ha ha ha omg. of coarse its a guy with no insurance thats phone "explodes".
heres a thought, dont buy three hundred dollar phones... get insurance moron.
35. chupum (Posts: 115; Member since: 10 Feb 2009)
It's not that he's seeking compensation for his phone, but he's seeking compensation for any medical bills he may have accrued from the phone improperly working... So I guess I'll conclude by saying that you're the moron for not understanding the article.

Also know that there is a big portion of America that still lives without health insurance and are still making 50-60k / per year... It's called the middle class. And saying that the guy was stupid enough to get a $200 phone over getting insurance is just absolutely ridiculous and should be slapped for poor logic. Health insurance costs tens of thousands of dollars per year if you're not insured by your job. And you're saying that an extra $200 in your pocket is going to offset insurance?! Stop being a hipster and try to pay your own insurance. See how easy it is then. Bunch ingrates out there! ugh.

If you are making 50-60k/year then not having insurance would be a choice.
Also it's very unlikely the phone exploded. This guy is the James Sikes of the mobile world.
47. curtisblow (unregistered)
In regards to your take on health insurance. I have health insurance I have a deductible, which I finally met for the year. It's December, which means even with my insurance I'm still paying out of pocket when I go to the doctor. Most doctors, at least every one I've ever been to, have allowed me to set up payments. This is how it goes. And I agree that the man should probably prioritize. Insurance first, then a damn phone. This isn't an issue of logic. This is an issue of a man pouring money into a monthly cell phone bill, rather than a monthly insurance premium. Chupum, your "logic" is foolish and your estimate for annual insurance costs is ridiculous.

"Health insurance costs tens of thousands of dollars per year if you're not insured by your job".
In no way is this a correct statement. Shop around and don't buy a plan with a super low deductible. I think what the person who made the comment about getting insurance before buying an expensive phone was getting at is not that $200 is the difference in having or not having health insurance but rather making a point about peoples spending priorities. 69 dollars a month plus a 30 dollar data plan, and whatever extras like texting a other add-ons, could translate into a fairly decent health insurance plan for a white male in peak condition like our bleeder here.

I can see it now....."quick honey....get me my phone!!"
3. hawk62 (Posts: 320; Member since: 21 Nov 2009)
He is just waiting for the POS in the whitehouse to insure him on my hard earned dollar. But like the last guy said he cant afford insurance but has a $200 phone with a $100/month plan!
11. saneok (Posts: 77; Member since: 01 Oct 2009)
that is fucking bullshit. insurance is very expensive and you have to pay every month! this phone you can buy only once and then pay 30 $ for the data plan. That is affordable. I am sure millions of americans have smart phones and don't have insurance. I am one of them.
and i personally believe the guy. I don't think this is a scam and i think he shouldn't pay a dime for his medical bill.
12. narley (Posts: 357; Member since: 14 May 2009)
wow buddy you need insurance so you can see a therapist for this misplaced rage you have here...
22. Stoli89 (Posts: 333; Member since: 28 Jun 2010)
It's apparent that his private insurance doesn't cover mental therapy.
37. chupum (Posts: 115; Member since: 10 Feb 2009)
I'm a physician and I believe that narley is absolutely blind to the realities of America. Sit in your corner with your B.A. in reganomics, play with your smart phone and leave the politics to those who have a true higher education.

you already pay it due to your ever increasing insurance premiums. might as well get them coverage so that you or the company you work for can have more affordable insurance to give to its employees. that way people like me who work for a small business and want health insurance dont have to do a $1500 co-pay b4 insurance kicks in on an 80/20 split (plus paying almost $300 a month of it)
38. chupum (Posts: 115; Member since: 10 Feb 2009)
Hawk, seriously, if you don't like the management of a company, you always have the option of finding another job. Same goes for your citizenship. The reason why this "POS" is in office is because you and your way of thinking didn't get up off your ass and go out and rally support for the other guy. So don't think slinging insults about our president is going to win you any sympathy. You're just as responsible for our president as we are. Stop bitching!
And your taxes are the price to pay for living in any society that protects god given rights to you and every citizen in that country. Shut up and pay your dues. If not I suggest you pack up your bags and live somewhere else. Besides. The U.S. has one of the LOWEST income tax rates in the world!

