Finally some more news about Nexus devices. But talking about Samsung Galaxy Nexus 2 I'm not very excited since Samsung used to use OLED based screens. :(
Anyway glad to hear some news about the Nexus devices and waiting for further news about the other Nexus devices. :)

Current rumor is that the next Nexus will be made by LG.

Google themselves stated there will be multiple nexus phones on multiple manfacturers. Most recently rumored, LG, HTC, and Sony.

Yes, I know about that just waiting for more details. :)

OLED screen is the main reason I buy Samsung phones.

It was the reason for me when choosing the SGS VS IP4 at that time.

i guess it goes up to personal preference. I dont like OLED screens...

@jjjsong
In my opinion at the moment OLED based screens has more disadvantages than advantages and those disadvantages are pretty essential.
But yes, everyone is free to decide what is better for them. :)

16. jjjsong posted on 03 Oct 2012, 17:53 4 1

Yes, they both have their pros and cons. I suppose I just care more on the pros side of the OLED screens rather than their cons.

For what I can think of top of my head:
- OLED screens have 0 light bleed issues since there is no separate light source behind/on the edge of the screen.
- true black leading to more saturated and vivid color with more contrasts.
- currently having difficulties to produce smaller subpixel units thus resulting into using pentile screens on high ppi displays.
- colors are not as natural as IPS displays.

For my usage, I don't care about it being less natural but I do care more about the vivid and contrasted coloring since they make things look more beautiful and sharper.

Pentile is pretty much the only issue that I can think of but it's not as visible in high ppi displays. I'd rather not have to feel any light bleed on the screen (you can really tell the light source being there after switching over from an oled to a regular LCD).

This is just my own opinion.

I remember long time ago I was Googling and found two big forums with vote polls in both forums voted really big number of Samsung Wave (S8500) users and in both polls ~30-40% users was claiming that after 3-4 month they have noticed 'Burn-in' effect. ~30-40% in 3-4 month it is really big numbers in such short time.
And today we can find more and more Google results about 'Burn-in' effect.

In my opinion there is four main OLED based screen cons:
1) Really short lifespan (due to organic compounds degradation).
2) Can not handle intensive "working load" and it expressed as 'Burn-In' effect (also due to organic compounds degradation).
3) Colors are not natural.
4) Relatively not so clear and sharp images.

Here is example of 'Burn-In' effect on Samsung Galaxy S III (watch in FullHD !):

You also can find more examples of OLED based screens 'Burn-In' effect just Google or search on YouTube.

Burn in happens in all displays unfortunately. You can find a lot of examples of IPS screens burn-in (or just LCD in general) by googling as well.

Here's 1 on the front page -http://macperformanceguide.com/blog/2012/20120623_2-MacBookPro-Retina-screen-burn-in-ghost-images.html

Short lifespan is not much of an issue anymore (you can read more herehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OLED). In addition, even if we're still in the old times, the worst case is 5 years with an average of 8 hours of usage. I don't usually stay with 1 phone more than 1-2 years. So this is really a non-issue to me.

For the colors not as natural, I already talked about in the previous post.

For relatively not as clear or sharp, OLEDs are known to produce sharper images. The reason why you may think it's not as clear or sharp is probably due to the pentile subpixel arragenment.

"Burn in happens in all displays unfortunately. You can find a lot of examples of IPS screens burn-in (or just LCD in general) by googling as well."

LCD can get Burn-In effect just because liquid crystals through long time affected by the same voltage (without movement) can get static load and stay in the same position for some time but
the difference between OLED and LCD Burn-In is that LCD's Burn-In effect is not permanent while OLED's Burn-In effect is permanent.

"Short lifespan is not much of an issue anymore..."

Actually it still is the issue because noone still has improve organic compounds which are used in OLED. They have improve matrixes and used other "tricks" but hasn't improve main element - organic compounds.

"In addition, even if we're still in the old times, the worst case is 5 years with an average of 8 hours of usage."

It is only theory in real life it is much shorter also depends on various conditions.

"For relatively not as clear or sharp, OLEDs are known to produce sharper images"

Watch this video an you will understand what I mean by saying more clear and sharp images.

Ok, just Google and look how much you will find smartphones with OLED based displays and Burn-In effect and how much smartphones with LCD based displays and Burn-In effect...

And enyway as I have said before LCD can get Burn-In effect just because liquid crystals through long time affected by the same voltage (without movement) can get static load and stay in the same position for some time but
the difference between OLED and LCD Burn-In is that LCD's Burn-In effect is NOT PERMANENT while OLED's Burn-In effect IS PERMANENT.
Also OLED based displays can get Burn-In effect much faster than LCD.

2. nak1017 posted on 03 Oct 2012, 16:27

Honestly I kindof hope that Samsung Nexus 2 phone isn't the nexus phone, or atleast isn't the only nexus phone for this year. The specs are not that far above what's out now and LG's phone is looking pretty good (despite the LG part).

3. timtimity posted on 03 Oct 2012, 16:27

Can't wait to see the next Samsung Nexus phone. Wonder if it'll be mentioned when Samsung announce the (rumoured) S3 mini next Thursday.

4. jan25 posted on 03 Oct 2012, 16:37

come on Google, i can't hold on to my money for long. the Note II is very tempting and i am now having second thoughts.

5. imkyle posted on 03 Oct 2012, 16:41

LG just announced that AT&T and Sprint will be getting the LG Optimus G so that's a no go for the Next Nexus.

8. maxican16 posted on 03 Oct 2012, 16:52

Why not? Samsung released the SII to everyone but VZW, who ended up holding out for the Galaxy Nexus. Maybe the same thing is happening here?

6. VebbX posted on 03 Oct 2012, 16:43 1 1

Google, you don't get my money if you don't impress BIG TIME ;)

7. maxican16 posted on 03 Oct 2012, 16:50 4

Don't believe the Nexus 2 hype!!

PA is fishing for hits there. The original tipster commented on the Droid-Life post they found this from, and stated that is what they call their screen protector for the Samsung Nexus S, which was the 2nd Nexus.

10. iconic123 posted on 03 Oct 2012, 16:57 1

Im not interested in sammys new nexus, am hopin to see htc and lg nexus devices, and plus iphone nexus(ios with out those cube icons). Lol

This might come with exynos 4.

18. GoBears posted on 03 Oct 2012, 18:02 1

Well I won't buy LG or HTC so I'd be game for a Sammy Nexus 2. I'm waiting for the Nexus 10 on a tablet.

29. PapaSmurf posted on 03 Oct 2012, 21:49

I personally prefer HTC's build quality over any other OEM, including Samsung.

That's just me.

my god, windows smartphones are facing some tough competition this holiday season:

galaxy s3, one x, iphone 5, optimus g, galaxy note, one x+ and the new 4 or 5 nexus phones!

i'm so sad for nokia.

25. The_Innovation posted on 03 Oct 2012, 19:49

So the Optimus G was not a Nexus, as it is officially announced for Sprint and AT&T. Maybe the LG Nexus is similar to the Optimus G?

Regardless of who makes the phones, I'm the most excited about the possible reveal of Android 4.2. God knows what it will have.

lol...iOS 6.
