No one knew what it was going to be called, we just knew it would be the fifth iPhone and it was rumored there would be an iPhone 5 and/or iPhone 4s, some people thought they would be released together. It's the same here: iPad 3 or iPad 2s = the third iPad.

@SleepingOz You will. On announcement day you will rush to all of the tech sites to see it and look at all of it new specs and features. You will look at it for hours and then rush back to Phone Arena to bash it in the comments section complaining that it doesn't stack up to competitors just by looking on paper. Then, you will continually check your comment to see how many likes you get and anyone who disagrees with you, you will reply with saying dumb people prefer iOS (or something along those lines) and go on to say Android is supreme. Sound about right?

Roses are red

According to Apple
There is no control for you!
Thumbs up are green
Thumbs down are red
No widgets or live wallpapers
That's what makes me mad

15. darkkjedii posted on 19 Feb 2012, 14:47 6 4
You don't have any more freedom on android than u do on iOS. U have to jailbreak ios,and root android to really have freedom. U can customize both phones... More so on android with widgets, but to truly make it yours people root their androids. I had to root mine to really make it like I wanted it,and had to jailbreak my 4S. The 4S however works better than my skyrocket. It runs smoother, has much better battery life, doesn't crash, freeze, lag,or get choosy like my skyrocket. The 4S has a pretty, but boring interface... I'll admit that, but apples products simply work better than googles. I love both, and own both, but if I had to sell one I'd sell my skyrocket. And no tablet I've worked with out performs the iPad. It's about looks, and performance... Not just freedom of the ui's look.
18. corrifa posted on 19 Feb 2012, 15:06 4 4
Actually you can do just about as much stuff on android without root then you can on IOS with jailbreak... (themes vs winterboard)
And on a rooted android phone you can install an entirely different version of the OS. You cant even over clock on a jailbroken iPhone.
If almost any android phone only used static wallpapers, no widgets, and limited multitasking theyd be pretty close to IOS performance.
24. christianqwerty posted on 19 Feb 2012, 18:09 2 1
There are only a few android phones that can actually use the live wallpaper you all praise, without lagging so bad. I was playing with the infuse at the store, and it was so laggy, then i realized there was a live wallpaper.
20. ilia1986 posted on 19 Feb 2012, 16:01 6 6
With Android you can:
1. Use widgets.
2. Decide how many home screen pages you want.
3. Replace your launcher.
4. Replace your theme
5. Replace your keyboard
6. Get apps from the market which change your phone's core behavior (like setting a profile which disables ringing when I'm home for example)
7. Control exactly which processes are running on your phone, thus allowing you to:
8. Control your phone's performance.
9. Have a panorama wallpaper (on by default, can be turned off)
10. Have live wallpapers.
11. Access the phone's filesystem, which allows you to:
12. Store downloaded files from the web on your phone. Which allows you to:
13. Play\use\activate all kinds of files on your phone. Including MP3 ones.
14. Use your phone as a flash drive from the get go
15. Download apps from all over the web.
16. Have access to advanced camera settings without needing an external app.
17. Change the amount of icons on your application drawer.
18. Transfer files over bluetooth.
I could go on and on and on, but here's the important part:
All of these can be highly customized, and afaik, all of these can be done without rooting your phone. Not to mention the fact that rooting your phone allows you to completely change your OS via a custom rom, have a custom kernel to improve phone performance, overclock your phone, etc etc.
How I know all this? I got an iPhone 4. But I also got access to YouTube. I look at YouTube and see all these things, and more. I look at my iPhone - and realize just how pathetic iOS is compared to Android.

@ilia These are the things you should mention instead of just bashing iOS. I call this CONSTRUCTIVE critique. This informs users, I like it.
But I also have to say that the majority of these features interest maybe 20-30% of worldwide users that are not that electronic friendly like you. I think this makes the iOS more popular overall: It's boring but easier to use, not to mention that it looks nicer and feels like a precious thing rather than a plasticky thing.
I guess... to each its own.

