Microsoft Android hatemongering #droidrage campaign backfires, brings on the #windowsrage

0. phoneArena posted on 06 Dec 2012, 03:42

Microsoft has chosen an interesting way to promote its Windows Phone platform. First it was Nokia bashing Android phone makers, and now Microsoft itself tried to start an Android…

Once a big bowl of failure, always a big bowl of failure... at least when it comes to Microsoft

No, im not a linux/mac fan, I use Windows 7 primarily (XP before, because Vista blew arse), even have a Windows 8 desktop (of course, using StartIsBack and nuking the ugly and horribly crippled MetroPOS UI, all of the OS enhancements and none of the horrid Metro UI!)

6. pokharkarsaga posted on 06 Dec 2012, 04:03 21 1

Apple & MS just don't want open source to be their competitor.Because they are aware that open source has the potential to deliver more than closed source.

8. Non_Sequitur posted on 06 Dec 2012, 04:09 10 12

I've always liked Windows 7. It's speedy, easy to use, lightweight, and EVERYTHING is compatible with it. You don't have to go to Linux support forums every time you want a program. One click. Download. Boom.

51. RapidCat posted on 06 Dec 2012, 13:51

i think u need to see windows 8 speed. and its light. But metro UI make it worse. I test if for 3 days and back to windows 7

Your comment is a big bowl of failure served from a stewpot of failure that was cooked in a kitchen of failure.

You'd think they would have learned after the whole "smoked by a Windows phone challenge (or whatever it was called)" fiasco, but apparently not.

#windowsrage .. what goes around comes around.. big FAIL for MS.. i am a WP fan, but this time is Droid time.. Shame on you MS

3. redmd posted on 06 Dec 2012, 03:48 14

they should just improve WP 8 and its features instead.

27. Nathan_ingx posted on 06 Dec 2012, 06:39 9

Have to agree with you.
I don't see Google doing stuffs like this...they quietly update and improve their ecosystem.
Being a fan of Windows...this here is just lame, stupendous, baseless, thoughtless...i can go on.
I don't mind a fair battle, but this is just a cheap shot, getting Newton's law right back.
Real mature of you Microsoft, real mature.

"Truth is malware is not really an issue on Android"... And this is after a favoring Android piece by Ray S., which at least was not delusional. There's bias, then there's "you don't know what the eff you are talking about"

Victor H you are somewhere even below that.

53. Zero0 posted on 06 Dec 2012, 14:19

Strong assertion. Back it up. Show me the everyday users who are infected with malware.

Most who sideload apps know what they are doing, and won't have many issues. The average person is downloading apps from Google Play, which is quite clean. The few malware apps on the Play Store are probably pretty tough to find anyway.

I said this would happen back when they ran this campaign the first time. Nice to see karma smack these bitches right in the gob.

So long as they keep up with bulls**t like Droidrage, I'm going to keep away from Windows Phone 8 and avoid promoting it to customers. If Microsoft wants to try to gain customers at the expense of disingenuous fear mongering, I'm going to give a little back to them.

19. darac posted on 06 Dec 2012, 05:46 5

Spot on, pal.

Now just want WP8 to fail even harder that WP7.. they deserve it, both for their half assed effort, and this kind of attitude.

16. kanagadeepan posted on 06 Dec 2012, 04:44 2

This is anyway expected...

17. ogy_dogy posted on 06 Dec 2012, 05:24 2 9

Lol, "more mature one". Than why does my droid tablet crash every now and then and my lumia doesnt?

20. darac posted on 06 Dec 2012, 05:52 6 1

Because your Lumia OS has less capacity than some feature phone OS'?
Let's just see how Microsoft stacks up with Google when they implement all the android features in WP.

Oh and because you use a crappy tablet?
How come my S3 NEVER crashes?
How about a pile of Lumia 920 crash reports?