thats a serious case of "I need money for X-mass" exploiting cellphone with not fault on the battery? and... damage cause my the screen cracking? this is by far the dumbest attempt to scam a company... did he hammered down the phone with his head? maybe that way he can get stitches... and seriously... your phone will shutdown before it reaches the temperature needed to make the glass explode... with unharmed battery i really pity him
31. XxVerbalxX (unregistered)
already got a phonecall about this working here at a verizon dealer. had to talk someone off the ledge on returning due to fear. battery didnt explode plus thats gorrila glass. he hit the earpiece with a hammer and used the broken glass to cut his face. hey moto, google, and vzw...couter sue the jack ass
6. chris (unregistered)
why did the guy drive to his wifes school to take pictures rather to hospital.. it just shows you they planned this accident and had nothing to do with the phone.
7. hawk(dumbass) (unregistered)
how about they can't get insurance b/c of a pre-existing condition?? moron hawk go F ur self u dumb hick! probably banging ur moma right now w/ ur cousin waiting...
8. Zoo (unregistered)
Nice, Hawk62. Can't agree with you more about the POS in office. if you noticed in the video, the alert light still went of, which means the battery still works = battery didn't explode. Nice try. but considering their position... SCAM
9. Mattihafler (unregistered)
Sure looks like he grew a second head (fatboy) in between accident and news report...
15. Preach2k (Posts: 10; Member since: 30 Aug 2010)
This is how it really happened!!!!!! You spent our rent money on what !!!!? A Cell phone!!!!! Let me see it!!!!! SLAP across the face and ear with the Droid 2. I can't take it back now you broke it when you hit me with it!!!! i know how to fix it we will say it exploded while talking to you on the phone!!!
17. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
i'm pretty sure an explosion that made him have to get stitches and even happened at point blank would have trashed the phone a little more than just some cracking on the display. xD
18. protozeloz (Posts: 5321; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
yep we know he wants some $ but i guess he miscalculated the thinks, but who knows maybe he didn't wanted to damage his droid that much, juts in case the plan failed... he can still use it XD
19. blablabla (unregistered)
I'm not sure there's any mechanism at that specific point on the device that could cause the sort of explosion that would lead to his injury. Perhaps preexisting damage to the screen from where he sat on it and never realized it until he crammed the phone into his ear. Seems like a scam from this point of view.
20. blablabla (unregistered)
After watching again I realize that this white trash couple is out for a scam.... is she now an advocate for the protection of children against angry smartphones " people buy these for their kids..." really? One (1) alleged case and now she's the FCC ... telling parents to not buy them.... and going after Verizon? That's like going after Target after purchasing a defective item from them. They DO NOT make these products. And why ... if he panicked would he drive to the school for her to take photos? And why is this being reported as if they know he's telling the truth... they even get the name of the phone wrong.
26. protozeloz (Posts: 5321; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
I bet they have nothing better to show and decided to play the "game"
*insert anti iPhone fanboy joke here*
*insert generic joke related with Steve jobs*
just for the lols
32. XxVerbalxX (unregistered)
*the glass on my iphone only cuts me when i drop it a foot or so first*
*according to steve jobs it was adobe flash that caused the explosion. it is that unstable. html5 would of just caused facial burns*
21. anjahl (Posts: 7; Member since: 03 Oct 2010)
the device would have shut off before it got that hot. unless hes rooted with a bad rom/ overclock kernel
23. Android (Posts: 17; Member since: 04 Dec 2010)
Please!! I really doubt that hick knows how to overclock his phone. He would probably think the kernel is the old man from the KFC commercials.
24. Junior (Posts: 52; Member since: 09 Jun 2010)
I would love to see a follow up to this story. I want Motorola to pwn his ass.
27. ridiculous (unregistered)
Look at the amount of blood that is on the guy's face compared to the phone. Are you telling me that the few shards of glass that possibly came off that phone caused him to bleed that much?!? Looks more like he smacked himself in the face with his phone. The screen doesn't even look like it exploded. Ridiculous.