Why is the Apple still reporting record profits? Because iPhone users are just as oblivious to the looming recession as they are to the people around them!

38. ilia1986 posted on 19 Feb 2012, 23:50 2 0
cellphonator. When I bash Apple - you know - I sorta expect people to actually KNOW these things already. This is a long and incomplete list. I can't possibly copy it every time I make some joke about Apple on one thread or another.
When you hear promotion over the radio telling you that buckling your seat belt will save your life - you don't need to hear the statistics every time just to make this promotion believable. You just think a bit and realize the truth.
christianqwerty: the emphasis is more on CHOICE. Maybe someone would prefer to have a little lag to have a beautiful animated wallpaper on his\her phone? Nobody - not even Apple - gets to decide what people want and what they don't.
Also: as for iOS smoothness - I have an iPhone 4 - and iOS - especially 5 - can be laggy at times. Yes, generally iOS WILL be slightly more smooth overall, if you don't tweak your phone a bit in most cases (kernel optimizations, custom rom, etc etc). But that's akin a Pentium 2 running Windows 3.11 vs a Core i7 running Windows 7. Of curse the former will be much faster at performing basic tasks than the latter. Would you actually want to use it? I doubt it.
There is nothing. NOTHING that iOS can do, and Android can't. And iOS has every capability to be as great as Android is. Cydia proves it. But no. Apple has to go out of their way and make the OS more closed than a blind monk wearing a chastity belt. And why? For their products to be "Easy to use?!" Bullocks. Profit and control, that's why.
Wanna imagine life according to Apple? That's easy. You got ONE TV channel, one set of clothes (iWear) you wear, one type of food (iFood) you eat, one type of car on the road (iCar), one brand of wrist watches (iClock), etc etc. Reminds of something? Sure does. The irony.
We should be thankful that Apple only focuses on a few products at a time - and don't go to other markets, for now. Other wise your life would be iLife - with a monthly subscription of 99$ for every new pair of socks you buy.
Apple is worse than the 90's Microsoft (remember how it was hated so much?), because At least Microsoft never limited you as to what software you can install, from where and what could you do with your PC.
43. cellphonator posted on 20 Feb 2012, 00:41 0 0
You ASSUME that people knows about this, but it's not always like that. Folks check these forums to learn about what's going on new in the market, it's not for cell phone sales people only.
All these stupid jokes are just filling the columns and make it harder to have a better clue of the product, it's annoying, isheeep here fandroid there, give me a break!
Re ideal Apple world, of course it's like that, but we're not in China or Cuba, here, I don't know for how long, we have freedom to choose what to buy.
45. ilia1986 posted on 20 Feb 2012, 02:39 1 0
Yes, well the problem is that the de facto Apple marketing message is "The iPhone can do this this this this and this - and no other phone can't!". See the "If you don't have an iPhone" commercials for reference.
Android commercials don't do that. That's why a lot of people who buy an iPhone have NO IDEA that there are other alternatives which are as good, and often times better. That's why it's important to keep the public informed - via everywhere.
As for your freedom of choice what to buy - if Apple takes over more markets - there effectively will be NO freedom of choice what to buy. Look at what's going on already in US - many people will only recognize the iPhone, and nothing else. Even though they have no idea what apps are, or what iCloud is, etc etc. And why? Because for a lot of people - owning an iPhone has become the only socially acceptable choice when it comes to smartphones. The iPhone has become a status symbol. If you don't have one, you're "not cool". And most people wouldn't risk not being cool, right?

