Everyone will be updated by the end of the year!
3. ledbetterp3 (Posts: 467; Member since: 31 Aug 2011)
I hope so, but I doubt it, where did you read that?
16. protozeloz (Posts: 5387; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
Small sarcasm, :-P it would be amazing if they did
5. ayephoner (Posts: 837; Member since: 09 Jun 2009)
absolutely no chance. i'd be surprised if ICS update makes it to more than a handful of devices by years end (i assume thats what you mean)
i really hope they deliver something great!
17. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
by the end of the year? doubt anyone has it but XDA and Nexus. By the end of Q2 2012 I would hope the bulk have it.

I just can't think how google could amaze us with something more than the event where hc was launched(some amazing ideas showed up) so mthe only thing I could think up was that

ICS is rumored to have facial recognition technology built into the OS, so maybe they are doing something mind blowing with that? voice commands that read your lips and expressions for accuracy and correct punctuation! lol.
37. ayephoner (Posts: 837; Member since: 09 Jun 2009)
didnt i read something (was it here on PA?) that you can have facial recognition unlock? that sounds neat (but not sure i would use it)
40. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
yea, thats part of the rumored facial integration.
maybe u could raise you eyebrows to move a webpage.. cross your eyes for p2z? lol

The iphone certainly will get some of the top new features that will come in ics and it will come in the iphone 4ssss in 2014 and it will change everything again!
13. ayephoner (Posts: 837; Member since: 09 Jun 2009)
shouldnt you guys be happy and celebrating this article. why is this just ANOTHER venue for you to obsess over what apple has been doing?
15. ilia1986 (unregistered)
Because unfortnately Apple has about 5 times more influence on our culture and is about 10 times more popular.
It's not juat Apple vs Google. It's one huge corporation which chooses to severely limit it's products in terms of features in favor of it's future products and to strip away end user choice - while maintaining the current status quo in which the iPhone is still the hottest phone ever (and let's not talk about the iPad), the ultmate phone to be had and practically the best phone there is
Another huge corporation which licenses it's open-source OS to many other manufacturers who themslves get a lot of freedom of which devices to make and how to sell them - while at the same time giving the end users and developers alsmost infinite freedom as to what they can do with it. It's devices are much more future proofed, because with proper modding and tweaking even old devices can run new versions of the operating system flawlessly. Yet people who own them - despite outnumbering the amoung of people who own iPhones - are still regarded as "un-cool" geeks and nerds.
That is the situation. That is the current status quo. Apple is cool. Everything else is not. The dumbest kid in class is the better looking one and the most popular, while the outcasted nerd, who also starts to look very good as well - is the smartest one.
Go outside. Ask 100 random people whether they want an iPhone or an Android. You will see that most people would want the former. Not beause it's better. But because it's more popular - and they might not even know what an Android is ("is that like an iPhone?").
Sad sad world. Sad but true.
And yet people don't understand why even Android fans mull so much about what Apple does and what it doesn't.
18. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
its ok. kids like the high school cool guy are only cool in school.. like most of them, they never grow out of that school phase and everyone else eventually passes them by. The hot chicks end up with the nerds in the end while that balding cool guy that never changed ends up by himself pumping gas for the nerds ferrari.
everyone started with apple, many are leaving it as it doesnt change. its still popular now, but its growth is shrinking.
20. ayephoner (Posts: 837; Member since: 09 Jun 2009)
you have no idea what you are talking about. stop drinking the kool aid. android's market share is larger than apples and that gap is growing everyday. it will be offset by 4s sales, but will continue to grow in the long run.
and they focus on what they feel is important (battery life, ease of use). if you dont like it, dont buy it. if ignorant people love it, dont be bothered by it. but it is certainly not the vast majority that you make it out to be.
22. ilia1986 (unregistered)
I have a very good idea of what I'm talking about.
Apple, the iPhone and the ipad are culture symbols. This affects the masses. Turn on your TV. See an ad for some clothing chain or something. What do you think is more likely to follow - the ad announcing it has an app for the iPhone? or the ad announcing that it has an app for Android?
As I said - go outside, see what's on Average Joe's mind.
iPhone is more popular than all the other handsets on the market combines. For Apple it's not so much about market share as it is about popularity. And this is a battle Apple has won a long time ago.
remixfa - I was hoping you were right. But then I read about the iPhone 4S being the best iPhone launch ever, with 1 million people pre-ordering it before it was even released. Looks like the dumb good-looking popular kid is still getting all the girls.
24. Sniggly (Posts: 7281; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
What even the iFanboys will acknowledge for this launch is that the main reason it's breaking records is because the iPhone is now being sold on three of four carriers at three to four different price points. This is unprecedented for an iPhone launch. In fact, Apple has basically more than doubled the amount of people it can sell to at the same time.
27. ilia1986 (unregistered)
Hm.. well this does make sense. Smart thing for Apple - to increase availability at the launch of such an underwhelming product.
Smart thing indeed.

