Microsoft Surface and its impact on the tablet market

0. phoneArena 20 Jun 2012, 10:17 posted on

With the introduction of the iPad, Apple redefined what the words “tablet computer” mean. Before the iPad, they mostly meant a big, clunky laptop-like device with an unresponsive swivel-screen that could eventually take the form of about three or four iPads stacked on top of each other...

Of course I have Samsung Series 5 Hybrid PC in mind (Which is only 8mm thick) but you know Microsoft is something ELSE.

Folks I am tired of people wanting Microsoft to make an Ipad killer. People lets get real here. Microsoft already has a HUge ECO system that is more powerful than what the IPAD has TODAY and that is it's huge I mean very huge amount of Windows programs
that are in existence today. PC fans and PC users like myself want a Windows Tablet computer that can run our windows Programs that run on our PC desktops, Laptop,
and Servers. "WE PC PEOPLE donot NEED or want an IPAD killer we have plenty of Windows Business, Education, PC Games, and special custom business related
programs to use on OUR WINDOWS intel x86 tablet computers. The problem has been no one has been successful in giving us a fast smooth operating Windows tablet computer that will do the job. We PC FANS Hope windows 8 will give us what we want

The jury is out for me. MS talks a good game but doesn't have a track record of delivering. Does anyone remember Windows Me, Windows Vista, the Zune? I'll believe it when I see it.

Personally, no matter how good it is, I think it will be dead on arrival. Two different models with incompatible OS', the price, and the fact that there's no software yet add up to "meh" from the market.

I more inclined to buy a Microsoft Surface Tablet whatever the Cost because I want a
more business oriented tablet computer. I hear Dell is said to have an even thinner
Intel x86 than the Microsoft surface. I will look at their's to see how it stacks up against the Microsoft surface. it is nice to know that us Windows PC and laptop users and Fans
are finally getting a Windows Tablet computer that will run full windows Programs which number in the thousands/ lets hope windows 8 will do the job

I do not think the windows tablets will be dead on arrival because Microsoft is in the game themselves now making the windows tablet computer because the cannot trust OEM's to stay in the game and know that they have a huge inventory of Microsoft
Windows programs that run on Desktop and laptop. the Big and small business Enterprise alone will buy a lot of these windows tablets because they are the best on the market to interface with Microsoft Windows programs hell a window 8 RT tablet will come to the market loaded with Microsoft oFFice software that alone will make it more useful to have than a stock Ipad or Android tablet. Microsoft has decided to stay in the tablet PC world and thet are not going any whre wheter their tablets sell well or poorly.

Microsoft I want in!

Now we're gonna start this by saying goodbye apple! And so long. Thanks for all the innovation but it time to move on from your limited arm of greed. Out with the old and in with the....... Old. Now I say this because tablets have been out for a decade plus but never had the ecosystem that apple amazingly gathered. This in itself is the reason for apple success and was a needed turn for innovation, style, edge, breakthroughs, and power. But now the big boys are back and they are not gonna play. Now I want you to thing of a iPad device (iPad namely but not limited to as windows phone 8 will soon be and could just follow suit of its bigger yet younger sibling) . Now I want you to imagine that iPad jail broken! Good thought right, all those apps for free I can't wait lol, oh and look cydia store where I can get treaks and add ons! All great but now I want you to imagine a pc! Boring right just another iPad wanna be, right?! Will what if I told you wrong. What if I told you this is not just a pc! You'd think me strange? What if I told you this is a device that could be any device you've ever wanted it to be! You think me mad? What if I told you you could not only change a UI though a program but from the core of the device its-self not though a app..... I bet you'd say tell me more lol.

The word app

Now let's talk about this word in detail. The work app means a program that works not just though a device but though that devices matrix or os. Agreeing to abide by the rules of that os and thus having to settle with laws given to it so never really to be free of the cage so desperately needed freeing from. You do not understand do you? Until I use the word program! Something everyone has all but abandoned in the lust to please companys like apple and googles greed for money and power for global position. Now bring in the heroes mircosoft! And the cry is heard to bring back the programmer not app maker!

The word program

The word program has near been forgotten in the cry for apps. The clear but subtle difference is a app abides by rules where a program didn't. A program can take over, enslaves, Imbed, rewrite or just plain run alone side if you will anything it is told to. It is not aslave to its cage the cage is its playground to own. If you still don't understand let put it simple and plain a program can do ANYTHING IT WANTS

What this means for the world

What this means for the world is you now can download anything soon without limitations (expect hardware ones like cpu's and gpu's for ie things like gaming. Everything else can be covered with a simple codec download). This is very important for everyone to remember as now all you'll need is a dream and the right codec and programming skills to make it happen (legal or illegal). Think of things like the meego tablet coming to light not just development though a program store not app store (or stand alone web site).

I really hope this tablet does do well, they've taken a very closed approach in the run up to launch and its hard to find any full reviews anywhere! It really is just going to depend on how people take to windows 8.. if it becomes as popular as windows 7 did, MS have a winner on their hands!

As much as I agree this is aimed at taking market share away from the iPad - when consumers actually see sense (thank god) I have a different dilemma on my hands, I'm considering the Microsoft Surface with Windows RT vs. Sony Xperia Tablet S vs. Sony Vaio T Ultrabook!

I'm just worried about the lack of apps available on RT - like is there even an official facebook app? And am also hoping it doesn't rely too heavily on Xbox games (I'm a PS3 man!) but for other things, such as Office 2013 and the USB port this tablet will be brilliant - but obviously still not as functional as the ultrabook, what do you guys think?
