More claims about Google's Motorola X phone: huge battery, Sony camera sensor and Kevlar

0. phoneArena posted on 01 Feb 2013, 02:56

The phone is allegedly planned to have MAXX-like battery, the obligatory quad-core processor, screen size in the 4.8" area, and, thankfully, a microSD card slot, although storage is rumored to go all the way to a 128 GB version...

I personally think it's a moto xoom successor, just sayin lol

2. _Bone_ posted on 01 Feb 2013, 03:01 12 2

Still hoping it being a Nexus, from the price point and pure Android skin perspective. Good job Motorola, it can' get out soon enough!

8. anywherehome posted on 01 Feb 2013, 03:15 4 5

exactly....no Nexus, no deal for me

44. gwuhua1984 posted on 01 Feb 2013, 12:34 4 2

Personally, it won't matter if it's Nexus or not. The main thing is that it came from Google.

59. RomeoJDR posted on 02 Feb 2013, 09:51 2

It matters. After Google acquired Moto they decided not to update the Photon and Atrix to ICS despite being less than a year old. Google's chief engineer acknowledged some people getting a "raw deal," and at least was honest about why although being a lame reason. He stated they didn't have the resources available to work on updates to those models and focus on future models. How Google lacks resources with their endless bank is beyond my comprehension. So, the only way you can count on making it through you contract with an up to date phone is for it to be labeled Nexus.

66. anywherehome posted on 04 Feb 2013, 00:29

of course I mean pure android with immediate updates at least 2 years ;)

No problem, Daniel!

As I get more details from my source, I'll keep everyone posted. I'm hoping that this phone ends up being everything it's cracked up to be.

Kudos to you for the heads up information. You have PEAKED my interest on this phone!

42. Dr.Phil posted on 01 Feb 2013, 11:56

Do you know if it's going to be a Verizon exclusive or will it be available on other carriers as well?

I do wonder what processor they are going to go with. It would be a little early for the Snapdragon 800 (if the Qualcomm roadmap is true). They have the option of pairing up with Samsung, but so far only Chinese manufacturers have used the Exynos chipset.

56. Berzerk000 posted on 02 Feb 2013, 03:11

Wasn't the S800 supposed to be available in Q2 though? That means it should be available in mass production for the Razr X in June/July. Or was it the S600 that would be available in Q2?

Either way, I wouldn't mind having the 600, or even the S4 Pro, but being the first device to have one of the top chips of the year would give them a better fighting chance against Samsung.

I'm almost 100% positive they will go with Qualcomm though. Maybe Nvidia, but I doubt it.

63. LAmDroid posted on 02 Feb 2013, 19:51

i really hope not. I really despise the whole Motorola/Verizon exclusivity relationship. It puts too much power in Vzw's hands, and allows them to neglect devices. If they were available across all carriers, then all carriers are pressured to update their devices.

I dont want a Verizon experience.
I want a Google/Motorola experience.
Im on verizon's network, but I want my device to able to openly operate on worldwide GSM/LTE networks. Will Playstore availability suggest this possibility?

7. Nathan_ingx posted on 01 Feb 2013, 03:10 11

"the phone is apparently outfitted with a much better camera than the crappy units Motorola currently uses..." that is true but is abit harsh, lol...
Motorola certainly took note about their camera's vulnerability, that's certainly a good thing.
Motorola just needed that... The design, battery and everything else is great...and with a Sony (probably Exmore) sensor, it should be a killer deal.

24. jroc74 posted on 01 Feb 2013, 06:25 2

lol....hey...it is what it is. I'm sure Moto knows it too.....especially if this is true.

Rumors sound good so far. All I know is any phone that has a sealed battery has be be in the Maxx bettery size for me. I dont know about 128GB of storage. I have seen phones with lesser specs across the board be priced $299 on contract. We will soon see tho. Would be nice..

If thats true......would they have models with less storage? If so....16GB or higher for me. I would try to get 128 model if that does happen.

9. JusMePnut posted on 01 Feb 2013, 03:16 2

Too good to be true, but let hope it is.....

11. Sniggly posted on 01 Feb 2013, 03:22 7

My source is usually pretty accurate. Noted that some of what he told me is speculation and rumors, and the model he's using is definitely not complete (he mentioned the screen quality not being up to par with the current Motorola models, indicating they just threw a screen on the device so he could see what he's doing) but most of it sounds at least doable.

Also, imagine what a category buster the phone will be if it's really shipped with 128 gigs of internal memory.

10. richardyarrell2011 (banned) posted on 01 Feb 2013, 03:18 6 2

So let's see an early Htc M7 an May Galaxy S4 then this set for July Motorola X phone. Looks like a real big summer 2013. For me i will be passing on the Htc M7, passing on the Galaxy S4, all jellybean devices rather it be android 4.2 or 4.2.1 don't want anymore jellybean devices. I want android 5.0 Key Lime Pie straight out the box so I definitely will purchase the Galaxy Note 3 October 2013 without question. But this Motorola X phone might just be the mid year purchase i need who knows.

12. sonisoe posted on 01 Feb 2013, 03:39 2 6

17. lovefist posted on 01 Feb 2013, 04:32 3

I just hope its released worldwide and with a simpler name. Imagine the phone being named: motorola droid razr maxx full hd X phone.

18. speckledapple posted on 01 Feb 2013, 04:37 1

I think its important to realize that if Moto and obviously Google is attempting to address two issues that really hurt how well these devices can operate. I hope this is a start of companies putting more emphasis on the software and optimization of the hardware rather than trying to stick in a new piece of tech year after year in hopes of grabbing customers. Improve the experience.

