We've been hearing rumors of Microsoft working on its own smartphone for quite a while now, and there's no denying that such a device could radically enhance the dynamics of the Windows Phone ecosystem...

This is quite reliable as it's coming from a MS employee Stephan Elop.

i actually like the idea of WP8 build by microsoft.. like google's nexus line they have the latest version of android!
so if this one turn out to be true, i think they should release the so-called "surface phone" to be the first WP8 with quad core!!
im wishing s4 pro..
but i wish microsoft will allow other chips like nvidia tegra and even samsung's own exynos to build a WP with its chips! it will be sweet!

I think support for more processors will be coming soon (less than/approx 1 year)...
But besides Samsung's processors, I don't really care for other makes... Even put among Samsung, I prefer Qualcomm.

but monopoly sucks! so thats why even you said that you dont care about other chips, they should build a device with WP...
i mean the surface RT runs with NVIDIA Tegra 3 not qualcomm's chips.. so why wont they allow these chip makers to build a WP with their chips?

Microsoft getting close to nokia and htc at the same time, feels like ms is dating two girls and both know abt each other being part of the relation. Its just that nokia is an official old chick who can't help but stay in the relation and see ms gallivanting with htc !!!
It must be so awkward for Nokia !!
Microsoft knows how to Play and play well :D

Seems fair analogy but then it gets weird as I try to dig further :/
MS would be dating itself then :??

If Microsoft really want to launch it's own smartphone, then they should allow other OEM's like Nokia, HTC and Samsung to incorporate some changes in the UI of WP, so that they can be in better position to differentiate their products from each other; this could be just like Google's nexus line................ It's necessary because Microsoft is not allowing the OEM's to differentiate in terms of Hardwares, though they are claiming support for upto 64 cores in WP8, but all the OEM's are forced to use dual core S4 processor and not the quadcore S4 pro processor. Eventhough nokia and other OEM's are trying hard to differentiate their products by launching their phones in multiple colors, and putting some new technologies like pureview camera, true motion HD+ pureview display etc, but it will be better if OEM's have right to tinker with the WP UI little bit, so they can differentiate their products.........

Main concern behind Microsoft's actions is to help rise WP ecosystem. Now WP boots only 5% of all smartphones. This is bad if you are Microsoft. Goal of them is to get WP in mid tens. That is why MS is like best friends with Nokia and good friend to HTC. I mean look at it as MS is daddy and Nokia and HTC as daughters
