Leak suggests iPhone 7 will get a Mac Pro-like 'gloss black' variant

With Apple's special event now confirmed to be taking place next week, there's sure to be a surge in rumor and speculation. From what we can gather, there will be a new iPhone 7 alongside an iPhone 7 Plus in Gold, Rose Gold and Silver as we're accustomed to, while the Space Gray could be replaced by a darker, Space Black configuration. According to a speculative new report, seemingly backed up by a SIM tray leak, a fifth, 'glossy' black version could also retail.

It should be noted that the source of this leak — Japanese blog Mac Otakara — has a fairly decent track record when it comes to predicting new Apple products. Where the Space Black model is set to be a slightly tinted take on Space Gray, this purported glossy black model will supposedly be remnant of the 2013 Mac Pro, as seen in the image to the right.

Such a move would certainly prompt a change in direction from Apple. Cupertino's prized asset hasn't sported a shiny dark exterior since the days of the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s. Even though Mac Otakara does have evidence courtesy of the alleged SIM trays as seen above, we're still taking this one with a pinch of salt — at least until more evidence trickles through.

Still, if there is anything to this report, would you be interested in an iPhone with a finish akin to Apple's Mac Pro? Let us know in the comments.
