LifeProof announces FRÈ cases for Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+
LifeProof is among the high-end manufacturers of mobile cases and accessories, known for their pricier but elegant and uncompromising products. The company has just announced a new FRÈ case for the hot and steamy Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. The flagships were officially unveiled this week and will hit shelves on April 21, and we bet you are already thinking about S8 accessories. You are, aren’t you? Well, so are we!

FRÈ is LifeProof’s most heavy-duty line, offering superb all-round protection to your phone, without making it feel bulky at all. FRÈ is also the company’s hottest selling range and wraps your phone in Military Standard 810G-516.6 armour that should withstand a good amount of drops, fumbles, bumps and what not. The display is completely protected from scratches by a virtually invisible front layer that fully retains its functionality and visibility.

Even though the company’s site doesn’t explicitly say it at this point, we would expect that LifeProof would use the same sound-enhancing tech they put in the FRÈ iPhone 7 cases, which boosts your phone’s audio output to allow you to make calls and listen to music with the case on. Nonetheless, the FRÈ case completely seals the phone, while keeping the USB and headphones ports accessible (headphones adapter comes in the box). Like we said before, the case seems comparatively slim for the level of protection it delivers, and also maintains full access to buttons and controls.

The case rocks IP-68 rating, where 6 and 8 are the highest ratings for solids and liquids. You can submerge your Galaxy S8 in 2 meters for up to 1 hour and not worry about snow or ice damaging it. In terms of weight, the S8 case will add only 35.8g (1.26oz) to the phone’s 152g (5.36oz); and 41.7g (1.47oz) to your S8 Plus, which normally weighs 173g (6.1oz). Both sizes are currently advertised to come in 4 colours, typical of LifeProof, and all units sell at $89.99. We doubt that the company will stop with 4 colour variants, given the amount of fresh options available for last year’s flagships.

LifeProof hasn’t given a date of when the cases will become available to order, but you can subscribe to receive an email notification. We don’t reckon it will be before the 21st of April, when the handsets go on sale, but this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t spend three weeks of daydreaming.

Order when available at Lifeproof.com
