android. and there is NOTHING wrong with tt

i agree . amazon has every right to use whatever version of Android they want . and like u-suck-more said , it doesnt matter if its Gingerbread . its so heavily skinned you cant even tell

yeah... you both got the point... it doesnt matter whatever version of android they'll use...
but just think... an android with no android goodies and google full service?
since amazon as its ecosystem which is pretty decent...most apps are available to amazon app store too... i still think its ok to have their own OS than rely on android...
coz if they declare that its android ten it runs on 2.3 people might ask "why is it still on 2.3?" consumers knows whats the latest but dont really care about what they bought.. they even think that samsung and apple is the same..
its just my opinion... and you got yours!

like i said, Amazon's ''OS'' is based on Android, so they can remove Google services. besides, the replaced the PLAY Store with their own app store

yeah..but they just need to be clever not to declare its running 2.3 coz it might ruin the sales... people nowadays do research for the latest of the latest.. and in term to android, im pretty sure they know that nexus 7 is the latest of the latest android... they do wikipedia to do research... :P

Amazon are playing with fire as its quite possible someone could buy this kindle while under confusion and thinking its an ipad, its rectangular and black! The tablet market is hotting up and android is starting to see crucial big hitters arriving

on 7" that is... win8 tablet will arrive on october with microsoft's very own Surface RT and Pro leading the invasion! iPad's sale will be threaten and android at 10" will also be threaten... Playbook will have a hard time coming back to market...
but if amazon will bring some fresh and different wit the new kindle, it might be really good! i just wish that they could have their own OS rather than skinning android and dont offer android goodies and google services.. it is even said that amazon is teaming up with nokia to bring nokia maps to amazon kindle!
just imagine nokia maps on an android device.. i think microsoft wont be so happy bout that!
i mean they dont like google service but still using google's own product..
they should start making its own OS and since they got a pretty decent ecosystem, just put it their!

amazon is just basing their ''OS'' on android.. like how android is based on linux. imo, i think amazon's skinned version of android is something very fresh and different.
so what if amazon doesnt like google? it doesnt mean they cant use google's products. it is business. it is like how Apple hates Android but they still rely on Android OEMs like Samsung and LG for their parts.
i think the kindle is fine the way it is, based on Android. and there is nothing wrong with that. plus, if amazon were to create their own OS, they would have to use more money, which i dont think they want to cos the Kindle is suppose to be an affordable tablet/eBook
