Leaked images of the Motorola DROID BIONIC show a subtle redesign and more

Meticulously looking at the handset, one can see that it’s sporting a new redesigned chassis that’s modified versus the one we all first spotted back at CES. Additionally, we now see it flaunting a sizable 8-megapixel auto-focus...

well there it is. it doesn't look quite ready enough for prime time yet and surprisingly this is not the "Targa" o:

well it certainly doesnt look special... and does it have a 4.3, cause that doesnt look big enough...

Not quite. It is.. but it isnt. It is a GSM "upgrade" technology but it does not use GSM tech. If it were a true GSM technology, VZW wouldnt be able to be using it as it wouldnt be compatable with their network.

i'm aware of that remixfa, get off my jock man.Verizon still uses CDMA for it 3G network but 4G LTE is still GSM, that's all i'm saying.

Verizon is Using CDMA for Voice, later on VoLTE(Voice over LTE) for Voice, making Verizon a GSM/CDMA operator but not right now (until the LG Revo. is released). Also EVDO rev A (CDMA) for 3G Data but LTE(GSM) for 4G Data. There stop b_tching :)

well the LG Revolution is already out and i was just at a store the other day and i asked if it did actually launch with VoLTE and they said it's not present on any of the 4G phones at this time.
41. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
They are still working out the hand off kinks between LTE and CDMA.. Its not going so well from what I understand, so It might be a ways off.
And trust me, i have no interest in underdeveloped jock. :)

actually you are wrong here in Minnesota they run both a gsm and a cdma network. the GSM is left over from the Alltel merger and covers most of the rural part of the state. they can operate both no problem. Now that does not mean that my cdma phone will roam onto the GSM svc because you are correct they are not compatible just like am and fm

Can't wait to get this one whenever and however it is finally released. My original Droid has just about had it!
5. Sniggly (Posts: 7290; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Huh. So the Targa is still on the table. FAYI, Motorola has repeatedly announced that the BIONIC is still on track for a summer release, so this could happen as early as next month.
6. Sniggly (Posts: 7290; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Wait a minute...is it just me, or does the bottom of the "BIONIC" in this picture look like the phone has two parts/is a slider? I think this is just the Droid 3.
8. nb2six (Posts: 298; Member since: 27 Apr 2011)
i was thinking the same thing. if it's just a cutout lip at the bottom that really makes no sense lol
9. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
i really doubt that. it probably just has some chin action going on. the Droid 3 won't have LTE.
10. N.Reynolds (Posts: 257; Member since: 15 Feb 2011)
That is very possible otherwise it could be just a lip at the bottom like the HTC Thunderbolt has.
19. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
its just the bottom bezel for the screen. why they didnt just make the whole face a screen, i dunno.. maybe so it doesnt look like a large galaxyS phone?
23. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
um, why wouldn't they have an aesthetically differentiating feature on the phone? the screen is still 4.3" the rest of the face is only a matter of taste.
7. nb2six (Posts: 298; Member since: 27 Apr 2011)
yep definitely not the targa it was assumed to be. 8mp on the rear vs. the 13mp first rumored however, that doesn't even matter since the lens tech isn't fully up to par to take advantage of the extra mp yet. Looking forward to owning this as soon as it comes out.

I think this phone is going to have 4 inches instead of 4.3 inches. >=(
Why Verizon? Why? Because you want the people who like big screens to buy the Droid X2? Verizon, I don't like the Droid X2 because It don't have front facing camera and also it don't have at least 768MB RAM. I prefer something better.
12. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
nooooo, pretty sure this is still 4.3". the Droid 3 is 4.0".
24. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
the whole phone is different. they've probably just been moved down to lower positions than they were on the Etna.
13. Sniggly (Posts: 7290; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
No, if it has a 4 inch screen it's because 4 inches is a great balance between great screen size and usability by those who don't have monster hands.
15. LuisE24 (Posts: 11; Member since: 03 Aug 2010)
I see, that's good especially for girls, but not for people who like big screens.
21. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
its not the screen that normally makes it too big, its the damn bezel around the screen. Check out the difference between the galaxy and the galaxy2. The galaxy2 ups the screen size but keeps near identical phone dimensions because they reduced the bezel at the same time.
26. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
i personally like the 4.0" displays better myself but that's where having the Droid 3 at that size comes in. the Bionic should be 4.3" just like the Flagship phone should be.

