The tablet space is about to get a little more interesting.

11. -box- posted on 29 Nov 2012, 14:58

Agreed.

Great device, but I was hoping it would start about $100-200 lower. Well, honestly I was hoping it would be about $100 more than the Surface RT, but I knew that wouldn't happen. So /realistically/ I was hoping for $100-200 lower.

That said, still a good price. Same range as an Ultrabook, with a touchscreen, and great weight and size. Really shows off how much the mac computers are overpriced, and they don't even have (nor will they soon, more than likely) touchscreeens.

It is just a matter of time before the Mac computers get touch screens. Maybe the Surface Pro pushes Apple to include touch screens in the MB Air in the next refresh?

Anyhows, it is a matter of when, not whether.

I would love it if a Retina Macbook Pro had a hinge that goes all the way around and a touchscreen. That would an amazing tablet.

I have no idea what 2 write

27. wendygarett posted on 29 Nov 2012, 17:52 2 2

But dat price!!! Omg!!! I'll stick back to the rt version, poor me :(

34. DerryAhmad posted on 29 Nov 2012, 19:33 2

Indeed. But with that price? It's waay too expensive for a tablet.

I think the Surface Pro should be considered as an ultra computer rather than a tablet. Then, it looks more appealing. At $1028 (Surface+Type cover), it indeed falls into the ultraPC category price.

This "tablet" with 4hrs battery life, very heavy will not compete with "normal tablets".

This is a laptop in disguise.

2. anywherehome posted on 29 Nov 2012, 14:08 8 11

899? Expect failure like RT we anticipated.......
Microsoft has just decreased orders of RT...... when do you learn and sack all the management?

19. JC557 posted on 29 Nov 2012, 15:55 7

Why a failure? It's meant to be more than just a regular tablet, essentially a full PC in tablet form that's optimized for the platform yet cheaper than a MacBook Air. RT is still just as useful, productivity-wise, as any other tablet OS currently available.

28. wendygarett posted on 29 Nov 2012, 17:54 3

Rt version compete ios
Pro version compete mountain lion
Did you get the picture?

30. Non_Sequitur posted on 29 Nov 2012, 18:03 1 3

If Apple did this, they'd be in the same league as Microsoft because frankly, Mountain Lion is awesome. I'm starting to really like Mac computers.

32. wendygarett posted on 29 Nov 2012, 18:14 1 2

Yeah osx is awesome, but I started to get bored now lol

39. anywherehome posted on 30 Nov 2012, 08:35

Please, watch the sales numbers ;-)

3. OHaZZaR posted on 29 Nov 2012, 14:11 4 3

It's actually somewhat cheaper than the competition. The macbook air costs $999 but comes with 64GB RAM. Still, we bash apple for being way too expensive when microsoft is barging on their territory.

9. Commentator posted on 29 Nov 2012, 14:47 4

64 GB RAM would be nice! The Surface Pro has virtually the exact same internals as the basic Air, plus a better screen.

43. OHaZZaR posted on 01 Dec 2012, 06:14

Actually, it has more storage space, and i meant 64 GB ssd capacity, it actually has 4 GB RAM, my apologies :P Still, I truly despise windows 8, I was a huge fan of windows 7 back in the day, but right now it's pretty boring. I wanted a decent and portable laptop, quick boot-up (maximum 15 seconds to go from completely switched off to 5 tabs on my browser) an awesome keyboard and trackpad. I went for a mac and I have come across some frustrations, but nothing that made me regret my decision. This is coming from a windows 7 enthusiast. I still use my windows 7 gaming rig for what it's built for and I have absolutely no intention of getting windows 8. I also have a samsung GALAXY Note and the only phone I'd get over this one would be the Note II.

13. -box- posted on 29 Nov 2012, 15:03 6

lol, 64GB of RAM.... derp! RAM =/= hard drive capacity

42. OHaZZaR posted on 01 Dec 2012, 06:06

LOL my bad xD I know what I'm talking about :P 4 GB RAM and 64 GB SSD storage

4. darthinvader posted on 29 Nov 2012, 14:20 3

Looks good to me.. Finally there is something that can replace my laptop..

26. JC557 posted on 29 Nov 2012, 17:40

Personally I'll be waiting for the Lenovo Think lineup (not the IdeaPad junk) as I've had nothing but praise for the Thinkpads I've used over the years.

Still will take a good look at MS's Surface Pro offerings come next year since the Zune HD left a really good impression on me.

