Mass production of Apple iPhone 7 underway at Pegatron?

We are probably close to three months away from the release of the Apple iPhone 7. Apple has ordered as many as 78 million units, according to an earlier report. These handsets don't appear by magic, so manufacturers need to have a long lead time to fulfill orders. With that in mind, tipster @OnLeaks sent out a tweet this morning stating that the iPhone 7 has slowly started mass production at Pegatron.

His tweet also confirmed an earlier rumor that said production of the Apple iPhone 7 Plus would be done solely by Pegatron rival Foxconn. Both contract manufacturers will assemble the iPhone 7.

As the days roll on and more and more iPhone units roll off the assembly line (see what we did there?), the number of leaks will start to increase exponentially. One of the latest rumors that we passed along claims that technical difficulties have forced Apple to abandon the idea of using a dual camera setup for the iPhone 7 Plus. If true, this wouldn't be the first time that Apple has been forced to make a change to the iPhone so close to the start of production.

Two years ago, Apple was reportedly all set to use sapphire glass for the Apple iPhone 6 and Apple iPhone 6 Plus. Apple even worked out a deal with a sapphire company called GT Technologies. Problems with low yields doomed the project, and GT eventually declared bankruptcy.

Now that mass production of the iPhone 7 has allegedly started, the number of leaks should rise exponentially. If your summer daydreams include the purchase of your next iPhone, check in often.