I keep hearing everyone saying 4 inches is a great balance. balance to whom. 4 inches for a screen is as small as they should make them for web browsing. I def do not have large hands and have been using the droid x almost 2 years now and love it. Infact i would love it even more a little bigger. It all dependas how they shape a 4.3 inch screen. example the chagre and x are both 4.3 yet the charge is way to fat and annoyin to use in my opinion. if the bionic isnt atleast a 4.3 then ill still be waitin for a phone i like to come out. why does ti always seem the best phone never come to vzw we just hear about some great ones then we wait forver till they dont even come. give me a evo 3d anyday ill be happy. even if i never use the 3d feature the overall stats on that phone are amazing. Only downfall is you havre to be opn sprint. You wonder if they do this on purpose so the crappy companies get some play as well lol.
25. jwl3429 (Posts: 36; Member since: 28 Sep 2009)
the droid x came out in may of last year it has only been out for a year!
27. iami (unregistered)
you may be right but with all this talk the past few months of a bionic coming out and gettin pushed back it feels like years ., lol
32. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
actually it seems the Qualcomm processors being used in the EVO 3D and the Sensation aren't really living up. the EVO 3D might not be as fast as some others out there. xD
20. kingjr243 (unregistered)
it's a big difference from the one at CES hopefully the specs didn't drop of anywhere
28. Allday28 (Posts: 275; Member since: 19 Nov 2010)
Is it just me or does that look exactly like the droid 3???
29. luis_lopez_351 (Posts: 951; Member since: 18 Nov 2010)
Ahahaha at first i thought the phone was the camera and the silver border in the third picture, i was like Finally a new design, but then i seen picture number 2 and i was devastated that was only part of the phone.
33. jroc74 (Posts: 5540; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Looks like the phone has 2 speakers? Should help with loudness. The speaker on the Droid X is weaker than the one on the Droid 1.
34. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
i was wondering about that too but then i wondered what good it would be to have one in such close proximity to the Camera. o.O
35. thedude888 (unregistered)
I compared the video demos of the Droid 3 and this clearly has a different camera and different back plate style. It also appears to have less dead space around the screen.
36. RORYREVOLUTION (Posts: 3072; Member since: 12 Jan 2010)
I will give them credit, this phone looks a lot nicer than the original Bionic. Also what's up with the new Motoblur? It's not the same blur as the one found on 2.3 droid x or droid x2. So we are getting another new blur? If it works even better than the one found on those other devices then hell yes.
BUT I still am going to wait and hold out for the Samsung Galaxy S2 for Verizon. From what I have seen, that phone is amazing.
38. RORYREVOLUTION (Posts: 3072; Member since: 12 Jan 2010)
I doubt it will, I don't think they would be foolish enough to put bling on such a high end superphone.
The Revolution was the weakest of the three LTE devices for sure.
40. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
yeah, i wouldn't appreciate it having Bing. it kind of sticks out on a Google OS. the Revolution is probably the fastest Single Core phone out now but that's not as impressive as it once was in a world with the G2x and GSII plus there was all of the other things wrong with it that were pretty much all stated in PA's review.
39. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
actually i believe i can explain, this might be the reason the Droid X2 launched with Froyo because Moto intends to do include more extensive features to their revision of Blur for their more powerful handsets. the version we see above will probably be ran by the X2, 3 and Bionic while the X, 2, Global and Pro will run the more simpler revised version we've experienced first hand.

Why do these morons keep trying to sell cheap shit on a phone site? This is a phone info site, not a cheap shit site

The pictures that they originally showed of the Targa looked sweet, now the pictures of the Bionic/Targa just look like the Bionic looked before they cancelled it.
