0. phoneArena 23 Sep 2013, 14:02 posted on

Sony has run through a number of high profile, drool inducing, eagerly awaited Android models in the last year; we had the Sony Xperia Z creating a ruckus at CES as it showed the crowd how to take a dunking and still work. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra became the largest screened smartphone on the planet to-date with a 6.4 inch screen, and the Sony Xperia Z1 kicked off a new line of camera-centric phones for Sony with its 20.7MP rear snapper...

The only problem with Z1 is its size compared to the screen is too big

if u think Z1 fill your needs, is good enough for you, then get it, if you think something is not good yet, something is missing, wait.

April is a logical release date.
Its more than half a year after Z1.

Only because the writer is confused. 5.2" at 1080p does not equal 506 PPI. Elementary error.

I don't understand how the pixel density is so high... The math does not add up.

Right, at 5.2" a 1080p screen is 423.64 PPI. Still more than adequate, but not nearly 506. Is there something about IGZO displays that add more pixels?

I mean, they could make the screen higher resolution than 1080p, but they cant magically make it be a larger screen at the same resolution...but have more ppi. Unless it is a magical screen or Sony let their slogan go to their heads, "Make believe"

Furthermore, there are no commonly used resolutions that come close to 506 PPI on a 5.2" screen, even considering for the virtual-button bar at the bottom, which means Sony would have to use some new resolution somewhere between FHD and WQXGA (Nexus 10's resolution).

If I had to guess (and I do), I'd say the 506 PPI rumor is wrong: it wouldn't make any sense to go higher than 1080p, which is already pushing it on smartphones.

That's realistic. In the meantime, Sony should figure out why it's smaller sensor produces better images on the Note 3 than the larger on the Z1, as proven here:

http://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/4551/4881230/1/rv/sony-xperia-z1-i1-Honami-review/

Something is not right, and I'm beginning to believe it's the water pressure resistant lens that produces the blurry results Sony's trying to compensate with huge amount of sharpening, especially in low light.

Exactly my point. 506ppi is an overkill. +1 for zuckerboy. Instead of pixel density Sony should focus to build best quality screen.
