Nobody will buy an iPad again after windows 8 tablets will be released. Microsoft's Win 8 tablets have a LOT MORE potential than ios and android COMBINED. I'm just not sure why would they release surface RT tablets with only HALF of the win 8 OS, if you want the FULL OS spend 700-800 dollars PLUS tax? They should just release the Surface Pros with FULL win 8 and have a price of 499-599...

Did someone really thumb her down for only being able to afford the Nexus 7 or Kindle? And, what is wrong with calling something expensive, but reasonable? Expensive does not have the same meaning as overpriced. $400 is a lot of money for most people or at least those who don't take into account how much left is on our credit limit into our budgets.

I just don't quite get you people. I can't afford that stuff either so am I going to get thumbs down by such unreasonably judgmental people? I live in a single parent household when my mother only makes 625$ every paycheck but has a damn rent of 685$ plus 250$ dollar utilities.... I knew people like you all existed in the world but I didn't think people like you were so blatant to disrespect people and how hard they work. Enough said....

There are people in the USA that make 700 per paycheck (for 2 weeks) i've experienced that 7 years ago, and it wasn't pretty at all. And then there are those who make 700 in one DAY. And of course also those that only make the 700 in a month, and then there are the homeless too. Please respect that, if you can afford something not matter the price, that doesn't mean everybody else around you CAN too...

Why would they do this?

For Microsoft, they rarely if ever make their money off hardware, as long as there is software, in this case apps. If a person buys 10 apps on launch day for $1.50-3.00 each that allows MS to gain 30% of the cost of sale. Now add in games that may cost substantially more they are looking at a cash cow.

*This doesn't include ad revenue as well as attachment rate profits.

Totally agree. I really didn't expect the RT version to be $300, but thought that is the price it would need to be competitive. However, the Pro version I thought $600 would be a good price and expected it closer to the $1000 range with its laptop replacement potential. $500 sounds too good to be true. This would make a mockery out of the 64 GB iPod Touch going for $400.

dont forget surface has usb port...so hard drive space is irrelevant....even if it is 32gigs..you can use usb stick or use a whole harddrive
