Microsoft lying about screen sizes in iPad vs Windows 8 tablet comparison

0. phoneArena 24 May 2013, 02:31 posted on

Microsoft's reputation isn't really top-notch, but there's probably a good reason for this. Interestingly, the company isn't willing to stop reminding us of that. A great example is a recent ad by the Redmond-based tech giant, which is trying to portray Apple's iPad as an inferior product to one of the Windows 8-powered tablets...

MS started at its very beginnings with Gates stealing from Jobs to create their first OS. It's no surprise that the company still lies about everything today.

Apple stole the GUI from xerox, and asked for msoft help in building it since the only way to build it was through BASIC, and then msoft did their own version of GUI.
when Steve jobs was faced with this fact after he said msoft stole apples GUI, he said quoting from Picasso, "good artist copy, gr8 artist steal !!!

no, its a fail of the author of the article....the article is ridiculously defending incapable iToy with:

1) no free copy
+
2) default app selection
+
3) just an iConboard

= a dumb device :)

and W8RT no one buys = a few major manufacturers no longer sell this because of poor demand :)

the article quality = zero :)

This article isn't defending the iPad in any way. It just states a clear fact that the iPad's screen area is actually larger than the Asus's tab and that there are third party 'office' apps that work pretty well.
Why can't you fanboys accept the facts? Butthurt much?

The point is the images are scaled differently in favor of the Asus tab. The avg person will just look at the picture comparison since they can't visualize what a 0.4" diff in diagonal means, specially when different aspect ratios are involved.

And that is the essence of the claim of dishonesty being made against MS. They would have a more valid claim to make if they stressed that Office is not available on the iToys. The Office wannabes with maybe the exception of Google Docs, just aren't exactly ready for prime time.

But it is much easier to take a cheap shot and lie about screen size, which is what MS did.

"Of course, the uneducated viewer will simply look at the diagonals, thinking that this is the ultimate metric that illustrates screen size, and that's what Microsoft's probably hoping for here."

The only uneducated are the readers who will read this article and believe your buffoonary idiotic crap of an article. Nuff said.

ZOMG they lied!!! What's next, Nokia is lying about Samsung and Apple fanboys? It was supposed to be funny not dead accurate even though if there's a lawsuit, Microsoft can argue that they meant diagonal size and MS Office, in which case the commercial wasn't wrong. Seems like AppleInsider took it a little too seriously.

It is very normal for any tech company to lie in advertisements and MS is not different than the others. Just like Apple said in their latest iPhone Ad that 'More people use iPhone to listen to music to any other phone'.... Again that is not true either.... If Ads were meant to be dead right than all ads would suck...

At first I'd chalk the article up to Ray's unabashed Apple brand enthusiasm, however now that you mention the MS ads they've been plastering all over the site I chalk it up to PA trying to respond to any perception that because MS is giving them advertising dollars that they'd go soft on the company.

Well, I can't see the problem... screen size has always been expressed this way, then of course there's the aspect ratio, but that is a different thing.
If I buy a 32'' LCD television, due to the 16:9 aspect ratio its height is lower than, say, a 22'' 4:3 old tv set. Does this mean the manufacturer lied on the screen size? Noone ever complained.

Most of the people check for screen diagonal size, and in that aspect 10.1" is always greater than 9.7", no matter which way u measure it....... Such a fanboy article, that also coming from tech author of the site which is supposed to be neutral........

I have to say, poor and biased reporting from Ray S. You'll never become a real journalist with that kind of personal preferences getting in the way of your work, clouding your judgment. You'll forever remain a tech-blogger, which seems appropriate for the time being.

Since Microsoft isn't lying, and since you even admit it yourself, then why does your headline say that they do? Microsoft Office is an Windows tablet exclusive, and the screen size is bigger (without mentioning with which method to measure it). See, no lies. Only you have now lied, with biased reporting that holds no ground.

And the ending paragraph was just you being mad. You could have left that out completely since it added nothing of value to the rest of the not-news above it.

When he mentioned "apps" that can do the same thing as MS Office, I think I giggled a little. Not even close. The closest I've ever seen that compares to Office is OpenOffice/LibreOffice which, coincidentally, will run on a Windows 8 tablet as well. It won't run on IOS. Nobody gives a s*** about the difference in the screen size. Nice attempt to fuel the internet hate machine.

I feel the writer is taking appels side in this article, which I really don't respect to take the side of one part and fighting the other party.
as a start, I think if I am not mistaken, you are talking about the latest advertisement by apple.
so here is a small reply to the small details you focused on, and the big details you missed.
1st of all please keep in mind windows 8 tablet is more than one manufacturer, hp, Samsung, surface (Microsoft) Toshiba, dell and much much more
2nd yes office is different, office is not like its rivals, what office does no other software can do, like the feature of (edit on the go using the cloud)
3rd, why didn't you mention the multi processing part ?
4th what about apple product support, can you see the neglect the support of older versions so fast ?
as for sharks
msoft did,t steal from apple, please go educate your self before you speak, apple stole the GUI from xerox, and asked for msoft help in building it, and then msoft did their own version of GUI.
when Steve jobs was faced with this fact after he said msoft stole apples GUI, he said quoting from Picasso, "good artist copy, gr8 artist steal !!!

please people when you want to stand on a side of one party, please educate yourself first, u can find free articles on the net, use google

I'm not sure how saying a bigger screen is bigger is now considered a lie. However, saying that there are apps that do the same thing as office is a egregious lie told by Ray S. Since Ray thinks the sales of the 2 companies is somehow relevant to the article, he should know that Bill Gates just regained his position of richest man in the world based on the success of win8. Maybe Ray didn't look that up because he can only do 1 thing at a time. Ah Ray, you never seem to learn, don't use Appleinsider to scavenge for articles.....please, just start working for them instead.

First off technically Microsoft didn't lie. They just stated one fact and decided to leave out others. Didn't Apple do the same thing when they released the iPad mini and compared it to the nexus 7 saying the ipad minis screen was better, while in fact it may be larger, but the resolution isn't as good...
