Microsoft’s new Surface RT tablet has quite a splash on the market. By many accounts, sales seem to be going well

I was thinking the same thing. But gadgets are my weakness.... I may place a pre-order and before opening the box, will go to a MS store and play around with a demo unit.

If there were a fully-functional tablet I wanna buy for productivity, this would be my first choice. Unfortunately, at this price, you can get many powerful laptops.

Remember it'll have SSD not rotating disks...which are costly to start with and you'll get laptop with nice build like sony vaio with similar specs for similar price!!!
Performance and Quality will be two main features in Surface Pro

I OWN a Sony Vaio. With a blu-ray player!! Sure the Surface is nice piece of tech but I can always install Windows 8 Pro on my laptop.
Will wait till such tablets get more affordable.

€763 :-D :-D :-D
Microsoft is going to be very very disappointed again like with Kin, WP, ... :-D
the price!!! :-D :-D
the result? Microsoft will earn money in the same way like now but with lower and lower sales....because he is simply not able to compete in mobile, tablet industry.....so with the end of PC will be end of Microsoft as we know him now
so future = Windows just for work like for me now

I'd buy a Lenovo y580 with that money. SSD, gtx 660M, 8GB ram, i7-3310QM. LOL

No, you wouldn't; you'd pay 1.500$ for that configuration and it would weight about 3 kg.

Folks The Microsoft "Surface Pro" is a PC shaped in the form of a Tablet that runs full
flagged Desktop/Laptop or server legacy programs Folks The Ipads and the Android
Tablets and the New Microsoft Surface RT tablet computers Run APPS only from their stores. The surface pro's specs are Ultra book specs and folks Ultra books are not that cheap price them for yourself. that said I predict that Microsoft will sell their "Surface Pro 64" gigabit about the same price as the Ipad 4, 64 gigabit Wi-Fi model which is around 670 dollars on amazon. Microsoft wants their Surface Pro tablets to sell well so they should not sell their tablet above the Apple Ipad. but the Microsoft Surface Pro is Microsoft's Brand name product one you can trust to be around a long time and be heavily supported because it's also their Enterprise customers tablet and the Business Enterprise is counting on it working well and it will.

Yea, but it is still overpriced. I don't mind if it was around $700-$900. Just because apple is selling extreme overpriced products doesn't mean they have to do the same.

folks although the Microsoft "Surface Pro" is the best "Windows 8" tablet to buy to get the full impact of what Microsoft designed Windows 8 tablets computers to be. I think the Lenovo Lynx at 600 dollars is a good alternative as is also. the Lenovo thinktab 2 for 650 dollars are great alternatives because they are Windows 8 tablets and can run full size Windows NT, Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7 programs like the Microsoft Windows 8 "Surface Pro" Tablet computer can also do.

While its a great product, I would wait for a while before getting any Microsoft hardware. Microsoft is not a known hardware manufacturing company and we all know what happened with the first batch of xbox that was launched.

Um... Xbox. And also the Surface RT has been rock solid (literally).

Surface Pro?! No, thanks. the Sony Vaio Duo 11 is what I'm looking for!
22. Steve_C posted on 14 Nov 2012, 02:07 0 0
Have you seen the price on the Sony VAIO Duo 11's?
The i-5 version is (Au) $1,499 and the i-7 version is (Au) $2,399!!
Sure, you get ethernet with the Sony's - but, the keyboard is always a part of the machine - not detachable like the Surface's is... and I can't prevent myself wondering about the 'gap' that forms when the keyboard is pulled out on the Duo 11's... as in "what could get lodged in there or damaged in there"? Or worse!!
So; if the prices quoted in the article are "accurate" in the "pretty close" sense, rather than the "nowhere near close"guesswork sense, to what can be expected for the Surface Pro - I'd be leaning towards the Surface Pro, given the Surface has similar features to the Sony's, including a stylus (which is what I'm after for my art/design work using CS5 and Painter 12), 1920x1080 screen res for the HD video I shoot, is 64bit and just as connectable via USB.
I'm not sure the i-7 CPU option of the higher powered VAIO Duo 11 warrants the extra price premium, despite it's greater capacity to handle the creative tasks I'd be expecting out of my purchase.
The news of the 'price' in Germany for the Surface Pro, does lean the decision towards the MS offering that little bit more as far as I'm concerned.
