Microsoft takes Motorola back to court in Germany, seeking licensing fee on Google Maps

0. phoneArena 11 Oct 2012, 11:50 posted on

No sooner had Motorola Mobility practically stopped selling hones and tablets in Germany, than Microsoft is at it again taking Motorola Mobility back to court in Germany alleging that Motorola's Android phones ship with Google Maps which Microsoft says infringes on its own mapping patents...

Yeah correctly said, Apple sit back in every other area, watch how others are innovating things around you.

I dare Microsoft to try Sony and see what happens...

Microsoft knows it's own phones fail, so it has to make money from others. I suppose, therefore, you could say it's doing well in the phone market. Bullies.

Just like a certain other company.

I can't wait for the day Google stops being so cosy with everyone and joins these wars head on.

What is that certain company? I hope you don't mean Apple, or you would be wrong, they are not like Microsoft because their phones/products are actually selling, unlike Microsoft where all they get is licence/law suit money. I have no love for Apple but their products do sell

Wow. You really HATE facts, dontchya?

-Google kinda owns Motorola. In case ya missed it.

-Microsoft gets royalties from other manufacturers due to actual advancements they made and own. It is truly not the same as taking someone to court over a shape.

-Microsoft had approached Moto over and over about licensing fees, trying to work out a deal not involving court. Moto, owned by Google in case you missed it, said no.

-Rest assured..... Sony is coming. Android as an OS uses technology at it's core that requires a license fee. It isn't highway robbery, nor is it immorally wrong, and it isn't even about stopping Motorola (Which is owned by Google, by the way) or any other Android developer from making money or outselling. It is about using their tech that is patented.

So is this what MS has been suing the Android manufactures for? We havent heard a peep about what they were getting money for until now.

If so...this is odd seeing as how Google Maps is Google's thing and not the OEMs

Motorola get over it, all Microsoft wants is to enter in licensing agreement of Android patents.

I don't care THAT heavily about Motorola, Microsoft, or the German court system. But this cements in my mind that I will never have another Microsoft product in my home. They are just as evil, if not more than my now SECOND favorite tech company, Apple. (Yes, I love Apple products too. I just hate the way they do business and the infectious arrogance that seems to spread to SOME its iPhone customers).

This just seems like another "patent-gone-wrong" story that never should have happened in the first place. People use two different sources to present information all the time, but when you put it in an app someone get to "own" it? Apple and microsoft are gonna destroy the tech world until they are the only two left, then we'll really see what's its like to get f*cked.

This patent sounds like one of the ridiculously broad, stupid patents apple holds. Microsoft does not deserve any royalties or licensing off Google maps. I also do not think I will be buying any more Microsoft products, as I see no more need for them and i am starting to dislike the company for its pettiness

Instead of hating the folks who are awarded the patent, why not hate the folks that gave out the patent?

So we should only dislike the system and never those who use it to do bad things? There are plenty of reason why MS has been banned from my home, starting with the Motorola Q, the Samsung Saga, Windows Mobile 5, 6, 6.5, and ending with a non-operational 6 month old Vista laptop that just died for no reason at all. Their products suck, plan and simple and that already horrible experience was made worse by reading crap like this. It may seem harsh but I'm sure I didn't hurt MS feelings at all.

if you using windows xbox or office suit u get a licence yes but u want it without licence and use it for free by Crack and no company wants that their things go in market for free so same goes with the things involved with motorola and MS.

Do you know SJ tried to kill LINUX by trying to employ LINUS which he refused? Both Apple and M$ are dead against any Free Software because it breaks their monopoly. Only if S/W patents could be annuled can the world be free from what has become their business policy (litigation) because both these crooks stole from *NIX.

RusticGuy, I'm not sure if that is just your facade but, you seem to have left out old wounds, SJ is correct, MICROSOFT is nothing if they didn't steal Apple UI from the beginning. They ended paying up Apple like 300 mil.

How old are you? I think you need to check history on the relationship between Apple and Microsoft. And the original user interface Apple stole from Xerox PARC. And Apple did attempt to sue Microsoft and lost, then Microsoft bailed Apple out.

"Good artists copy, great artists steal"--Motorola....Oh wait, that was Steve Jobs. Motorola is the company that invented the cell phone. Maybe you'll get rid of your cell phone so you're not associated with any self-proclaimed "copycat" who made their cell phone based on Motorola's innovation.
