Microsoft Surface owners report random sound issues

0. phoneArena posted on 08 Nov 2012, 07:31

The Windows RT based Microsoft Surface tablet has been out for a few weeks now, and the reviews have been generally positive. Despite the current lack of enough quality apps available on the new platform, the slate is solid, sturdy, and has good battery life. But it seems like some units might be affected by a strange issue that has yet to be resolved...

Before anyone says anything, just remember that all products have a faulty batch and one or two users is only a small number compared to the number of people who bought the tablet. It can all be fixed with a small software update.

I seriously doubt you'd say this same thing if it were an apple device :p

I would say the same thing for an Apple device, all devices have there fair share of faults.

I'm probably the biggest Apple fanboy here and I point out flaws with their products. It happens.

I admit their flaws too. I don't see any product and company as perfect, I'm just pointing out that if this were the iPad with the same issue, the tone would be opposite from this.

I have the Surface RT with the Touch Cover, and yes I have noticed this problem as well. It only occurs after waking the computer up from sleep as far as I can tell, and it is resolved by pressing the volume up or down button when you resume.

Pretty sure this is a software issue related to the Windows 8 sleep/wake function.

I haven't experienced this issue, and I use the touch cover.

I have had a problem with the Xbox Music app though, the audio skips and freezes when I browse the web in Internet Explorer. I think it's a fixable problem with the Music app though, because that hasn't happened with iHeartRadio or TuneIn.

I haven't experienced this issue, but I have noticed that when the device is "asleep"/connected standby, that mail notification sounds are garbled, as though the sound subsystem isn't outputting at the correct rate.
