Mac designer says Apple is not an innovative company anymore
0. phoneArena 12 Sep 2013, 18:42 posted on
Apple has millions of loyal fans around the world, but more and more ex-Apple employees are being increasingly critical of the company and its direction in the newest post-Steve Jobs era. We've already seen former Apple director, and current Oracle CEO Larry Ellison intimate that he expects Apple to fail without Jobs; and now, the man who helped Jobs design the original Mac is saying that Apple is not an innovative company anymore...

True Story! I love all things tech, but Apple is just disappointing now. Rehashing old product and pawning it off as a "new" device just to make a sale. Sure, every company is all about the money... but you have to admit, Apple is just so damn greedy.

"Cant innovate anymore my @$$" says phil sh!ttler.. lol

You are very correct... Apple is so so so greedy.

and they never were innovative.
53. dmckay12 (Posts: 243; Member since: 25 Feb 2012)
Very true. Creating the Graphic User Interface, a line of MP3 players that anyone can use, an online music store that has more music than could ever be listened to, smartphones that everyone can understand, and tablets which allow more productivity than phones while being more portable than laptops offering similar functionality were clearly done before to as great of an effect. Oh wait...
62. maysider (Posts: 38; Member since: 11 Aug 2013)
They just increased size of buttons and removed features
Still just outdated icons
No default mail or browser app
A very dumb phone
67. dmckay12 (Posts: 243; Member since: 25 Feb 2012)
I never said that the 5s or 5c was innovative. They aren't. It is one thing to say that Apple is not currently innovative, and a whole other thing to say that they never have been like inspectorgadget did. They clearly have been in the past. Like it or not android would be a lot different today if the iphone never existed. BTW just because the default email client and browser can't be changed doesn't meant that they don't exist. Just because you, me, and millions of others prefer android doesn't mean that history has ben erased.