Ilia, another thing to support your comment: headphones. Nearly every single headphone manufacturer has at least a few sets of headphones with either "Made for iPod" or "Made for iPhone" on the box. Klipsch, V-moda, and Beats are the only 3 that I can think of that make headphones for Android devices, and Beats only because of the HTC buyout. Android might be the market-share king, the iPhone is still "cool" kid.
23. Sniggly (Posts: 7281; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
While Android's market share is larger and growing, iOS still gets way more exposure in the media and people still do come in asking for iPhones (or at least inquiring about them) more often than Android phones.
I had a chick come in two days ago. She had an HTC Aria, which she said she totally loved, but was still considering an iPhone because "all of her friends were telling her to get one so they could use Facetime." She may still go with Android eventually, BUT if she were talking to someone who didn't know how to show her how awesome Android still was, she might just get an iPhone because it's what "everyone" has.
We are starting to see a paradigm shift where people have had Android phones, absolutely love them, and want to keep going with Android for their next phone, but Apple's brand identity is strong, and still the "coolest" phone out there.
By the way, my new workplace makes literally zero money off the iPhone itself. In order to make money we have to sell extras with it. Otherwise it's like we sold no phone at all. Another example of Apple making someone else do all the work and then taking all the money for it.
28. ayephoner (Posts: 837; Member since: 09 Jun 2009)
you guys are letting the image you have skew your vision of reality. i know tons of people that arent really in the know and still love android. there are plenty of ignorant people that are won over by 4G or android commercials. and most people that are serious about having an app presence develop for android AND iOS.
and on the flip side, there are plenty of people that are absolutely in the know and love apple and iOS. it is very functional and does plenty of things very well (and better than android).
there is no single paradigm for either brand's consumer. there is no greater generalization that describes the mobile market. it is complex. there is no right answer, no wrong answer. there isnt a good company vs an evil company. the one sided posts (in either direction) are so, so tired.
29. Sniggly (Posts: 7281; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Except you've been pretty one sided yourself.
Yes, I already mentioned that there is a paradigm shift where people are starting to love Android not just because it's "like the iPhone, but not the iPhone" or "enough like the iPhone that I don't feel bad for not getting the iPhone."
But with 310 million people in the U.S., there are still plenty of folks who have no clue about either OS and will follow what they hear about the most.
It's why you'll buy Lucky Charms before Moons and Stars, why a Mercedes is more desirable than a Lincoln. There are people who will hear about iPhones all day long and will consider anything like Android to be nothing more than a cheap knockoff (shut up, Taco).
I agree that it's not all one way or another, and there are a lot of people who meet all the categories we've discussed, but Android is still fighting an uphill battle for brand recognition.
34. ayephoner (Posts: 837; Member since: 09 Jun 2009)
if i sound one sided, its just due to the overwhelming amount of fandroid ignorance on this site (sniggs, your not even close to the worst and are very informed).
truth is, i love android. i own a droid X and my next device will most likely be the nexus prime. but, i dont delude myself into thinking that apple is evil or intentionally denying specs to their customers or that people that buy their products are sheep.
in reality, apple is just like every other smartphone manufacturer in most of their practices. they obviously are fans of a closed system with sleeker software (less demanding) and having control over most everything. that offers some huge plusses to their customers and offers diversity to the market, which everyone should be in favor of.
31. ilia1986 (unregistered)
All I know is that right here in Israel - about every tenth phone is an iPhone 4. And there are a lot of commercials about various industry chains having an iPhone app. Not an android app. An iPhone app. Hence at least here - the iPhone is 40 times more popular and hyped than Android.
Sure this doesn't say anything, but look for example at the swatch website. A serious company indeed. It has a link for an iPhone app. Not for an Android one.
35. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 4641; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
The iPhone has an advantage over Android & that is word of mouth. Apple iPhone users tend to brag more about their phones than Android users. For instance last month multiple employees where I work felt the needed to announce they got an iPhone 4. So they got lots of interest & I am sure other people will go & get the iPhone. When I got the HTC Evo 3D I never felt the need to do that. I only showed the phone to people who asked me. So Apple has that stigma that it's the "cool" phone from a those jazzy commercials & then you have random people bragging to people that are not savvy enough to know that there is better out there, Apple just got some new sales. Yes some Android commercials work, like the Droid line of commercials, but they are not nearly as affective as Apple commercials. You know Apple doesn’t sell its tech on those commercials, Apple sell the image of fresh & cool. People buy the fresh & cool, which doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best product. The iPhone 4S will sell a lot, not because it is the best phone out there (we know it’s not) but because it’s fresh & cool. Exactly what the commercials want the customers to think!
38. ilia1986 (unregistered)
Without being cynical at the slightest - I also think that Steve's death has also contributed to the sales. With all the talking about him, and all.
Hell if I were extremely cynical I would have suggested that the exact point of his death - just a day after the 4S event - has been all part of the Apple marketing campaign.
39. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 4641; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
With Apple, I couldn't say no to that. Apple is capable of ANYTHING!
ilia1986 you could be so right!

