I'm considering putting the 2.3 gingerbread on my captivate, is it really any better?

Much better, however, you must uninstall and then re-install almost every app in order to get them to work.
Not too bad other than that other than the fact that not all available apps have Gingerbread support.
Some things have a tendency to force close and Super Manager still doesn't work yet even with the most up to date version.
Battery life is a vast improvement, lasts all day and trough the night sometimes, recharging every night is still a necessity.
Gingerbread doesn't freeze, at least not yet.
Rooting does work but only with Super 1-Click.
Camera app updated too to include a preview pane on lower right hand side similar to Blackberry Torch 9800 camera app.
Applications populate vastly faster than any other the previous OS's.

@Bill d**ken I noticed that you have I897UCKB1 Baseband,
I do have the same, but I couldn't find a good Gingerbread ROM for it.
but you have it for the UCKF1, did you see any problems?
did you download it from XDA?
I would be appreciated if you can tell me.
THanks in advance