All of those to make tablets actually usable for everyone, not just for Windows geeks that should use a stylus to operate tablets in pre-iPad era. I think you're the one who brainwashed by Apple haters.
69. maysider (Posts: 38; Member since: 11 Aug 2013)
You're just nicely brainwashed if you think that phones or tablets are different just because of Apple
It's just the competition responsible for the fast development in the mobile sector
We don't need Apple and the other companies involved e.g. in the ebook price fixing robbery and patent trolling (again Apple)....they just harm the market
70. sennarose88 (Posts: 54; Member since: 18 Jun 2009)
Every thing has it's good and bad. I post the good (on how Apple started the tablet craze), and you seems unpleased and then replied with something unrelated. Brainwashed, isn't it?
71. dmckay12 (Posts: 243; Member since: 25 Feb 2012)
Have you seen the android running prototypes from before the iphone was announced and compared it to the final product? If you have, you wouldn't make such an idiotic comment. Competition from other companies made phone what they are today, but it took more than 2 years for there to be an android phone that could compete with the iphone #ogdroid.
72. maysider (Posts: 38; Member since: 11 Aug 2013)
Nicely brainwashed and idiotic mind
The answer: iPhone= stolen LG Prada design, WM6, Symbian without features
Don't need Android as an argument, Apple is the biggest thief among IT sector
45. Martin_Cooper (Posts: 1364; Member since: 30 Jul 2013)
Samsung releases S4 which looks 99% same as S3 with new internals. Not hates, apprised by all android she..eps, full of bloatware, 16gb version has only 9gb free. Still lags in some rare occasions. Apple releases new iphone 5S that looks 99% same as iPhone 5. New internals, great new features(fingerprint, better camera, bigger battery, new iOS, new cpu/gpu, new better LTE. Hated by android fans as being same s**t as iPhone 5.
47. Just.Saying (Posts: 132; Member since: 04 Apr 2013)
The galaxy S4 is not an exact copy of the S3. There are differences like the larger 1080 display for one. Sure apple threw in a finger print scanner but for what!!!!!!!! if i was getting mugged then i'd prefer to lose only my phone rather than them taking my phone and chopping my fingers to take with it. in the words of Leonardo de caprio ----TIA-----This is africa. (Blood Diamonds)
56. Martin_Cooper (Posts: 1364; Member since: 30 Jul 2013)
Yes because the first thing thief's do is to take your phone then unlock it then tell you ok now you can go. If you were ever unlucky to get your phone stolen it happens quickly and they dissapear. And having fingerpting makes it almost impossible for them to unlock. Unlike with code. So think before you write. They added finger print to unlock and pay online from app store easily and quickly, new improved camera, 720p 120fps video recording, new LTE that supports over 100 lte technologies around the world, so far the best LTE added on phone in terms of compatibility, new cpu, new gpu, big new update to OS, bigger battery. If this is not enough for you then you should stick with android and its laggy environment.
57. RebelwithoutaClue (Posts: 2569; Member since: 05 Apr 2013)
So now thiefs will knock you out and put your finger on the phone, or worse chop your hand off. People can unlock your phone when you vast asleep or passed out. And the police now can easily ask you to unlock your phone, since fingerprints don't fall under the 5th amendment.
So think before you write.
61. good2great (Posts: 1042; Member since: 22 Feb 2012)
you people are stupid for thinking crime will escalate to people getting knocked out or fingers cut off for an iPhone...
thats idiot man...
a thief's whole plan is "not to be seen or caught"...
you guys are dumb as hell.
66. johnbftl (Posts: 280; Member since: 09 Jun 2012)
You're absolutely right. Fingerprints don't fall under the 5th amendment. What does the right to refuse to give incriminating testimony have to do with police searching your phone? I'd assume a fingerprint scanner would fall more closely under illegal searches and seizures amendment to the Constitution, which is the 4th. If you would have paid attention in the most rudimentary civics course, you would know that. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, a lot of states have declared it unconstitutional under said 4th amendment for officers to obtain access to personal electronics devices without a warrant.
So think before you write.
59. matrix_neo (Posts: 334; Member since: 03 Nov 2011)
Obviously you're 100% wrong in saying 99% s4 look same with s3. Did u think 1st iPhone 5 design before posting that comment? IPhone 5 and iPhone 5s look 100% same, that's why they add "s" for same. Obviously also apple needs only your money without improving it's products for customers to be satisfied. They are sure ish33ps like you will still buy it because it's from apple. Samsung as well as other oems continue to innovative every year to satisfy their customers. Google and oems don't set any limits for their products, they think for customers satisfaction, apple thinks another way around, they only want profits. Don't say you like also android, in your comments, you bluntly insulting it while praising so much of apple. Accept it you're an itard also, just don't make any excuses.
52. Martin_Cooper (Posts: 1364; Member since: 30 Jul 2013)
EXTERIOR is 99% same S3/S4. Read what I written, I said internals are new. Same thing does Apple and it gets your hate. When Sammy does it its called innovation. Not my fault that you are all android sh-eps. I love iOS, i admire WP8, I like android. Unlike you I am open to all OS as long as it fits my lifestyle and needs. You will eat any cr-ap that Sammy throws at you. Not me.
55. Martin_Cooper (Posts: 1364; Member since: 30 Jul 2013)
Did they release the specs on battery? They didnt. They said it has larger battery and I trust them cause EACH year every new iPhone has few more hours of battery life.
63. Penywyz (banned) (Posts: 255; Member since: 13 Aug 2013)
Yeah besides the fact that the S4 had a 13 MP camera instead of an 8.
a 5" 1080p display instead of a 4.8" 720p one
many more motion features including answering the phone without touching and video pause by looking away: not going to list them all.
Ton's of new camera features and shoot modes, including a video mode that allows you to use both cameras video at the same time not going to list them all.
The ability to use the phone as a remote for most major TV providers.
A 2600mah battery instead of a 2100mah one
1.9 quad-core instead of a 1.4
The ability to support LTE advanced speeds
But yeah, Samsung definitely did the same thing as apple... I can see where you got that...
Same camera with a new name and a double flash
64 bit processor that does nothing because the phone does not have enough RAM to support it. 4GB RAM minimum to get any effect out of it
A fingerprint scanner that has so many stipulations to work its not even funny... And honestly whats the point?
I'm shocked they didn't move the headphone jack again, last years move about blew me away
Same screen and same screen size...
I wonder if the 5C or the 5S will have true 4G on all networks not just at&ts in America, because I still haven't seen anything definitive in regards to that yet...
But I can totally see where you got confused on all of this. Easy mistake that anyone with phone knowledge would make. Do you drive a Prius with apple stickers on it too?

