A brazen move by Microsoft, the Redmond based manufacturer has released its 'Switch to Windows Phone' app right in the Google Play Store; designed for current Android users making the move to an Windows Phone model, the app sends your current list of installed Android apps to the cloud where it can be loaded onto your new Windows Phone model...

Great move by Microsoft, and I can't imagine Google having a problem with this. Only people who are actively considering a switch would even look for this app. This isn't going to convert anyone.

Not really. I'm looking for this app. Not because I considering switching, but to laugh at it.
Imagine, how desperate they are so they build this kind of app...
Unfortunately, this app isn't compatible in my Galaxy Nexus. Stupid.

This is something Google should employ for Android, because for a lot of people, the reason they won't switch to it from iOS is because of all the apps they purchased on the App store.

I was thinking the same. that would be a pretty good way to help give people that final push.

Of course, there's no way that Apple would allow this in the App Store, and even if it did, the app wouldn't be able to get the info from your iPhone about what apps you have installed, because of the iOS limitations.
This kind of app literally could only exist on Android.

What if you submitted a verified list of apps you've bought on iOS and they gave you a credit for the amount you spent? I'm sure there's ways they could do it without Apple being able to put a kibosh on it.

This app will be nice for those of us Android guys who would like a 928 as a backup phone as I do.

As backup or primary?

Backup of course. I despise WindowsPhone but I like the the new Nokia cameras and phone styling. No windows phone is going to get me to switch from Android and the Note2.

Microsoft also is pleased to announce a new app for android users, called "Genuine Android Advantage". Users can download the app to make sure their version of android is properly licensed. If it finds it is not, such as all motorola phones, it will turn off live wallpapers and replace it with a black background with the message, "This copy of Android is not licensed." Periodically it will also push notifications with links to the site "www.geniuneandroidadvantage.com" for more information.
Users who want to get rid of the app will find they cannot. But users can pay $10, which is 33% off the usual rate of a normal android license. A code will then be delivered to the person's google account.
In a press release, Ballmer stated, "Users need to know their copy of Android is geniune. It is sad that some resort to using phones not authorized by us, or even worse, installing pirated copies of Android from pirate sites like xda, who do not pay us any license fees for their use."

This app is worst rated(1.6) app in playstore than the facebook home(2.2).

Please cough up a plausible and logical answer to this......What benefits, advantages (if there are any) that I would possibly get on a Windows phone that is TOTALLY non existent on Androids???
13. clevername (Posts: 1378; Member since: 11 Jul 2008)
completely nonexistent on android? rooms. genuine office. complete Xbox integration with achievements.
but there are things that android does, that windows phone does better. like kids corner. android only has apps. kids corner is native and much better integrated. and safer. also the social media integration is vastly superior, although the facebook app is superior on android.
that said, android is absolutely more capable at the moment.

So that means none..because those are non priorities nor dealbreakers....thank you for answering...appreciate it very much
17. clevername (Posts: 1378; Member since: 11 Jul 2008)
I wouldn't say deal breakers. rooms has proven invaluable for both my family and my department at work. even though only 7 out of 12 of us have windows phones the others use rooms with limited functionality. and it works wonders. a few of the ones using it on android want to switch just for that feature. and for me personally, I love the xbox integration. that was the thing I missed most when I went from wp7 to android. and kids corner is absolutely perfect for my kids.
these may not be as important for others but they matter. my sister and 2 friends switched purely because they seen the way facebook integrates.
like I said, android is very functional, but not everyone needs all the bells and whistles.

This app is incompatible with your Samsung GT-N7000
19. lallolu (Posts: 170; Member since: 18 Sep 2012)
I was surprised Google allowed it on their play store so I decided to check it out. The funny thing is that it says "The app is not compatible with any of your devices", so I could not download it. The irony is that I have 4 devices on the play store. HTC Sensation, Samsung i9305, Xperia X10 and Samsung p7310.

Maybe this is clever way of saying - You should not try this app! I mean - some sort of hidden Google self protection.
P.S I was not able to check this app too.