ICS is gonna be amazing. I'm officially sold. I love my Xoom, and to have all the good of that, improved, and on my phone is a wet dream.

Google is making South east companies like HTC, Huawei, ZTE, asus, Acer, Pantech and most importantly SAMSUNG richer and richer by giving us Android. Otherwise these companies would be nothing. These companies are earning billions ( Even this 2.5 billion dollars is puny) through MOBILE BUSINESS. Google's income from MOBILE BUSINESS was just 4% of the total revenue according to FCC documents 2011. Google is putting a dent in the US economy because of Android. Google should start charging for Android.

One day you and family will have to resort to begging, then you will come to know the seriousness of the problem.
53. ilia1986 (unregistered)
Even without knowing Sniggly personally - I just couldn't contain a huge burst of laughter.
Hey maybe when the world economy comes crashing down, we will all resort to using old Nokia phones. I wonder if Apple will still be around to charge all of us for patent infrigement.
49. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
your logic is flawed.
Any american company could pick up android and make a great handset. Dell tried it and failed because they made subpar products.
your hypocracy stinks. Apple outsources 90% of its jobs to Chinese sweatshops where people would rather commit suicide than continue working for 50 bux a MONTH at 70 hr weeks. As a company it skirts a lot of its money outside the US to avoid taxes. And its previous owner scolded its customers for dare saying there was a problem with the product (antenna).

Why the hell this turned into another apple vs android wars?
25. Sniggly (Posts: 7281; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
I wasn't going to comment on anything Apple wise until I got here and saw that done for me already.
So now that I've simply thrown my two cents in instead of popping the cherry, I just wanted to say that I'm very excited to see what Page is talking about with Ice Cream Sandwich. When will we find out about it, though?! *whines*
30. Sniggly (Posts: 7281; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Wait a minute, Phonearena. You fail to moderate the comment above by Sam which is vaguely racist and makes assertions that Google is bad by helping companies like Samsung and HTC simply because those companies aren't American, but you MODERATE MY COMMENT THAT EXPRESSES ANGER AT SUCH A BACKWARD ATTITUDE?

Oh NOW phonearena has mods on these post, I can't say their only watching apple bashers or not but I noticed like 4 or 5 post that say this comment has been moderated.

I am the newest android user in the house. I must confess, I'm extremely pleased with my SGS2. Stepping up from Nokia N900, my friends Iphones (3gs and 4g esp.) never got my attention. In fact, they where always thrilled at what I could do with my N900.
Now, with my SGS2, all I can scream is "ANDROID ALLTHE WAY".

50. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
new ios5 features
improved brainwashing and IQ reduction techniques.
look, taco has iOS5. Every improvement he made last month has dissapeared.
52. ilia1986 (unregistered)
Considering that iOS 5 doesn't even have HALF the things Android 1.5 does - you are totally screwed.
Go ahead. Continue to believe that Apple is the greatest when they will release the iPhone 5 with a 4" screen and a 1Ghz dual core processors - while the mid range Android phones will have 1.5Ghz dual core and a 4.3" screen, and High end phones will probably be quad core and 4.5 - 4.65" by then.
Only thing that I gotta give Apple credit for is the camera. Then again - I'm sure that others will follow suit as well.

Hey taco try this for an up grade Thinner and “faster than the iPhone 4S”, 1GB of RAM, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4G LTE, to be the thinnest LTE phone, 4.3-inch screen.
