Microsoft has just announced some pretty nice updates coming to the Mail, Calendar, and People apps for Windows 8/RT. The updates are due to hit the Windows Store tomorrow, and aim to bring "big improvements to performance and additional new features to make it easier to connect with friends and colleagues, manage your inboxes, create and send email, and manage your calendar"...

Hopefully, you have your updates by now. My Surface RT updated immediately, but my Windows 8 Pro laptop did not. There are two ways to take care of it. Before I found the official way, I had previously simply uninstalled the problem app, and then went to the store, did a search and updated. Worked for me this time as well.
However, there is an official, buried way to do this. Found it here:
had no idea there was a way to check for other updates. It has happened often that I have known an update is available, but on one or another of my devices, no go. Now I will be checking this out regularly, even without news of an update.

Exactly. Music and Video got a big boost too. And while some are saying the changes were not significant, I beg to differ. Very nice changes.
Unlike others, I have no fear the Google/Calendar bit will be worked out later as well. We are in the middle of a big game of chess between these two companies and there will be more.
