Quite possibly, the following statement will sound somewhat dramatic for a number of people, but it feels appropriate nevertheless: Microsoft's ~$7.2 billion acquisition of Nokia's mobile phone business, in its near entirety, marks an end of an era...

Future windows phone will be branded as Microsoft
9. juandante (Posts: 214; Member since: 23 Apr 2013)
Why did the investitors prevent this fail ? Do they even now Nokia is the only big entreprise remaining in Europe and Finland ? Do Finland even care about Nokia, and one big company giving to their country a good tax and economy ?
Where did this Flop guy came from ? Man I swear I will never buy Nokia again. They don't have any value for me anymore. Micro$oft arrogance on my PC, Micro$oft arrogance on my best cellphone manufacturer.. Nokia is not existing anymore.

Elop is the real trojan
MS sent him to slow down pace of Nokia
as Nokia could have grown much faster with android
but FLOP gave a stupid reason because of SAMSUNG they didnt went with android
Nokia is being sold at such a cheap value??
18. sniper1087 (Posts: 257; Member since: 31 Dec 2011)
Grammar sheck "didnt went" you meant to say they didnt go wtih android. I do disagree we dont need a duopoly in the smartphone world, more OS means more innovation at a competitive price, we dont need prices to skyrocket.
36. SGSatlantis (Posts: 205; Member since: 20 Jul 2011)
Hey grammar "sheck", it's spelled "didn't", "with", "don't". Also, more OS doesn't mean lower price when the OS maker and the OEMs are two different entities. Android is free, it's WP that is payed. Apple controls their own hardware and software and their prices are the least competitive. You're right about the innovation part though.
35. SGSatlantis (Posts: 205; Member since: 20 Jul 2011)
So true, and yet so sad. Nokia will never make another Nokia phone not because it will be rebranded as Microsoft, but because MS will tightly control their development. And the saddest thing of all, there will never be a Nokia android device, a thing I dreamed for years.
89. 7thspaceman (Posts: 718; Member since: 14 Feb 2011)
you are incorrect Nokia still exists as an independent business running the parts of it's Enterprise Microsoft dint buy. the agreement with Microsoft allows that after a few years Nokia can again make Nokia branded smart Phones. the question is will they do that when the time comes they can?
47. akki20892 (Posts: 1674; Member since: 04 Feb 2013)
Agree^................elop did stupidity in 2011 to choosing WP, Not Android. what a shrink decision by elop for nokia to shrink in MS ocean.
now guys tell me in 2011 Nokia with Android will be great pair. hit like if guys are agree. I'm supporting Nokia not WP.
64. 14545 (Posts: 880; Member since: 22 Nov 2011)
It wasn't stupidity, it was a plan. He is a shill and he alone sunk Nokia for the purpose of driving the price low enough for MS to buy them. If I were a nokia investor I would sue the flock out of he and microsoft.
Too the others that say this is a good deal because we need another dominate platform for competition, sure. However, Nokia had a very decent OS two years ago before elop said to trash it in favor of WP crap. So I would say that those actions alone directly led to where we are today. NOT TO MENTION, if there wasn't some shadiness in this deal, then why did enflop have to "step down" to avoid a "conflict of interest"? Com'on, see the writing on the wall.

