Although the Meizu MX4 is already out in select markets and the device is, by all means, a powerhouse of its own, the manufacturer behind has surely not settled for the time being. Rumor has it that Meizu has at least one additional version of the MX4 in the pipeline - the MX4 Pro. What we know so far about the latter is pretty compelling - Quad HD display, octa-core Samsung Exynos chipset, 3GB of RAM, probably a fingerprint scanner, 20MP rear camera/13MP front-facing camera (you might have some competition soon, HTC Desire EYE), and the mythical Ubuntu Touch powering the handset.

Well, it seems that Meizu might be testing yet another version of said device, this time running on e-commerce giant Alibaba's homemade Aliyun OS (YunOS for short). Said variation of the device got spotted in the wild, and its boot logo clearly reveals what's powering it - YunOS 3.0, a Linux-based platform that incorporates the Android runtime, which is (to some extent) a close cousin to both Android and Ubuntu Touch. It is said that Meizu and Alibaba will hold an event on October 20, at which the YunOS-running Meizu MX4 will officially break cover. The alleged price of the device is roughly $293.

Of course, this doesn't mean that YunOS is, in fact, the mysterious "stunning new OS" Meizu hinted about more than months ago. The manufacturer is popular for experimenting with the full range of hardware and software options available. If the rumors are to be believed, Meizu has been testing a wide range of chipsets (Snapdragon, Exynos, Tegra, MediaTek) and mobile platforms on its devices, the custom CyanogenMod Android build, Ubuntu Touch, YunOS, and its home-made Android firmware, FlymeOS. In the end, however, it's not yet known what final combination of SoC and OS will make it to Meizu's future devices.