5. yowanvista posted on 29 Nov 2012, 14:27 8 4

Overpriced, anyone can obtain a better PC with dedicated graphics instead of that crappy lowly clocked dual core i5 with that underpowered HD4000 graphics.. Msft is adopting Apple's way of marketing with exaggerated prices..

8. haseebzahid posted on 29 Nov 2012, 14:43 4 1

is MACbooks not overpriced considering nothing but standard laptops and pricing over 1000$ and this is atleast giving more in return for less price then s**ty macbooks

14. xtroid2k posted on 29 Nov 2012, 15:04 3 1

what your forgetting is that apple sells a tablet which runs a watered down OS with limited capabilities. This is not only a tablet, its a full pc with full capabilities. So in my opinion MSFT just out did apple by not only doing one better customers will eventually see more value in the surface.

6. twens posted on 29 Nov 2012, 14:32 8

So finally its coming. I sold and saved the money I got from my iPad 3 just to wait for this beauty. Now I can have a tablet and a PC all in one. I just love technology. Thank you Microsoft. I have been dreaming of this from the 1st day I heard about the OG iPad.

7. bntran0410 posted on 29 Nov 2012, 14:33 8

I think people make the mistake in comparing it to other tablets when in fact it should be compared to an ultrabook or macbook air with a touchscreen. Pricing looks reasonable to me.

10. tward291 posted on 29 Nov 2012, 14:57

Preorders?

17. Droid_X_Doug posted on 29 Nov 2012, 15:36

Yeah.... More opportunity to buy toys. :-)

12. Johnnokia posted on 29 Nov 2012, 15:00 1

I would buy HP Envy X2 or Asus Vivo Tab... They are Windows 8 tablet PC and cheaper.

15. -box- posted on 29 Nov 2012, 15:12 1

Which is a great thing about WIndows: choice. This is essentially MIcrosoft's Nexus tablet: built and priced how they want it as a benchmark, and let the other OEMs do their own thing.

20. Bilpocalypse posted on 29 Nov 2012, 15:57 1

Neither of which is running an I5. Both are running atom processors which, quite frankly, stink... neither has a 1080p display... and I wouldn't wipe my a** with anything made by HP. I would like the Asus if it had a better processor.

18. nyamo posted on 29 Nov 2012, 15:46

$100 less and i would be sold on it. I'm just curious about battery life and performance. as much as i want to jump on a full os tab bandwagon i think i'll sit out the first round and wait for the price to drop

21. lauremar posted on 29 Nov 2012, 16:08

Memory size (RAM) out of the box? I'm guessing 4GB out of the box upgradable to 8GB or 16GB max?

22. tigermcm posted on 29 Nov 2012, 16:18

interesting how some are stating it should be priced lower comparing it to tablets when its more of an ultrabook without a keyboard like someone mentioned. you cant please every one. the pricing seems reasonable, if it were lower it would be right behind rt prices

24. gazmatic posted on 29 Nov 2012, 17:19

This cannot be compared with tablets. Its better. This is to compete with ultrabooks and mac airs.

25. _Bone_ posted on 29 Nov 2012, 17:38

I remember when you could buy terabytes for peanuts. What the hell happened?

31. Droid_X_Doug posted on 29 Nov 2012, 18:06

You still can buy terrabytes for peanuts. Just not in a Surface Pro. Maybe in a Surface Pro 2.0

35. zitibooth posted on 29 Nov 2012, 19:33

Solid State Drives happened... you want terabytes for peanuts you'll need to get a mechanical drive.

29. zitibooth posted on 29 Nov 2012, 17:58

Where are the tablets with 3G or LTE?! I heard about two of them back in October that were going to go to AT&T but frankly that's not good enough. If i'm going to spend $1000 on a Windows 8 Pro tablet it better have a wireless radio otherwise I might as well buy an ultrabook and use my phone's WiFi hotspot.

33. ElektronicGeek91 posted on 29 Nov 2012, 18:25

That's great, Im glad I didn't purchase the RT version just yet. I normally get things around the time they first come out, but I guess patients is a virtue in this case.

37. jove39 posted on 29 Nov 2012, 22:12

So its way out of tablet price range...hmm...anyway...It'll thrash any other tablet out there performance wise...will wait for reviews.

40. jibraihimi posted on 30 Nov 2012, 08:53

They should have priced both the versions $100 less, or to make it a good looking deal at this price point, they should have also thrown touch/type covers free with them.......... Hope they will do this by the time they launch this in January.......

41. MC1123 posted on 30 Nov 2012, 16:23

its should be launch this december! aqnd im pretty sure that it will eat all the tablet shares...
