He's right. This will be the final nail in Microsoft's mobile coffin. Office availability will make WP and RT less attractive because there will be better hardware with better ecosystems that will have it as soon as they do this. The Surface is not in the same league as the Nexus 10 and iPad.

Actually this is Google's method.

Every OS has access to Google Maps (1 way or another) and Google makes a lot of software products for all platforms...

It is true that they reserve the best for Android of course... but they rely on all users across OSs

Microsoft is trying hard to be Google and Apple at the same time... balancing openness with cautiousness.

that is true, the surface is on a different league of its own, remember, it's a desktop experience on a tablet form, Once office is available to ios and android, they will for once, be able to experience what real applications mean, not just in the number of apps available, but the number of reliable apps...

Agreed... I actually like what they are trying to do, but they should keep key Office features to Windows OS only...

But today there are a lot of office-like solutions for phones and tablets that are actually very productive...

My fav is Kingsoft Office for android... there is room for improvement but it is the most flexible and feature rich yet.

Yes, there are many office apps, but nothing gets even close to the desktop experience. If this thing can get closer than others - it being made by the same company which is responsible of the desktop counterparts - it's going to be awesome! :D
