Leaks-based Moto G2 teaser and new photos sum up the major upgrades of Motorola's next budget phone

0. phoneArena 26 Aug 2014, 01:52 posted on

Word on the street is that Motorola's September 4th event will see the announcement of several important devices that the now Lenovo-owned company will use to reinforce its positions. Among those are the high-end Moto X+1, the Moto 360 smartwatch, and, of course, Motorola's next budget solution -- the Moto G2...

Moving up to 5" is a completely unnecessary and wasteful move IMO. 4.5" is a great size for a mid-range phone because it uses less battery power and has a higher pixel density than a comparable 5" panel...

You do realize that increase in display size also yields more room for increase in battery ? They're not that stupid to just increase the display without increasing the battery size. The current Moto G already has a great battery life. Motorola phones always provide great battery life.

Also, many surveys point out that ppl prefer more 5 inch panels as an ideal size then ever.

Well, I didn't consider that. But bigger battery + bigger display = bigger cost, so I'd still prefer it if companies made the batteries and displays a little smaller, so they could focus more on performance, camera, etc. That's just my opinion...

8gb should never be used in today's smart phones. Its just too small. If 8gb is used then at least put a micro SD expansion on board as well like the moto g LTE.

Since they slimmed the bezels, they could've done 4.7". Actually Moto G is the same size as the Moto X, despite having a smaller screen. Because of the bezels. But they seem to have fixed that. 4.7" is where they should've stopped.

Also, coming with last year's processor, and not upgrading to a Cortex A53 processor is utterly disappointing. Deal breaker for me.

If this priced anything near the original Moto G then it will be the best budget phone. My only gripe with these specs is 1GB RAM. I think 1.5 or 2GB could've been added since RAMs are not to expensive.

not the best as it is using outdated snapdragon 400 .. they should have gone with snapdragon 410 and 1.5 gb of ram .. the competition is providing bettter specs and configuration

Too bad most Chinese phones don't support 1700/2100 AWS for T-Mobile. And even not many for USA GSM bands

So together with the next-gen Moto X+1, they managed to make an otherwise stellar design language into something with no design sense can come up with. Bravo Moto!

Minimalistic for sure, but to me it still carried that simple yet elegant Moto look I learned to love all these years. The new Moto smartphones are looking way too "toyish" for their own good. More in-line with Mattel than Moto methinks lol.

The leaks in the article look almost the same as the original Moto G, just with front speakers.

The contours are almost the same, but the hideous speakers completely ruins the flow of the design.

So this will have "better" specs than the Moto X? Exept for the RAM.
2Gig RAM would be nice.

BATTERY LIFE, BATTERY LIFE, BATTERY LIFE! Thee most important upgrade they can make. Current one has a 2070mAh battery. Needs, at least a 2500-2600mAh. Of course a 3000 would be a home run, but not likely at this price point.

I have just realized that Moto can sound LG-ish...

What to expect? Err... Perhaps SD410 and 4.6" 720p, 8MP Camera, 2400mah etc. Should be a steal IMHO.

I actually like the design that they are running for the device. The one thing I am happy about is that it has a SD card slot meaning that I can do a bit more than I can on my Droid Ultra right now.

Moto has a good track record on battery life for their devices as long as they are not abused on charging them so this would be a good buy for me that I can have to switch out for my current device when needed. Will have to get this one when it comes out for sure.

Still this can't beat redmi 1s.
Why they didn't go for 1.5gb ram or sd600. Dyum that sd600 is so good but everyone seems to neglect it.
