Microsoft Surface RT pre-sales red hot; shipping dates pushed back

Since the Microsoft Surface RT was opened up for pre-orders on October 16th, shipping dates have been pushed back in some caases by as much as three weeks; thus far it seems that buyers are going after the 32GB model without a cover...

the tablet game has begun to change...the big dog MS is in the house!

The original Tablet Computers were Windows XP laptops with touch screens. They effectively bombed because they were heavy, overpriced, and the only main benefit was using a stylus to write stuff down and it would then convert it to text.
Then came iPad. Carrying the "Tablet" name, it redefined (popularly) what a Tablet is, but also greatly reduced what customers came to expect out of a Tablet Computer. Today's version of Tablet Computers aren't as fully functional as a Windows laptop (or even Netbook) is in terms of programs, hardware options, hardware upgrades, and peripheral compatibility.
Then came Microsoft Surface (W8 Pro). A true-to-the-name Tablet PC, which is packing an Intel Core i5, running X86 architecture. This means we can download and install (or simply install via flash media or external DVD drive) desktop Windows programs. Not "Apps", but the full program designed for Windows. Games, productivity programs, PhotoShop, and such. Windows, as we know it.
Sure, not everyone is fond of the Tiles, but keep in mind, the Pro version is running full Windows 8, and in this version, Metro is merely the Start screen, and you can exit that Metro screen and go right to your traditional desktop.
Seeing a traditional Windows desktop, on today's Tablet, is what people have been waiting for, and people will be buying them.

We all love windows 8, lumia 920 plus surface is just the perfect duo, and troll I know u gonna comment on this but all u can do is hate cuz u know that windows phone 8 will be a success once every ppl see is tiles they will get used to it lol.

WP8FOREVER a red from me! WTH, those big ugly hideous horriable tiles, my my! WP8 has received negative reviews from critics and bloggers, which has triggered negative perception. 4000 Apps vs iOs and OS 600.000. The big ugly tiles W8 start screen is confusing and also on the L920 every-thing is all over the place, "jumbeld". No Root, no Roms, no overclocking, no Devs will support this like the junk iPad....
MS having a unified OS is also irreeverent know!

That is very hypocritical of you. If you would like to talk Logical Facts, send a link to an article written within the past year where the Marketplace had only 4000 apps. Also, what about it us confusing to you? Are the colors throwing your fragile mind on a fritz? I would also like to see all the negative reviews about the Tiles UI.

I think Win8 is a better tablet OS than android tab os
3. mas11 posted on 20 Oct 2012, 02:19 16 2
If I were to spend $500 on a tablet this would be it. It's the only tablet that runs a fully operational desktop OS. I mean seriously this is what you would plug your iPad into to manage it. For me there is absolutely no reason to buy an iPad over this. Why get a toy when you could get a fully functioning PC for the same price?
4. pongkie posted on 20 Oct 2012, 03:37 7 1
but its an Windows RT its like an ipad with office. the windows pro surface would be out in 3 months and be like 800 bucks and up
5. harsh_doshi posted on 20 Oct 2012, 03:46 2 2
3months! lol! who told you tht!? ittl be released on oct26 itself! and it would cost 700up! and tho rt is not fully functional as w8pro..it can do most of the important things!
6. pongkie posted on 20 Oct 2012, 03:55 0 2
have you seen it on pre orders? the window surface pro coz thats what im talking about

Ipad has got it's brilliant iWork apps which are superior to office rt

The Surface Pro is due in 3 months. OEMs will be releasing Win8 tablets at Win8 launch.
7. checkmymike posted on 20 Oct 2012, 04:37 4 1
@mas11 maybe you are just misinformed, or just plain ignorant. The RT is a lite version and is similar with ipad and android tablet. The one that could function similar to a PC is the Pro version which will cost 800 up.
26. blattlaus posted on 20 Oct 2012, 11:11 0 0
The Acer Iconia 510 running the full Win8 is $499. I think there will be a lot of Atom powered Win8 tablets in the $500-700 range. You are right for i5 and i7 tablets- they will be over $800- but they are more comparible to a Mac Air.
15. darac posted on 20 Oct 2012, 06:59 1 2
Hold your horses..Windows RT is not a full featured windows.. it cant run windows 7 apps as far as I know..neither it can run the desktop mode win 8.
So I would most def pick up an Asus infinity with FULL HD screen over this..

Oh not to mention twice the storage and MS office 2013 built in.

Folks Please understand that all Microsoft "RT" Tablet computers including the Microsoft Surface "RT" that just went on sale absolutely do not Run any full Desktop or Laptop windows programs. Folks. The New Microsoft Surface "RT" will run only the store tile style Apps Microsoft made a special version of office for their New "Surface RT" Tablet computer but it will not run Windows 2000, XP. Vista or Any windows 7 software because they were written to run on Intel or x86AMD CPU controlled computers. Windows RT computers use ARMS CPU.s which use different coded software. Microsoft and it's developer partners are now making Apps for the Windows RT tablet computers.be patient plenty of them are coming

Yes, because who would want a better display, better hardware all around, more apps, more accessories, and more features? The iPad has all of those advantages, thus it is clearly the inferior product. Oh, let's not forget that the 16GB iPad has less than 8GB of space difference from the 32GB Surface.
33. TheDarkKnight (banned) posted on 20 Oct 2012, 13:44 0 2
I assume you are saying that the new ipad is better and so I agree with you.
36. rusticguy posted on 20 Oct 2012, 17:39 0 1
I dont go by Select COUNT (*) of apps. I dont need it for watching movies or playing games. More of a tech so don't use these devcies for such non productive work and hence RT is far better than iPAD ...
17. ajac09 posted on 20 Oct 2012, 07:12 0 2
redhot because its sold out? no actual numbers or anything beyond a message on the page? Sorry but being sold out does not mean its popular. Till we have hard numbers. For all we know they only had 100k that could be pre-ordered . Once it hits the stores and starts to sell then we can gauge it. But I know I wont be one of them. Hope fully it is popular but I fear the ipad mini will kill it .

I believe I have decided to go for the RT since I am just going to upgrade my laptop to windows 8 and it runs well. I need something for school that can run office and be an entertainment center when I'm in between classes. I really hope we have emulator developers ready to make apps because I love playing my old school Super Nintendo games while waiting around.
22. techguy22 posted on 20 Oct 2012, 10:18 1 1
i love when people say this surface has a true OS. you MS followers dont know what RT means ?
24. TheMan posted on 20 Oct 2012, 10:49 0 1
People loved the first iPad, but there was clear evidence that most people wanted a Windows device that would replace existing hardware. I'm one of those. And MS delivers!
Just two and a half years later.
I'm not interested in the "light" version that is RT. Plus I'll likely wait before buying the full "Pro" version to avoid the inevitable h/w and s/w bugs (and the early adopter tax).
27. TheMan posted on 20 Oct 2012, 11:12 0 1
One more thing. I'm not scared off by the mixed Win 8 reviews. I do wonder if the interface translates well in scaling up from smartphone (where it's great, esp for beginners) to full screen (where it seems very, very cluttered)
28. xtroid2k posted on 20 Oct 2012, 11:24 1 1
The problem is people don't know what windows RT really is. All those pre-orders are for people who think windows RT is Windows 8. I see a major disaster coming.
31. xtremesv posted on 20 Oct 2012, 12:16 0 1
That's the problem when there are not professional reviews before the release of a product, people get misinformed. I'm still skeptical, for me there must be a reason why M$ has been tight lipped with their tablet

Ah yes, the "red hot pre order" story. I usually find that a red hot pre order story means interest is low. I'll wait for actual sales figures thanks.
