MS actually profits quite well from licensing fees, from Android. Maybe their actual goal is to kill all other platforms, and live on as patent troll?

Elop is a real Badass guy xD . but this was a good decision.now make more cheaper lumia devices which includes MediaTek chips.

So it will be more cheaper than 520,525 models . may be it will replace Asha segment. Who knows.

Nokia's take on S40 was the best thing to happen on dumbphones. My nokia x2-02 just freakin works and rocks.

I still have one, and it works well yet.

Never held or owned a Asha phone so I don't know much of them but I feel this is an odd move by Microsoft.

RIP the Good old Nokia I knew. You were the best.

Goodbye to feature phones. God I loved that Nokia 100, best battery life on a feature phone.
And I'll miss those cute little Ashas. MS is now even afraid and ditching the harmless Java based platform.

I am going to buy the Nokia 515, the last feature phone made by Nokia in this era.

This is wrong. Killing feature phones is wrong. Asha touch screen phones are crap and there's no denying it. But in Asia the simple keypad Nokia phones sell very well. By killing them, Microsoft is going to lose the keypad phone market and secondly Samsung is gonna profit a lot more as it'll get the lions share of that particular market.

This way, Nokia will be dependent on MS down the road, gutted barely alive and possibly despised.
MS is being bad, again.

Doing what's necessary to be a more efficient and nimble company isn't being bad its doing what's needed to be done. Buying an American company company its patents then selling it to Lenovo is being bad. Microsoft didn't do that. Google did.

Entire workforce fired pretty much in this case.
Patents stayed in US,
with someone who could look after them for all.
Other wise, MS would have done them in too.

You are bad at math, 25,000 employees, 12,500 got let go MS also let go thousand of their own employees and cut back on projects like original programming. You Android fanboys need to quit making it something it isn't you sound desperate grasping at straws. When Google and even Nokia, BB and others layed off employees you didn't kick up a stink, when Google let go Motorola employees where was all venom from you guys. Haters gonna hate.
82. AfterShock (Posts: 3698; Member since: 02 Nov 2012)
So only half, that makes it all better.
If them weren't enough warning signs as is.
Some are inside (MS) cuts, and not tiny at all.
Soon the pay to shills will be cut.
In Motos case, they hadn't made money in prior three years or so..Nokia while in dires, was not as far gone period.

So why whenever anyone else cuts their workforce or posts revenues under the projected, they are done according to competitors fanboys. When this happened to HTC, all the talk from non HTC fanboys was that they're done. Rapid fire layoffs and killing off multiple product lines isn't an indication of a health business outlook.

Microsoft has officially stripped Nokia for spare parts and patents and are tossing the rest in a bonfire. So sad. The once mighty Nokia reduced to nothing by Microsoft.

I hope and wish, same happens to their Wp platform.
79. Liveitup (Posts: 1798; Member since: 07 Jan 2014)
You indulge in delusions it seems. Microsoft didn't strip Nokia for spare parts and patents, you have no idea what you speak of besides Nokia is alive and well. Their D and S division belongs to MS I'm looking forward to great devices. You got Microsoft and Google mixed up they are they ones who stripped Motorola for patents.

To protect Android from iFruit not to patent troll.
89. BobbyDigital (Posts: 2010; Member since: 29 May 2014)
You are the most delusional fanboy I've come across yet. Microsoft took the bread and butter of a Finnish company, fired half of its work force and ran off with the patents. Killed its handset division. If that's not stripping it for spare parts I don't know what is. The only real resistance Nokia can eek out now is as a patent troll. Nokia was once bigger than Pepsi and Coke combined!! Now they're nothing. A mere she'll of what they once were. The only reason why most of you delusional M$ fan boys don't care is because M$ is an American company and Nokia isn't.

I think giving up MixRadio is a damn dumb Idea unless Microsoft has a good replacement app that can do the same thing or better. I figured Microsoft would sell off Nokia's feature plain Cell Phone business because their focus in the Mobile world is smart phones and Windows. Tablets. Nokia forced them to take it as part of the sales deal. I warn Microsoft not to be stupid and Give up the Android Open source "X2" smart phones because Folks let's face Android OS devices are selling better than MS Windows devices. Since Microsoft is a Devices and services(Software) company MS MUST have Devices even Android devices to sell to customers who come to buy a device from them or their sales partners like BestBuy, Staples, Walmart and other stores worldwide!

Do these People realize that most of the emergent markets' population have a nokia FEATURE "Dumb" Phone NOT a Smartphone because of financial situations and also because they have long lasting batteries ? What replacements are there ? Samsung ? Well their Non-Android Devices are useless " in comparison to nokia ' and don't support whatsapp , LG ? they don't produce many of these , HTC ? Doesn't produce , Sony ? Used to produce some of the best ones but now concentrated on smartphones " wish they produce some of these back specially the Cybershot and Walkman Series" . Alcatel ? Joke . ZTE ? rubbish . THE ONLY REASON Nokia Still has a percentage of sales since they went windows phone is the Feature phone as they're the only true force in it . Say Good Bye To Nokia Sales if Cheap Phones are no longer there and microsoft wasted their money then
