Lenovo passes iPhone in Chinese market

Lenovo isn't a company that we think of in the US when it comes to smartphones. At most, Lenovo is a PC company that also has some cheap Windows 8 tablets in the works. But, in China, Lenovo is getting pretty big in the smartphone market, bigger than Apple actually...

i think it comes down to the fact that chinese buyers will not buy an expensive iphone a) because they do not have the money and b) because there are so many knockoffs and other cheaper options… if apple were to release a cheap cheap iphone then marketshare would be different-- but then it would not be a status symbol, and apple needs to fill that "latest and greatest" niche

Ive seen bootleg iPhones and they are Joke, so I REALLY dont think they are buying the knockoffs over the real deal (were not talking Luis Vutton purses here) The differnce is actually hilarious.
Some countries just have other trends. In south america the Blackberry is still king and nobody knows what an HTC is.
Lenovo is actually a very reputable company overseas. Its no wonder why IBM bought them. I wish they were more popular in the US

Both iPhone and Lenovo are overpriced...
But why Chinese prefer Lenovo instead of iPhone?

WOW. that actually makes a LOT of sense. thanks for posting.
I remember when I traveled in Colombia I had to swap sim cards on my phone because there are areas/cities where only 1 carrier works, and you go to another city and have to get a SIM for a different carrier. I noticed a lot of people with DUAL SIM phones because of this
of course you have to pay twice as much for 2 services but in those countries service is much cheaper, so it works out.

Asia is a different Turf and it's mostly Samsung the leader in all segments (smartphones/feature phones etc) in China and India.