19. MistB posted on 01 Feb 2013, 04:40 1

Sniggly, any idea on that edge to edge display that was touted, is it a true edge to edge display with little to no bezel, I'm also curious as to what processor is being used.

20. Sniggly posted on 01 Feb 2013, 04:47 3

Forgot to ask him about the edge to edge display. I don't think he'll necessarily know what processor is being used, but I'll ask next time. All I and he know is that it's a quad core.

21. o0Exia0o posted on 01 Feb 2013, 05:52 1

I guess that I just dont understand people these days. With all of these phone manufactuers in a race with each other to see who can make the biggest phone-tablet that can make calls, I just dont understand why some one would want to have a phone the size of a tablet. You cant fit it in to your pocket after it gets so big. I thank that a phone with a HD (720p-1080p) screen in the size of about 4.5 inches would be just about perfect. I guess that that is just my opinion though.

46. MorePhonesThanNeeded posted on 01 Feb 2013, 14:14

Nonsense, I have a DNA and it's a full 5" and it fits in my pockets easily without a hitch. My girlfriend has the SGS3 and that is 4.8" and she has no problems using it, in fact I see lots of women with SGS3's and they couldn't more happier. My mom has the Galaxy Nexus 4.65" screen and that phone is rather large for it's screen size almost the same footprint as the SGS3. No one has a tablet at 5", that's just too damn small to even make sense.
5" is probably the best size for 1080p and viewing pleasure in a super smart phone any bigger and you'll be a Note Pad.
Side note, I can actually put a Galaxy Note 2 in my pocket. I just don't like the size of it next to my head when answering a call, but it is a cool piece of kit.

50. o0Exia0o posted on 01 Feb 2013, 16:47

I guess in your haste to criticize someone you did not see the last line of my comment that stated "I guess that that is just my opinion though". Please before commenting on someones comment please read the whole comment that was made. TY

55. Commentator posted on 01 Feb 2013, 22:37 2

I'm pretty sure he's aware that whatever you post on this website is your own opinion. What, so if he sees "I guess that that is just my opinion though" he's suddenly going to change his mind?

Also, in your haste to defend yourself, did you only read the first word "nonsense"? Because from what I can tell that's the only part of his comment that can be construed as critical. Everything else he writes documents his personal observations, and are hardly pointed criticisms of your opinion.

53. jroc74 posted on 01 Feb 2013, 19:36

I kinda agree with him tho that phones are getting too big. I tried a GS3...and that might be the absolute max size I could deal with. Its a tad bit longer and wider than my RAZR. My Maxx HD is almost the exact same size as my RAZR.

And Archos had a 5" tablet a few years ago. The Dell Streak....the 5" phone in 2010 that came before the Note.....some sites called it a phone, some a tablet.

22. emadshiny posted on 01 Feb 2013, 06:00 1

great features but the point is that Motorola is not and can't be successful outside US. here in middle east everyone prefers to buy Sammy, Nokia and Sony instead of Motorola even if it features best specs. i think this is true in other parts of the world as well. this is one main problem that google is going to face.

23. Sniggly posted on 01 Feb 2013, 06:02 1

While I'm certain that Motorola could leverage some market share gain worldwide if they put out the right devices and said devices work well, I would point out that Motorola only needs to sell enough devices to be profitable for Google.

The BIGGEST question un-answered!!!
BLUR OR STOCK ????

64. marklugtu1302 posted on 03 Feb 2013, 02:14

Wish that they would use the blur like in the JB of the RAZR MAXX HD with few twicks only

27. Edmund posted on 01 Feb 2013, 07:38 7

google using the same old methodolgy - just throw a bigger battery/processor and more ram at the problem. yawn..

40. Sniggly posted on 01 Feb 2013, 11:46 3

At what problem?

Are you saying that new phones shouldn't have better specs than old phones?

Love what I'm hearing about this phone! Could be my next phone.

-Stock Android...5.0?
-Quad Core
-Sony Camera
-3000+ battery
-Quality materials
-SD Card slot
-Big screen, but not too big

I guessing it will have HDMI, Gorilla Glass, and nano coating on inside like my Maxx.

NFC would be nice feature too!

51. Sniggly posted on 01 Feb 2013, 17:00

There is actually no indication so far that this phone will be a Verizon exclusive. I mean, I didn't ask my source, but all other information points to the phone having an unlocked version at least.

34. HTCOE posted on 01 Feb 2013, 09:31 2

39. dorianb posted on 01 Feb 2013, 11:32

The VZW rumors if true will immediately kill any chances of this phone being "Perfect, Great, Astounding" or any other adjectives above plain good. Even if stock I see bloatware, & it taking 6+ months after Moto/Google update the software for VZW to release it due to their "testing." This better have an unlocked version!!!

48. MorePhonesThanNeeded posted on 01 Feb 2013, 14:18

I don't see how it could be exclusive to Verizon and have all this input from Google. Google isn't with that lock down carrier business, they are all about getting their product into many hands as possible, so I think that might be mainly rumor. Besides I see Google taking control of Moto and making the same phones available across the board for carriers, reducing the R&D and strain on supply with too many variations of the same phone. This could be the phone to change all that.

41. JWS65 posted on 01 Feb 2013, 11:50

Screen resolution, type and what quad core processor in X phone are big questions for me. Moto was never ahead of others on screen and processor spec. They need to make it at least on par with M7, Xperia Z on screen, processor.