Mojo left the building.

I don't agree with that.. When the 3G/3GS Acame out it was pretty f'ing great Then 4 came and was also amazing...
17. Googler (Posts: 813; Member since: 10 Jun 2013)
I would give them the most credit for the iPod. Not only was it the device that saved Apple, it took MP3 players to another level. There wasn't much in MP3 players at that time but Apple had something solid with it.
28. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
But then the letdown that was the 4S was released, which removed any doubt that Steve was having to focus on his cancer treatments more than the iPhone. When all of the problems with scratches in production and bent chassis for the iP5 came out, I was wondering how long before Timmy dictated a plastic iPhone.
Apples mojo has definitely left. I wonder how uninspiring will the iP6 be? One more year until that question gets answered.
42. ardent1 (Posts: 2000; Member since: 16 Apr 2011)
Apple will always be a letdown in the eyes of haters.
For the educated, we known despite everything the haters write or voice: Customer satisfaction is the number #1 metric to compare products. Add to the fact since Apple products are so damn expensive to $99 android devices, the hurdle is now much higher for Apple to please it's customers.
The difference between me and the iHaters is I read the reviews of android devices. Since I've taken Econometrics at the graduate level, it's really easy for me to spot which android devices are just duds.
The math and reviews continue to support that Apple continues to deliver despite the ongoing onslaught of vastly improved android flag ship products. Again, it's one thing if Apple is beating the pants of android devices runnning android OS 1.6, it's another thing when nearly one-year-old Apple devices beats the pants of android 4.x products.

I've had firsthand experience with Apple's commitment to customer satisfaction. Long story short, sent my ipod in for repair got it back, lost my content and when I went to sync it with itunes, it no longer recognized me as the legitimate owner. After week of sending me links to their support faq (which I had already tried, I was told to redownload them on my dime. Their product malfunctions, I lose access to media I had already paid for, and they want to double dip on something that wasn't my fault. Up until that point I was planning on getting an iphone when it came to Verizon, but their commitment to customer satisfaction lost them a potential sale for life. I ended up with android after not being impressed with the BB Storm2. Now I'll buy a hard copy of the media I want if it's not available through Amazon, but I will not deal with Apple or itunes again. The sad part is the amount I lost was around $100. If they would've let me redownload the content I lost they would've made more off me through further content and app sales, but they were more worried about fleecing me rather than keep a customer long term.

"For the educated, we known despite everything...."
Why don't you just cut to the chase and say it, you think you're better than everyone here. Sometimes you do post some good comments but your delivery is so condescending, most people won't even give you the time of day.
36. AfterShock (Posts: 3698; Member since: 02 Nov 2012)
Yup, they set the world on fire with the first few.
Now some are just catching on err never mind.
Though I agree, they set a better bar at one time.
5. fanboy1974 (Posts: 1345; Member since: 12 Nov 2011)
I do find it disturbing that Apple is promoting the iphone 5c more than the 5s when you visit their site. It's like Apple prefers to sell more plastic iphone 5 models than flagship devices just to make more money off old technology. Just look at the pre orders for the 5s; there is none. They don't care about high end anymore.
18. Googler (Posts: 813; Member since: 10 Jun 2013)
Probably a higher profit margin with the 5C.
29. fanboy1974 (Posts: 1345; Member since: 12 Nov 2011)
Higher profit margin for Apple. Less innovation for customers. I would actually pay a premium for a feature packed phone with larger screen from Apple. But no. They rather rehash a year old model with plastic and colors.