40. cellphonator posted on 20 Feb 2012, 00:21 0 0
First, I learned on this forum that Apple makes more profit on each device than any other manufacturer, they also charge outrageous fees to carrier.
Second, Apple is a master in marketing, they make people desire to have their shiny products, they created a trend, a fashion, a status symbol or what ever you want to call it.
People spend on cell phones more than before, sacrificing other stuff they would otherwise buy. Who buys expensive phones and can't afford it, it's just financially stupid.
iPhone users, also, pay the same price w/ contract as higher end Android. Did you check Samsung sales? Are those buyers as oblivious to the recession as iPhone users or not?

i'm an Android user and reading that list...man, i gotta be honest i must fit the category of simplified people b/c i'm thinking to myself "who cares about all of that"...i just use the phone how i use the phone. the annoying thing about most Android users are that they overly/unnecessarily anal about phones...jesus christ. it gets even more annoying than the iPhone fanboyisms. i make calls (very few), i text, i browse web heavily, listen to mp3, i have multiple email accounts i manage and i use various apps...that's it. so its highly customizable, i get it, but so what. the customization...flash support..."freedom of choice" argument gets so redundant. out of your list of functions the masses are probably interested in 5 (at best). nobody cares about overclocking, except for people that dwell on these types of websites. iPhone is successful not only b/c it is intuitive but it focuses on what the average joe's actually care to use. i said all that to say that even though it probably won't go away the Android vs. iPhone battle gets a little tiring. if you dissect both platforms i'm sure we can find flaws w/both. with that long laundry list of benefits...i'm kinda confused on why you have an iPhone...
39. ilia1986 posted on 19 Feb 2012, 23:59 1 0
Dude, everyone got their needs. You obviously got yours. But you can't speak on behalf of the masses. You seriously underestimate the Common Joe in 2012 if you think that he doesn't care about personalization. People always loved personalization. That's kinda why we all wear different clothes.
You got your needs, that's fine. From reading them, I can conclude that you could have done with a good Nokia phone. Nokia C7 perhaps. Or Windows phone. Or, - yeah - iPhone. But for people who want more - and believe me - there are a hell of a lot of those - who are - as you say - "anal about their phones" - there's Android.
So don't say that "Nobody cares", until you bring me some statistics.
41. dreammixer (banned) posted on 20 Feb 2012, 00:22 1 2
The statistics are record iPhone sales numbers and highest customer satisfaction ratings in the industry.
44. ilia1986 posted on 20 Feb 2012, 02:32 1 1
Which only means that the Apple marketing team is doing it's job. Nothing more. Had these people bought an Android phone beforehand - most wouldn't even consider the iPhone. The fact that Android has double the market share of iPhone kinda says that.
50. cellphonator posted on 20 Feb 2012, 08:15 0 0
Marketing is the job done before you buy to entice you, customer satisfaction is YOUR rating of the product.
You bought an iPhone right? They did a good job convincing you, but you didn't like the product because you're a particular skilled electronic user. So, in your case, you're not satisfied while in most cases people is. End of the story.
51. ilia1986 posted on 20 Feb 2012, 08:53 1 0
True. But that can possibly be said about all the other people who bought the iPhone as well Maybe they too didn't like the iPhone after they bought it. And of they did - maybe they liked it because they didn't know what Android is capable of.
52. cellphonator posted on 20 Feb 2012, 09:23 0 0
Again, sales speaks.
I was in a Best Buy, the other day and talking to a senior employee in computer and cellphones dept, I asked him his opinion about Apple, and he said: "I personally use PC and have nothing Apple yet, but I haven't seen any product, between everything we sell in here, to have this level of loyalty to the brand and higher rate of returning customer. Usually who buys Apple never looks back unless they need to use a particular software for work, think AutoCad for architects".
Coming from a non Apple guy with yrs of sales that meant something for me.
53. ilia1986 posted on 20 Feb 2012, 10:02 0 0
Yes, but I claim that this all is due to successful marketing which borders brainwashing.

As I said - moron - when a person gets a product - and he\she has been brainwashed by marketing - he\she will NEVER look ay anything else not associated with that brand.
Watch the Samsung commercials which pretty much show this perfectly. The women in line for the iPhone 4S says "Samsung" in such a disgust as if Samsung products are worse than Fiats compared to the Apple Ferraris. It's called brand loyalty, and in case of Apple - it's blinding loyalty. People are simply oblivious to other alternatives.