33. Sniggly (Posts: 6468; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
What's fun is that yes, exploding glass faces have happened. On iPhones. Multiple cases, all confirmed, I believe. Likely caused by previous damage, but still. And now we have one case of a probable scam by an idiot.
39. InspectorGadget80 (unregistered)
Man this guy probably uses his phone way too much. That's the problem right their just want to make some money.
41. Treeko (unregistered)
I find the story to be fishy, but comparing a phone bill to paying insurance is stupid. And if you get the phone on contract, you don't have to pay much. $96 per month for a phone is a lot more affordable than $200 - $300 per month for insurance. I have a cellphone but no insurance. Infact, I have the same phone this guy has, except mine doesn't explode.
42. halcyon (unregistered)
This is a joke! The guy broke his screen and then put it to his ear and cut himself. Only after 2 days of having the phone, he knew he did have phone insurance and it would have been pretty expensive to replace so most likely fabricated this exploding phone story along with his school teacher wife then instructing parents not to allow children to have smartphones. This guy is lame!
43. Infil (unregistered)
How did the screen take an impact from the outside? Look at the pictures thats a hit to the front of the screen. No burn marks on the phone...and btw, the battery on these phones is quite a bit under where the incident happened. I call a BS flag on this.....why was he on the phone driving to work anyway..isnt that illegal?
44. chester1908 (unregistered)
I hope you are aware that there are a LOT of sh!t in these smartphones.antenna for Gsm,3g,wifi, radio, gps and whatever. Who knows which of these components is placed near the speaker. Some new phones even have sensor near the speaker to detect when your ear is "approaching" so they turn of the screen light (and turn back on when its not near).Maybe that part broke down, who knows. Its not good to say "he lied,he should have bought a health insurance" etc. This guy just having this accident may as well have saved some one else's ear or worse
45. chupum (Posts: 115; Member since: 10 Feb 2009)
Wow! I didn't take a look at that video until now. And you can see fragments of the screen depressed inside of glass. If the force had been exerted from the phone, should shards of the screen be out of the area of the explosion? hmmm it sucks that this American has no health insurance, but it sounds like he is trying to gain some money by scamming people... fishy!
46. hicksshouldnthavephones (unregistered)
first off, this guy is a fat redneck moron. secondly.. he probly cant read let alone use this phone anyways. and third... if you dont have insurance your a deadbeat loser. I have been in the cell phone business my whole life, and i have never EVER heard of a phone blowing up in someones ear with 0 batter damage.. let alone this phone. The motorola droid 2 is a beast. and if you look at the picture.. it doesnt even show any glass that fell from the so called "explosion" this a-hole probly fell off his horse after an afternoon down at the local watering hole and smashed his phone with the side of his stupid hollow ass head ...
i hope moto does a full evaluation and makes this guy pay for making them look bad and exploiting his own stupidity ...
people in this country are rediculous!!!
and if you side with him your rediculous as well!!!
this is just like toyota.. people crashing their cars to get compensation because of the media.. i wonder how many more iditots are going to complain of their droids blowing up in their faces?
49. vinsterdamus (Posts: 58; Member since: 20 Feb 2010)
oh man you guys have it bad in the US. In my country we have healthcare for everyone. I just pay about 100 euro's a month and that covers almost everything.
"Health insurance costs tens of thousands of dollars per year" That's just sad. So why are so much people agains the unified healthcare plans? /totally off topic
50. Mystery Man (unregistered)
Hmmm. Doubt it, doubt it, doubt it!! Looks like someone smashed him in the head with his own phone which is what someone should do. I thing its bogus and I think the guy is making up a story in his own little world. Why would the phone explode but then remain fully functional. I've been directly involved in the wireless industry for over 15 years and I have never seen a phone create this much damage. And what about pain? He claims the phone went pop and then he suddenly realized there was blood running down his face. No painful sting, or burn inside his ear along with hearing loss or ringing? Yeah, like I said...Bogus lawsuit looking for some cash.
