Microsoft Surface tablet gets run over at 60mph and survives

A Microsoft Surface was left on the top of a car and hit the road when its owner drove away, forgetting about the slate; after falling off the car, it was run over by someone else at 60mph and yet, the tablet was no worse for wear, still humming along perfectly...

This magnesium looking device is probably the most stunning tablets I have ever seen. But $700 for a drop? That's painful...

Whenever I hear of these stories I can't help but wonder how these people are the ones with the money to afford these luxuries and not the people who will treat them as such.

That is impressive. Gotta hand it to MS for build quality.

Is it just me, or does this seem a little bit fishy. I mean how is it possible to have 2 similar situations of the surface resisting damage ( Other one of it being dropped from the roof of a car) in just a short period of time. IM NO DOUBTING ITS RESILIENCE CAPACITY, IF TRUE KUDOS. But IMO this sounds a lot like marketing strategy.

Could be a marketing strategy. But if it is, it's one of the saddest ones ever. It's impressive that it's this sturdy, but that's not going to persuade people into buying it.

I mean it is great that it is strong, but what are the odds that two similar types of accidents with surface and happen. Next well see an article claiming it is bulletproof. Get real people, even a car doesn't come off clean at a crash at 60mph, let alone a phone.

There's been people doing this to devices for years, intentionally and not. I remember when the macbookair came out some kids placedit on the street but angled onto the curb (so laying at about a 45 degree angle) and proceeded to run it over with a car. While I wasn't concerned about the destruction of the device, it was nonetheless silly and pointless, and the people in the video were planning on using their Squaretrade insurance to get a replacement

Hi all! Rob Waldhauser here!
Just wanted to clarify cause there's nothing I hate more than false acquisitions. As much as I would love to work for Microsoft, I don't. But yeh this is a true story, probably scariest moment of my life! And if you think its dumb that I left my surface on my roof, my mom ensured me that it was much dumber of me to stop my car in the middle of the road to jump out and save it! Lol
