Latest speculation about the Sony Xperia Z2 calls for an April release date

0. phoneArena 23 Sep 2013, 14:02 posted on

Sony has run through a number of high profile, drool inducing, eagerly awaited Android models in the last year; we had the Sony Xperia Z creating a ruckus at CES as it showed the crowd how to take a dunking and still work. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra became the largest screened smartphone on the planet to-date with a 6.4 inch screen, and the Sony Xperia Z1 kicked off a new line of camera-centric phones for Sony with its 20.7MP rear snapper...

Only because the writer is confused. 5.2" at 1080p does not equal 506 PPI. Elementary error.

I don't understand how the pixel density is so high... The math does not add up.

Right, at 5.2" a 1080p screen is 423.64 PPI. Still more than adequate, but not nearly 506. Is there something about IGZO displays that add more pixels?

I mean, they could make the screen higher resolution than 1080p, but they cant magically make it be a larger screen at the same resolution...but have more ppi. Unless it is a magical screen or Sony let their slogan go to their heads, "Make believe"

Furthermore, there are no commonly used resolutions that come close to 506 PPI on a 5.2" screen, even considering for the virtual-button bar at the bottom, which means Sony would have to use some new resolution somewhere between FHD and WQXGA (Nexus 10's resolution).

If I had to guess (and I do), I'd say the 506 PPI rumor is wrong: it wouldn't make any sense to go higher than 1080p, which is already pushing it on smartphones.

That's realistic. In the meantime, Sony should figure out why it's smaller sensor produces better images on the Note 3 than the larger on the Z1, as proven here:

http://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/4551/4881230/1/rv/sony-xperia-z1-i1-Honami-review/

Something is not right, and I'm beginning to believe it's the water pressure resistant lens that produces the blurry results Sony's trying to compensate with huge amount of sharpening, especially in low light.

Exactly my point. 506ppi is an overkill. +1 for zuckerboy. Instead of pixel density Sony should focus to build best quality screen.

I was expecting Sony to bring me some smart gadgets (talking about photos), but I´m still disappointed, Z1 has poor performance (see gsmarena review) and QX10 is enormous to fit in my pocket so ... I´ll stay with my nokia 808 and my S3, the best of two worlds. Nikon is coming to fight Sony ! Just wait and see.

GSMArena mentioned that their device is not a final version of phone
I was surprised to see GSMA have done such a rushed review.
If you check this one you'll see that the camera on this phoen is a great one.

No device is final version. It took the HTC One 3 months to improve image quality to okay level, and some devices never see proper quality, see the Z1 which to this day cannot hold a candle to the S4 Octa.

Funny that given the Z1 has only just been released, I am guessing you meant to type Z! Even so I doubt your comment is based on actually owning the device (XZ) but more on preconceptions and bias......! *Sigh.....!

If the screen is 5.2", how can it have a pixel density of 506ppi if the screen is supposed to be 1080x1920...considering the 4.7" 1080p screen on the HTC One is only 468ppi. Man, that new IGZO triluminos display must be truly magical, either that or Sony is taking their slogan too seriously "Make believe".

Only missings for me in Xperia Z1 at the 4K 30fps and 3D 1080p Video recordings, then USB3 port for 2X faster battery charging, and of course a 4000VA battery would be better than 3000VA...
Must be a flagship Photo and Video phone, vs only Photo fo Z1 !
I bought my 3D TV after I bought my HTC EVO 3D that can register wonderfull familly pics and films in 3D HD. Now I need to buy a 4K 2D + 1080P 3D TV for my bedroom next year, I need a camera phone capable to record in both Top gun video formats. No way to drop 3D guys ! My familly loves it ! Must be 4K + 3D Video and add 3D Photos too. Please Sony !

Sony is pissing me the F%^& off. When in the hell is the Z1 going to be available in the US????

It amazes me how a company that truly has the means to outdo Apple and Samsung has a real poor marketing strategy when trying to compete with all the other phones out there. Whomever was the genius who decided that the Z1 should've been introduced in Europe first was a retard in the entire sense of the word when everyone knows that if you want to crush your competition, it has to be done in the US first.

LOL! Even rumors for the z1 before says it would have xenon flash..

but what they put? a tiny single led flash.

there is only one phonemaker in the world that is brave enough to put xenon flash on phone!