I'm From Finland and I think this is bull sh*t ! Douchebag Steven Elop !
86. 7thspaceman (Posts: 718; Member since: 14 Feb 2011)
juandante Nokia was in trouble before Elop took over. Elop did what he set out to do which was to make Nokia the best Windows Phone 8 OEM. how ever new information has come out that Nokia did not have enough cash to continue it's Windows smart
phone 8 design, testing, manufacturing and sales. Nokia's other businesses needed cash so bad that Nokia is heading for Bankruptcy. MS CEO Ballmer found this out and made the right call he bought Nokia's smartphone division and all it's related patents he could get plus got a long term lease to use the ones Microsoft could not buyout as for Elop being a Trojan I do not think so MR Elop said he always wanted to be a CEO he's lost that position when these financial problems drove Nokia near bankruptcy and Nokia had to sell out it's smart phone division.
The agreement does allow nokia to make smartphones in the Future but will they come back into that industry after all this. the money from Microsoft will save what is left of Nokia
2. SIGPRO (Posts: 317; Member since: 03 Oct 2012)
Oh hell no, Nokia is gone now damn you Elop! Nokia does not deserve this fate!
48. akki20892 (Posts: 1674; Member since: 04 Feb 2013)
Nokia sell Lumia & Asha brand, so we can see Nokia Android or their own OS?
Like my Nokia 1020 with android not Nokia Lumia 1020 with WP.
72. rihel_95 (Posts: 109; Member since: 21 Mar 2012)
i didnt know "#SWITCH" would have such greater meaning!
75. downphoenix (Posts: 1987; Member since: 19 Jun 2010)
Elop did a mightly fine job in felling the beast that is Nokia, making it succumb to Microsoft's whim, so that it would have a primed and ready device manufacturer to serve its needs. Maybe the Trojan Horse can now be redubbed to the Elop.
3. TechFreak (Posts: 11; Member since: 22 Mar 2013)
Nokia failed sooooooooooooooooooooooooo hard..!!!!
See now all WP fanboys why Nokia went with WP instead of android..!!!
49. akki20892 (Posts: 1674; Member since: 04 Feb 2013)
that is my question too dude........in 2011 they should choose Android not WP because we know android have some apps in 2011 and that os was growing so fast, not like WP fresh new os with no apps and not growing fast as android.
4. snowgator (Posts: 3015; Member since: 19 Jan 2011)
I will admit, I never expected to see this happen. It is now Item #1 I was wrong about. I do not think it is a good thing for WP. Makes no sense to rid yourself of the Nokia name. I am not stunned, I am numb. Just really really worried for the OS and manufacturer I have grown to believe in.
88. 7thspaceman (Posts: 718; Member since: 14 Feb 2011)
Folks Nokia still exists as a private company but will be running it's other Business Enterprises that Microsoft did not buy. the agreement with Microsoft allows Nokia to come back into the smart phone business/Feature
cell phone business in the future. Nokia is not dead just regrouping
5. cezarepc (Posts: 419; Member since: 23 Nov 2012)
Android-powered-Nokia is now a great dream never to come true.
56. pwnarena (Posts: 438; Member since: 15 Feb 2013)
on the contrary, it may now come true. according to some reports, nokia will remain as nokia and will still produce feature phones. there's going to be some years when it may not be allowed to produce smartphones but it will probably use android soon.
77. jromy (Posts: 102; Member since: 26 Feb 2013)
no...according to some reports, you're lying.
87. 7thspaceman (Posts: 718; Member since: 14 Feb 2011)
you are wrong to think NOKIA will not someday make a android smart phone because the agreement with Microsoft allows Nokia to make
smart phones in the future. Microsoft only bought out Nokia's existing
smart phone and feature phone ASHa Business. Nokia will now be
an independent company running the businesses that Microsoft did
buy or get a lease on.
6. lyndon420 (Posts: 1359; Member since: 11 Jul 2012)
With the patents they will be acquiring, one can assume a bunch of lawyers are smiling and gearing up for war.
7. juandante (Posts: 214; Member since: 23 Apr 2013)
Wtf ? Am I dreaming ? What the heck is this news ?
What value does nokia have now ? A joke ? What this micro$oft and Flop did ???
43. volcano (Posts: 196; Member since: 25 Jan 2013)
wtf am i dreaming what value does motorola have now ?
62. protozeloz (Posts: 5188; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
Motorola and Nokia deals where so different.... For starters Moto CEO was not a Google Trojan horse
69. Googler (Posts: 813; Member since: 10 Jun 2013)
And Google is keeping them a separate company. Doesn't sound like that's the case with MS & Nokia.
10. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3724; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
WTF is this? I'm not gonna buy a Windows Phone that's branded as Microsoft. I want a Windows Phone by Nokia, only Nokia.
You better not ruin the originality of Nokia, Microsoft!
16. SonyXperiaNexus (Posts: 367; Member since: 01 Oct 2012)
i dont think that will happen, microsoft still need the image nokia and lumia have created. Its popularity has risen recently. besides, i hope microsofts attitude and image will also change with its CEO, Maybe Nokia might influence microsoft in some way. maybe we will see new and better services with microsoft and nokia services combined, bingmaps+heremaps etc also i look forward to seeing a more durable xbox lol.I just hope for the best
42. Nathan_ingx (Posts: 2952; Member since: 07 Mar 2012)
I don't think by acquiring Nokia, Microsoft will change everything. Google acquired Motorola but still the name remains, of course, that's just an example but i still think Nokia won't lose it's name no matter what people say. I don't think the Finnish would have signed a contract or rather agreed to Microsoft taking over the brand name.
And to all who think they will fail, we only have to wait and see.
63. protozeloz (Posts: 5188; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
Deals are different, Google bough all of Motorola electronic division(included TV and all that stuff) while MS bough Nokia's phone division, second is the way of operation, when Google bough moto it was not leading their market, but Nokia is the biggest share holder in MS OS, so this would be De equivalent to Google buying the Samsung phone division and personal in charge of the production of the "galaxy" brand name
65. Nathan_ingx (Posts: 2952; Member since: 07 Mar 2012)
We'll see about that...if Microsoft changes everything. I'm turning my face away.
37. veer.d (Posts: 78; Member since: 12 Jul 2013)
xd u r saying that elop saves the sinking ship
now u have to agree on the fact that elop is the worst CEO ever
he even doesn`t love nokia, he is just after M$
very sad day for innovation
will miss NOKIA forever
GOD will send the elop to HELL
44. volcano (Posts: 196; Member since: 25 Jan 2013)
actually im more than happy to buy a phone developed by microsoft and nokia at the same time what was better now its going to be even better with two giants joining forces into one big force good luck to both of them
52. PAPINYC (Posts: 1834; Member since: 30 Jul 2011)
They will, you wait and see. Nokia, excuse me, Microsoft Phones beginning in 2014 will have a ghastly overlay of impressioned tiles on the body and Microsoft will opt for a flat finish versus high gloss; oh, and all their phones will be vomit blue.
11. SIGPRO (Posts: 317; Member since: 03 Oct 2012)
Damn i should bought some shares in Nokia, stock went up with 40%..........damn i could have been rich now :-(
26. pookiewood (Posts: 354; Member since: 05 Mar 2012)

