Please don't make me buy an iPad, Microsoft! Let these prices be true.

Nobody will buy an iPad again after windows 8 tablets will be released. Microsoft's Win 8 tablets have a LOT MORE potential than ios and android COMBINED. I'm just not sure why would they release surface RT tablets with only HALF of the win 8 OS, if you want the FULL OS spend 700-800 dollars PLUS tax? They should just release the Surface Pros with FULL win 8 and have a price of 499-599...

Just like any other company, Microsoft would never want just one product of their own in the market. Hence 2 offerings..

too bad i can only afford nexus 7 or kindle fire :D
16. RomeoJDR posted on 18 Sep 2012, 08:46 8
Did someone really thumb her down for only being able to afford the Nexus 7 or Kindle? And, what is wrong with calling something expensive, but reasonable? Expensive does not have the same meaning as overpriced. $400 is a lot of money for most people or at least those who don't take into account how much left is on our credit limit into our budgets.

I just don't quite get you people. I can't afford that stuff either so am I going to get thumbs down by such unreasonably judgmental people? I live in a single parent household when my mother only makes 625$ every paycheck but has a damn rent of 685$ plus 250$ dollar utilities.... I knew people like you all existed in the world but I didn't think people like you were so blatant to disrespect people and how hard they work. Enough said....
19. maier9900 posted on 18 Sep 2012, 09:34 3
There are people in the USA that make 700 per paycheck (for 2 weeks) i've experienced that 7 years ago, and it wasn't pretty at all. And then there are those who make 700 in one DAY. And of course also those that only make the 700 in a month, and then there are the homeless too. Please respect that, if you can afford something not matter the price, that doesn't mean everybody else around you CAN too...

I can't believe I'm actually waiting to buy an W8 tablet. It's been a long time I'm so excited about a new product. And I have been using Mac since 1998!

$500 - $700 That's surprising, i thought it would be between $800 - $1200 in Ultrabook range.
That's a very good deal you have here. Full Windows Experience for that price is right.

the prices stated in this article mentions the production price, I'm sure the estimates are far from retail.

One thing I think you're assuming is that MS wants to sell this a profit and I can easily see them not doing that. Hell, I could see them selling this at a loss by choice.
Why would they do this?
For Microsoft, they rarely if ever make their money off hardware, as long as there is software, in this case apps. If a person buys 10 apps on launch day for $1.50-3.00 each that allows MS to gain 30% of the cost of sale. Now add in games that may cost substantially more they are looking at a cash cow.

Sorry for me the surface feels like a completely new product even from a tablet perspective and I dont justify spending 300 dollars on an OS that really hasnt proven itself to me yet. If they had a 199 edtion Id consider it (it is the sweet spot) and would play around with it but 300 eh its not expensive but I dont just throw money away.

The Pro pricing is perfect. I expected the RT to start at $299 though. Only wanted a Pro anyway, so I'm satisfied. No better tablet on the market for that price yet, and it gives other OEMs room to differentiate.
15. RomeoJDR posted on 18 Sep 2012, 08:36 1
Totally agree. I really didn't expect the RT version to be $300, but thought that is the price it would need to be competitive. However, the Pro version I thought $600 would be a good price and expected it closer to the $1000 range with its laptop replacement potential. $500 sounds too good to be true. This would make a mockery out of the 64 GB iPod Touch going for $400.

Looking forward to surface tablets...what annoys me lot is Intel has already announced Haswell...and it is 20x less power hungry when idle...think I should wait till MS starts deploying 4gen core processors in Surface...I know its hard not to buy such a nice & functional tablet...but hey I know benefits of good processor :)

They should give a 1 year Microsoft Office with each Pro Surface. i know it's a long shot, but it would be great
20. onggeo posted on 18 Sep 2012, 11:22 1
I think the prices are just right. The RT versions are more expensive than the Kindles and the Nexus 7 but offers more productivity, plus if I'm not mistaken the keyboard is free along with Office. The only thing that worries me is developer support. If MS can get developers of the most popular and most used apps to port their apps and a few tablet optimized games to Win8 RT then it would be the perfect tablet with a not so high price. As for the Pro versions, the price is justified by the legacy apps compatibility and the fact that it can fully replace netbooks/ultrabooks.

If these prices are true I am even more excited in purchasing one of these tablets. I still dont know which one. Whether I spend the extra money and go with full blown Windows 8 or be a little more conservative. Regardless it's a great dilemma to be in.

Folks please do the research get the prices of Android tablets that are on sale today
that have the same specs as a a windows "Surface RT" and you will find out that most will cost you more than 400 dollars. i think the cheapest I saw was 369 dollars and it was one of those Tablets that work so badly you will kick you own ass for buying it.i estimated that a good low price for the Microsoft "Surface RT" would be 350 to 400$ and i was right on the money if these rumors are true. but the shock folks is the Microsoft surface pro starting at 500$ for the 32gig main memory Tablet. considering the fact it can run the new Microsoft information tiles and PC Games, full Microsoft Office software and past Windows 2000 OS, XP, Vista, and Windows 7 Programs this is a real powerful Tablet to have. The Enterprise will love to use these. if these prices are right Microsoft stores may have lines around them that equal to what Apple gets when they sell a new device the "Surface Tablet Computer especially the surface Pro will be the Hero device of the microsoft stores the only bad thing is that the surface pro is coming next year. Microsoft could have made a Christmas sale
killing. I donot think the Microsft "Surface pro will be an Ipod killer because it's been sround awhile and has a huge Apps Library but one thing for it will be the Tablet of choice for a huge body of people who want a tablet PC which is a different category than the Ipad is. an Ipad is a General tablet it is not designed to run fun Macintosh pro or Windows PC programs, but that's ok some people do not want that

dont forget surface has usb port...so hard drive space is irrelevant....even if it is 32gigs..you can use usb stick or use a whole harddrive
