More Windows Phone 8.1 screenshots leak, confirm on-screen buttons and separate volume controls

0. phoneArena 03 Feb 2014, 02:13 posted on

The Windows Phone 8.1 update is approaching, and with it Microsoft will pepper the somewhat bland interface with new options. We already had a notification center leaking out, now two more screenshots appear, showcasing more goodies are in store. First off, they confirm on-screen buttons will be possible with the WP 8.1 update, so that theoretically phones can be made more compact, moving the navigation keys on the display itself...

its not a 'hate dilemma' people still hate the fluffy rainbow called iOS 7. The fact is people learn to live with it. iOS 7 inspite of its gradient overload is a app rich robust OS.

WP8's design is painfully ugly at best but people will still accept it since it is giving them much awaited notification bar and new interesting features (albeit only playing catch-up to Android/iOS)

I like iOS 7... It gets so much hate for nothing. It looks and peforms better than iOS 6 imo - albeit battery life.

You need glasses buddy, WP is by far the most aesthetically pleasing OS, Android, iOS even BB10 have all adopted Flat UI. Even Steve Wozniack (Apple co founder) called WP beautiful than Android and iOS.

Android adding the three dot menu, Full lockscreen album art, Large in your face fonts iOS 7 and Android have adopted etc are all things WP has had for years , now Android and iOS are playing catch up.

WP is largely the inspiration for the new flat UI look of both Android and iOS.

WP8 in my opinion is by far the worse looking OS and the tile interface is what is holding back the platform. And it seems to me that Steve Wozniack is not all there.

Are you seriously trying to equate something like the notification center which is central to Android to full screen album art and a font change?

Its funny you hate Tiles yet Samsung has a new found found love of it, if you hate WP UI then you must also hate Android and iOS after they no longer use Skeuomorphism, they now use WP flat UI for example look at Samsung's Watch ON and S health apps they are basically WP clones.

Are you serious trying to equate something like an Notification center to WP flatness which is central to the OS.

If you use a WP you would know its mostly Android fanboys who has asked for it, we WP fans have not real need for that at least I don't Live Tiles gives me all my info at a glance, I hope I can turn notification center off.

The foundation of Android and iOS both from a visual and features point of view are largely mimicked WP experiences.

I'm not sure what Samsung has to do with this but try to explain what Samsung is doing versus Windows. Samsung is employing a flipboard-esque type interface. There's no solid color tiles; It's a magazine type layout. Also, I think their interface will work similarly to the way widgets work in Android where it gives you information at a glance and you can also interact with it without going into an app. Second, the only part of Windows I hate is the tile setup. In my opinion solid colored tiles on a background just don't look aesthetically pleasing. It looks tacky. Lastly, if you don't like what Samsung is doing you can download a launcher and change it. I always download a launcher when using a Samsung phone.

I don't care if Windows has a notification center or not and most Android users don't either. And I'm pretty sure Microsoft is not instituting a notification center because Android users say so.

What you don't seem to understand is that the look of the OS is not central to either Android or iOS. Android is known for it's customizability, the notification center and it's vast amounts of features. iOS could have kept the same look and their users would have had no problems with that. In fact, there's a lot of iOS users who which they would go back to the old look.

Firstly, adopting Flat UI doesn't mean you've to make it look ugly.

Secondly. 'now Android and iOS are playing catch up.' - Are you on something ?! Is this notification toggle their invention ?! Choosing from 28 colour palettes and 3 tile sizes isn't very 'advanced'.

It took Android 3 years to make those buttons customizable. I hope WP has Immersive Mode like feature, LG G2 like customizability, and Nexus 5 like transparency. That would be really useful.

The real pain owning a WP8 is that you cant install decent third party browsers like Firefox or Opera. IE is good if you want plain experience. Xpress browser, well... Theres no express about a slow OperaMini-wannabe browser.

plain? it is the web at your tips, how much 'layering' of a cool tab bar do you need?

Try UC Browser.

Maybe i am just getting old, but so far IE has worked flawlessly

What i love is all the hate from droid fans, i remember the growing pain of droids. Hell i couldnt remove an email account from the phone without having to master reset. Best part is, they still sell these things as 'brand new'.

Point being is that, for me as a user of a note 3, iphone 4 and now 3 windows phone, i enjoy the MS ecosystem and design much better than the other 3.
