Huh. So despite chewing up half of all US smartphone sales in the fourth quarter, Apple actually didn't gain a huge amount of OVERALL market share, and obviously didn't kill Android's market share at all.

well, it flies right in the face of iFanboys who claim that the iPhone 4S, being on three carriers now, along with its cheaper cousins, would destroy Android. Not so much, seems like.

Okay, I promised myself at this point I wouldn't blame Windows Mobile's decline for WP's poor showing as Microsoft is lumped together. So I won't. Simply put: MS needs to get LTE devices on Verizon, needs to convince Sprint to carry a new model every 4 - 6 months, needs Nokia to do well, and needs to bow their heads come Sunday and thank the Man for AT&T, for it could be a lot worse for them without the Evil Empire. No more excuses. Either you are in it to get momentum for WP8 and become a major OS, or you are just in it to have a complete ecosystem and your OS is an afterthought to all your other ventures. You CAN'T WAIT for Q4 and Apollo to make a move. Sell to the carriers now, or stay in the single digits forever.

Android is blessed with the ability to offer something special for everyone. What do you want: High end monster tech machine? Game playing system? Beats Audio? A 'Pro" branded work device? A cheap smartphone? The Green Robot has you covered. I cannot see a future where it is not the #1 OS. Not unless Google hire's HP's former CEO to run things. Otherwise they are good.

Apple is all about profits, and they are stupid high. They are playing a different game than anyone else. And playing it well.

Blackberry is ...
Okay, I give up. What is Blackberry doing???

Apple is on top, Android dominates market share, Blackberry isn't dead, Windows is on the rise... then next week Android's on top, Symbian dominates market share, Windows isn't dead, and who-the-hell-knows is on the rise. These statistics seem like they contradict themselves and they definitely confuse me, idk what's going on but I love WP7 and I can't turn my back on Google. yay me!

That only applied to sales for the quarter. This applies to total owners of each platform.

whats wrong only saying samsung had fun in Q3 only ? FYI, il 2011 as a whole apple sold 93 million devices, yes thats WITH the iPhone 4S, and Samsung soled 95 Million samrtphones ! so samasung was number 1 in 2011, and will be number 1 in 2012 ;)

it's not confusing at all, it's simple mathematics.
despite huge sales of apple in q 4, I pointed out that android still sold a bit more overall in the US , when that survey was released.
people were just misinterpreting it - it showed a percentage of difference in phones sold in the quarter, between android and apple.
and if apple sells less phones in quarter than android, how can it take away it's market share?
no, they are both taking it away from others.

and again I point out that worldwide, android gained huge advantage over all other OS-es, selling at least 60 million phones (next to 37 million of iPhones )
