Liveblog: Samsung's announcement of the Galaxy S IV
The time has come! Samsung is about to announce the Galaxy S IV at a loud event in New York City, and you can be sure that we'll be there to enjoy the show live (and to get the chance of playing with the new device). As you might have seen, we've posted the official webcast of the event, but if that's just not your thing, or you're simply looking for a laid-back liveblog coverage, you've come to the right place!

The event is scheduled to begin at 7PM ET | 6PM CT | 5PM MT | 4PM PT | 11PM GMT. Just hang around and the updates from the event will start to populate the liveblog below!

Live event tracker

18:59And that's a wrap, guys, thanks for being with us, don't forget to check out our GS 4 coverage on the site!
18:58
18:58It seems like the show's about to wrap up. Everyone's coming on stage to take a bow. I always cry in such moments...
18:56
18:56But "the Samsung Galaxy S 4 will never be a replacement for a doctor." So keep that in mind, guys.
18:55S Health will utilize the GS 4's numerous sensors to give you tons of health-related information.
18:53Air Gesture - a feature set that allows you to execute certain actions like scrolling, image swiping and so on...
18:51ChatOn will now support video calling with up to three people.
18:51
18:51
18:50Group Play connects a number of GS 4s and plays the same song on all of them.
18:49A total 6 very loud women have come up on stage to demonstrate the GS 4's Group Play feature.
18:47Samsung KNOX, Samsung's new safety feature set will make its debut on the Galaxy S 4. Hear that, professional users?
18:46The Galaxy S 4 can detect presses even when you're with gloves! Like the Lumia 920.
18:45The Galaxy S 4's S Voice can read your messages and let you reply by voice.
18:45"Safety is a big concern for us because we know that people always have this urge to read their messages as soon as they come in."
18:44"You can transfer [data] from almost any phone with any OS to the Galaxy S 4."
18:42Apparently, Samsung has optimized S Voice to be suitable for in-car use.
18:42"Once I'm in my car, S Voice takes over."
18:41Samsung's HomeSync cloud storage service is of course support, so users will be able to take advantage of that.
18:40Samsung will also ship you paper versions of your albums - for $10 to $30 a piece.
18:39
18:38Story Album feature: an automatic album creator. You choose a cover, name, and template, and the GS 4 does the rest.
18:37Another feature - Sound and Shot, captures a short sound clip when you take a pic. Then when you view the pic, you also hear the voice note!
18:36You enter your phrase in one language, and the phone speaks it in the other.
18:35There's a new feature in the GS 4 - S Translater, which works like those real-time translators.
18:31
18:30Imagine that! Now the pictures from the show won't be super cool. How sad. :( But don't worry, dad said he'll get a GS 4 after the show!
18:29Here's the short story: a little girl who's dancing at a school show or something, but dad doesn't have a GS 4 with 13MP!
18:28
18:28Some of Broadway's "best performance" will be invited to the stage to take part in the unveiling.
18:272600mAh removable battery inside! That's one beefy battery.
18:27
18:27The GS 4 will ship in 16, 32 or 64 storage variants, and all will feature 2 GB of DDR3 RAM.
18:26Main camera will be 13 MP, front one - 2 MP.
18:25
18:25Samsung wants to convince us that the GS 4 has a "totally new and upgraded user experience", but the UI looks largely the same.
18:24
18:23The Galaxy S 4 is 7.9mm thin.
18:23
18:22Ryan Bidan, Director of Product Marketing for Samsung Telecommunications America is now on stage.
18:22The design seems to be almost the same, though they have refined it a little.
18:22"Thank you very much for your time!" And JK Shin exits the stage, and we're left with a video demo of the new handset.
18:21Galaxy S 4 will launch at the end of April.
18:20"But with everything that the Galaxy S 4 can do, does it fit into your life with style? Absolutely!"
18:20
18:20
18:19
18:19"A life companion for a richer, simpler life - ladies and gentlemen - the Samsung Galaxy S IV!"
18:18"What we'll show you tonight is the result of all this. It's innovation that will change the way people live."

!!! Here is a new idea why we may still didn't saw a real Samsung Galaxy S IV !!!

When I was looking at the leaked Samsung Galaxy S IV videos, I have noticed that front part of phones body is a bit transparent and looks like a glass fiber material or something like that. Sometimes manufacturers use such materials for test units and that may mean that leaked images and videos still may be just of an prototype and not the real Samsung Galaxy S IV design...

So, what all you think about my conspiracy theory??? :D

I hope those leaked pics were of the refreshed GS3 that was rumored a few days ago; it called for a bigger battery and an improved display which kind of matches the pictures.

Also, the leaked pictures had an earpiece, whereas the pic from Samsung of the upper half of the GS4 doesn't.

they really need to ditch that and come up with a decent desgin,gs3 design was pretty lame compared to other offerings on the market.
sammy stop behaving like apple!! iphone 4,4s,5. designs are practically the same.
you need to refresh the design every year sammy!!!

I think it'd be better if they FAIL this time around. So that they would know where they f**ked up. And in turn fight back with a really mad device. Like what HTC did. If I own a GS3 or a Note 2, I would definitely NOT upgrade to this one. But if I own a Droid DNA, I'd easily sell it to buy the One.

So, mayday for Sammy.

Only thing about this that I'm really interested in is to see the actual design. The original leaks seemed to have more rectangular corners and so do the cases that have already leaked. These recent leaks look too rounded to match up with the originals. I would think that with Sammy in the middle of wanting to Re-Brand the company, then coming with a completely new design on the most anticipated smartphone of the year would be a big step towards that. However, I am inclined to believe the article posted yesterday about the S4 being the last phone to be born in the iPhone's shadow. All that said, this release could have some hints of what to look forward to in the Note III, which is the device I am really psyched about!