And i was planning to buy my next Nokia phone in near future, but now ...
45. volcano (Posts: 196; Member since: 25 Jan 2013)
haha here goes android fans dream into dust
15. amansingal14 (Posts: 260; Member since: 08 Sep 2012)
I am not gonna buy a phone branded 'Microsoft'. F##k it, I am gonna buy only Sony/HTC now.
I am gonna miss you Nokia... You'll always be my favourite brand.
17. pwnarena (Posts: 438; Member since: 15 Feb 2013)
since the lumia and asha brands are moving to microsoft, i assume nokia will be adopting android this time.
based on this report,www.theverge.com/2013/9/3/4688
it appears nokia will not simply die away. it may just distance from its old smartphone venture with the lumias. it may do android devices this time.
21. amansingal14 (Posts: 260; Member since: 08 Sep 2012)
Nope, they also have to transfer all the employs to the Redmond company. Nokia Devices' workers are no longer Nokia Devices', they are now Microsoft's.
Also, in order to continue making mobiles, Nokia must add the clause in the agreement, and that they are no longer related to the 2011 Windows agreement.
I still remember the 3 year buy-out clause in the 2011 agreement. Oh, Nokia could have paid MS a billion $ and started making Android phones.
Elop, you're an @$$#0|_3
19. tiara6918 (Posts: 1103; Member since: 26 Apr 2012)
I just hope their product won't turn out to be something like the zune
20. Antonyjoseph (Posts: 168; Member since: 06 Apr 2013)
To put things in perspective MS bought Skype for $ 8.5 billion. Elop the Mole really did a good job.

And he will be richly rewarded for this with his new title in a year or so.
All next gen gamers should boycott the Xbox One. Their anti-consumer stances shouldn't be tolerated. Yeah I know they backtracked, but that was because of consumer outrage for their asinine policies. In their arrogance, they thought the Xbox fanboys would accept this meekly, and follow them like sheep. They just think of their fan base as mindless idiots, and not educated consumers. So lets speak with our wallets and hurt this greedy company where they can feel it. The Xbox is their cash cow, since obviously WP and RT will never be.
23. itsdeepak4u2000 (Posts: 1511; Member since: 03 Nov 2012)
Nokia will always be my favorite brand. I'll only buy WP, if it comes with Nokia tag otherwise a big NO... Now I'll prefer Sony.
Mr. Flop f**ked Nokia.
24. charles007 (Posts: 2; Member since: 03 Sep 2013)
this is what i call the trojon effect.. sad
25. julaiele (Posts: 12; Member since: 10 Aug 2013)
I think it's a strategic business move of Nokia. After this sell out, they can venture into yet same phone business but on another new brand name. Same build quality they are known of and now with Android OS. Fresh concepts. Clever minds.
57. pwnarena (Posts: 438; Member since: 15 Feb 2013)
they are banned from producing smartphones for 10 years according to the sale agreement. however, they can still produce feature phones.
28. good2great (Posts: 952; Member since: 22 Feb 2012)
ah, i like this decision. i'd buy a microsoft branded device. I just hope they can intergrade all of their products into one ecosystem. The camera will be a beast as well.
Good for MS
29. pookiewood (Posts: 354; Member since: 05 Mar 2012)
Now that all the Whiners/haters have had their say!! I think this is great news and I expect a lot of great devices to come out of this. I'm pretty excited!