25. ogy_dogy posted on 06 Dec 2012, 06:33 3 4

m8 having a shi.load of useless features doesnt make a os mature. its a dual core 1.6 ghz 1gb ram tablet, i think windows 8 would run perfectly on it, not to mention wp. and you must have a special s3, the display unit in local tmob store crashed the same moment i opened the browser. so i was like fu.k no! all in all i like using my android tablet but its anything but not a mature os.

28. darac posted on 06 Dec 2012, 06:42 8 2

How much space W8 takes up?
How much space WRT takes up?

Android is a much smaller software package, yet packed with features.
Again, let's see when M$ makes something like that and then we'll talk

30. protozeloz posted on 06 Dec 2012, 06:49 3

Bam there goes dinamite

34. SleepingOz posted on 06 Dec 2012, 07:42

You nailed it, dude! haha

38. ogy_dogy posted on 06 Dec 2012, 08:19 2 7

What does the size of the os have to do with this? Fact of the matter is that android is unstable on 99% devices and wp is not, and neither is w8. And dont kid yourselves w8 crushes android in features but thats not my point. Wp is not a perfect os but android isnt either, not by a long shot... haters gunna hate..

40. darac posted on 06 Dec 2012, 09:00 3 1

You are missing the point.. windows 8 wouldn't even fit in your tablet haha. And it would be a battery hog that would require an Intel processor.

I'm not saying android is perfect, just that everything has it's pros and cons.
There's a reason why WP tends to be smoother and why android tends to be less stable.
The point is, you can't have the cake and eat it, and it's really not fair to bash android based on comparison with a completely different, far less flexible product.

Even bashing it based on your personal experience seems off .. because my experience with android has been really fine for two years now.
Yeah I lied about the crashes on my S3! It crashed ONCE in three months.
And yeah, a lot of users apparently reported problems with WP8. So?
Let's just be objective here

43. protozeloz posted on 06 Dec 2012, 09:48 2 1

Windows 8 crushes android in features? Bitch please? Also where you get that there are no issues on windows 8 ? And where is that 99% static comes from your behind?

46. coraphise posted on 06 Dec 2012, 10:30 1

I love all the comments... and I was just planning to read through, but your comment intrigues me.

Android is unstable on 99% of devices? I don't know if that's true or not, but do you know where I see unstable Android? Virtually every damn phone, BECAUSE carriers and manufacturers feel the need to introduce crap that doesn't need to be there. Sure, they mean to "enhance" the phone, but they usually fail.

I've had a Droid for the past few years, and I don't care what contracts or agreements say, I will root every droid I have and install a custom ROM. Once that's done, assuming the ROM isn't some sort of beta still and I don't mod it myself, no issues whatsoever. All because the people that make that ROM give enough of a crap to make sure it runs right.

I've had 3 Windows Phones too (yay work!) and I haven't had issues with any of them; I know that's not always the case though. The difference is that if I do have an issue with a Windows phone, I have to return it to the carrier for a replacement or buy a new one, because I have yet to find information on unlocking my Windows Phone without paying Microsoft to be a developer.

56. jroc74 posted on 06 Dec 2012, 16:46 1

"Fact of the matter is that android is unstable on 99% devices"

Thats the cue for everyone to not take this guy serious....

He must mean 99% of devices running Android 1.6...Android and the hardware has gotten better over the years.

31. protozeloz posted on 06 Dec 2012, 06:50 4

What useless features you talk about dude?

37. ogy_dogy posted on 06 Dec 2012, 08:15 1 4

Face unlock, voice commands, live wallpapers, need i go on?

42. protozeloz posted on 06 Dec 2012, 09:46 3

Why is face unlock useless? Is faster than a password and cool..... Live wallpapers are fun, you ever seen them? You just jealous, voice commands? Are you serious dude? Then why MS has is own set of voice commands then? Voice is the future deal with it

You are just jealous you might need to wait a whole year to have some of those features fully operational on your bloated storage blogging useless OS witch won't even update you like all those 7x users sorry I don't see how windows phone is better than android

55. jroc74 posted on 06 Dec 2012, 16:43

When he said voice commands were useless...lol.