even apple users are saying apple doe sent innovate as much as they used too. Go androd, take over the word
43. ardent1 (Posts: 2000; Member since: 16 Apr 2011)
As android takes greater marketshare of the smartphone universe, it only means there will be more android users switching to the Apple Ecosystem.
The simple fact is there are more users that switch from android to iOS than the other way around, respectively. Food for thought.
65. Penywyz (banned) (Posts: 255; Member since: 13 Aug 2013)
Please feel free to provide facts to back up this statement.
I don't understand how a company that is losing market share could be converting more customers than it's number one competitor.
11. YaBoiDre10 (Posts: 84; Member since: 15 Nov 2012)
The Android Vs iOS argument is officially over.
12. Quezdagreat (Posts: 428; Member since: 05 Apr 2012)
No one is innovative anymore. Not Apple, not Microsoft, and not even your precious Google/Android. They just purchase things other people made and put it in their products
14. darkkjedii (Posts: 19157; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
Well said everyone including apple is maximizing current tech. The next true wave of innovation is a couple years away, as hardware allows for it. Everything rite now is evolutionary. Even Sammy is just taking the next logical steps, and to me they're the most innovative company rite now. S-Pen gestures evolved into air gestures. Give it 2-3 years and it'll be speech based gesture. Talk to zoom, talk to power off etc. Sammy's talk to snap pics is a sign of what's coming.
24. softfurryanus (banned) (Posts: 232; Member since: 09 Jul 2013)
... Maybe it's just me but I hope to god that's not the direction things are going. Voice controls just aren't that great, they are good to have, but "The next big thing?" I don't think so. I don't see people really wanting to talk to their device that much... same reason I doubt Google Glass will sell well.
On the other hand I hope air-gesture starts getting popular and other OEMs begin to implement it with their skins.
26. darkkjedii (Posts: 19157; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
Air gestures are sweet, and I also wouldn't do much talking to my device. +1 dude your screen name has me rolling man.

Google created Google Now from the ground up. They hired the staff necessary, but they didn't purchase it.
23. HansGoneInsane (unregistered)
So did Apple in its early days. But that time is over. Same for Google. The point is, that radical innovations come discontinuously and suddenly. Like darkjedii said: right now, there is only evolution because the radical innovation takes its time to come and the last radical one (iPhone 1) wasn't that long ago. I assume we need to wait another 10 to 15 years until the next big thing arrives. Everything else until then will just be evolution like adding features, improve features etc..
27. darkkjedii (Posts: 19157; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
Yep agreed as far as radical goes, you're exactly right. +1
13. promise7 (Posts: 844; Member since: 03 Jul 2013)
w/o steve jobs i don't see apple going anywhere but down. they would've still been upset by android even w/ steve jobs because android is just too big and spreading too fast for them to stop, but if he was still here he could've at least kept apple a float. they'll release new products and _tell_ the consumers they r "innovative", but they'll just be new products for the sake of being new, like the overhauled mac pro.
16. darkkjedii (Posts: 19157; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
How about you innovate a new way to diss apple, this has been done/said before, like an "overhauled Mac Pro".
25. HansGoneInsane (unregistered)
People can't expect Apple or any other company to bring radical innovation (products that haven't excited before) every 5 years to the market. I think people are a little spoiled by the introduction of the iPod, iPhone and iPad in the last years. But what many people don't understand is that all these three products are basing on each other and are logical deductions from each other. They are like the offspring of the same family of technology. The next radical innovation will emerge from a complete new technology. But I think that Tim Cook is not right person for discovering the new radical innovation. Steve Jobs had the balls to risk something, whereas Cook is more of an administrator. That works as long as the next big thing is far away and cannot be seen on the horizon yet.

Lol that makes it worse. There's nothing appealing to him since the 80's

Woz hasn't done much with tech lately but people still hold his opinions high. This guy's legacy speaks for itself, you just missed it.