44. protozeloz posted on 06 Dec 2012, 09:50 2

And yeah go on, I want to hear the rest of your so called useless features list

45. SleepingOz posted on 06 Dec 2012, 10:27 2

LMAO! Really? Go on! Cm'on is that all you can do?
Also these features are still more than you limited WP8 has to offer.

49. Whateverman posted on 06 Dec 2012, 10:57 2

You've gone off the deep in my friend. Unstable on 99% of all devices??? You could have gotten away with that 3 years ago, but the truth is Android is the most stable OS currently on the market. I haven't seen a forced close in two years now.

18. Edmund posted on 06 Dec 2012, 05:28 1 7

So what do android fanboys do ?? Respond with something that has absolutely nothing to do with Windows Phone 8. Yeah, real clever guys (lmfao...)

22. jroc74 posted on 06 Dec 2012, 06:13 4 1

At least Android folks are coming with more truth than MS. How can they respond about Windows 8? It hasn't been out long enough.

21. Tsepz_GP posted on 06 Dec 2012, 06:05 8 1

LOL!!!! Hahahahaha!!! :'D
The best part is Google and the other OEMs havent even bothered to even try responding, they know their Androids will sell regardless, while MS and Nokia continue to struggle.

This #Droidrage campaign was bound to backfire, im just suprised it happened so quickly, great work Microsoft! :)

33. SleepingOz posted on 06 Dec 2012, 07:36 2

"When you can't beat them, trashtalk them!"

23. jroc74 posted on 06 Dec 2012, 06:19 1

I am a fan of their desktop OS's, running Win 7 now. About to be done with XP. They really need to worry about making their own products better instead of the trash talking

35. amozhi posted on 06 Dec 2012, 07:56

I expect Android (Chrome + Android) to be released officialy for desktop. This is the right time for Google to release Android for desktop.

If that happens, M$ will be in real trouble...

48. coraphise posted on 06 Dec 2012, 10:35

You're probably right when it comes to using machines in an office environment, accept for a couple things:

1. Microsoft has been around so damn long it's become engrained in people's minds. Apple comes shortly after that.

2. Games - no matter what you think, right now most games are geared for Windows Operating systems.

If more people become willing to try alternatives, we have a better shot at seeing better products from all companies.

Regardless, bashing your competition was the wrong way to go Microsoft. :(

36. gazmatic posted on 06 Dec 2012, 08:02

windowsrage makes no sense.. windows headache is a better term... again... if you use xp your opinion is irrelevant

57. jroc74 posted on 06 Dec 2012, 16:56

Do you develop software? If not I think you saying someone's opinion is relevant or not based on one's OS preference is irrelevant. And juvenile. Even if you dont write software saying that is irrevelant and juvinile.

Some ppl wrote software for XP and might not have the time, money and resources to make sure it runs just as good on Vista, 7 or 8. Maybe makers of older hardware havent got the time, money or resources to make drivers for Vista, 7 or 8.

Some businesses might not need to upgrade to Vista, 7 or 8. They might not be connected to the internet, be in a very secure environment so they dont have to worry about bugs, security issues in XP.

If you think technology is one size fits all...your opinion is irrelevant. You might as well be an iPhone fanboy thinking like that.

50. zippolite28 posted on 06 Dec 2012, 12:30

Windows mobile was a power to run android and linux ... they could have modified same to tails or what ever ... but thay did a closed os and they are really closed .... just my pov ;-)

52. larrylawr posted on 06 Dec 2012, 14:16

I never see microsoft adding any new functionality to their OS ever! The ribbon interface for windows explorer, the new taskmanager, and the fast boot up should all be available as a service pack for windows 7. Google would do it. MS won't! Always gotta pay with MS!

54. Bilpocalypse posted on 06 Dec 2012, 16:06

You're talking about two completely different business models. MS makes money from software. Google makes theirs from advertising. MS needs to sell a new version of Windows every 5-7 years to turn a profit. Google turns profits by getting you to invest in their ecosystem (google, gmail, etc) so they can advertise to you.

58. MC1123 posted on 06 Dec 2012, 22:18
