Latest Samsung ad has Apple faithful "Sam-sunged"
0. phoneArena 20 Jan 2012, 13:05 posted on
Samsung says it will have an ad running during this year's Super Bowl and you know that it will probably be another in the recent series of spots that takes a jab at Apple iPhone users; the latest commercial ads a new verb to the language, Sam-sunged...

Samsung must be going through hard times. This is a little much now.
12. MorePhonesThanNeeded (Posts: 612; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
I guess that explains why they are the most popular android phones and definitely a thorn in Apple's side considering how much litigation and the fact that Apple tries to block sales of Samsung's devices...right hard times. $hit iPhone users say, lol.
Face facts, Samsung has a big hit with the Galaxy S line. I have used the SGS II, that phone is amazingly smooth and has a very large screen and it looks wicked. I personally don't like Samsung phones that much, but the Galaxy S II is something of a benchmark. Samsung is pretty confident in their product, why you mad brah?

I love how all the apple fanboys are complaining about these ads, hilarious. I am still amazed at this point that the apple douches still believe iPhones are better than Androids, its kinda sad once you think about it.

another comercial full of fanboys hatters exept iKing you cool

I like this video. Samsung finally does what most other companies aren't: pointing out features that Android has over the competition.
27. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
I don't like what they picked out though. Turn by turn navigation is great but its a free app on the app store. Not to mention the unboxing part is a bit nerdy. The idea is good but they could of done a better job.
Anyway i remeber when the iphome commercial said if you don't have an iphone you don't have an iphone people were insulted. Why aren't people insulted by this similar ad campaign. I am not i think its funny but others should be if the apple ad insulted them.
31. Sniggly (Posts: 6193; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
The fact that Maps with Navigation is a native feature of Android means it's naturally going to be very robust, as well as having better long term support. Google is very good about keeping its native programs updated with bug fixes and new features.
Also, the Apple ad was insulting because it implied that having an iPhone was the be all to end all while listing some mundane features and programs that competing platforms already have. This ad is funny because it targets the hype over the iPhone, while saying "yeah, our product is also better."
33. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
Well thy give the impression that you can't get navigation on a iphone witch isn't true. Also the navigation apps are pretty good the google one is better but thats not the issue. The issue is they gave a false impression.
Now you are critizing apple for advertising features that others have? Well you see the difference is apple didn't give the impression no else had these features.
35. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
Follow up to last paragraph. All they said was their verison was better. For example the appstire commercial they said they had the largest selectiom of apps not only one with appstore. Therefore implying other appstores exist. Also its not insulting because they were just sayig our protuct is better. And i agree sammys comercial is funny.
36. taz89 (Posts: 1765; Member since: 03 May 2011)
they gave the impression that out of the box you can get navigation on the s2 where as on the iphone you cant..its not a lie.
38. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
You know what i rewatched it and caught the part where she said how much did you pay for that app. (to be fair she said it quitly and most people don't pay great attention to commercials and will get the impression iphone doesn't have nav) So basically they are advertising the fact that you can save a dollar. O wow impresive. Mundane feature much?
44. iamcc (Posts: 1319; Member since: 07 Oct 2011)
Even people with the iphone will admit that android navigation is better...
45. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
First of all I said android navigation is better. Second of all the commercial doesn't advertise its better it just advertising it has it. And third of all people don't really care whats better as long as it gets you where you want to go and they both will so its kind of a mute point anyway.
49. Sniggly (Posts: 6193; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Actually, the iPhone commercials would say "if you don't have an iPhone, then you don't have feature x, which does x." They implied that there were no meaningful alternatives.
The Samsung commercial was pointing out that navigation comes native without having to download/purchase anything from a third party. That's all, really. Beyond the fact that it's there for me, the inclusion of features like that is nice because irt shows how much thought Google put into the OS in order to make the OS as feature rich as possible.
50. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
They are just saying there product is the best. I hope when you are advertising your product you say your product is better and explain why it is better then the other companies. They certainly do that and don't say any lies. They never said the other products aren't worth having but simply their is better. What do you expect for them to proclaim android's market is better then theirs?
Yea I agree its nice to have navigation without downloading an app but what would have been more effective for samsung to do was to explain why its better. Saying they have it will trick some people into thinking apple doesn't have turn by turn navigation because why would samsung be advertising the fact they have nav if apple has it too. Which I don't get why they are doing it either.
Also I don't really think this shows thought by google because I am sure apple thought about it but we all know how slow they implement new features into the iPhone. Not to mention that was kind of the point of the appstore really whatever the iPhone doesn't have there's an app for that. Which is kinda nice for apple because now they don't have to rush to implement turn by turn navigation into iOS and when they do it will most likely be better and more polished. I am sure they will include some innovations in the way we use navigation. Are maybe just be easier to use. I have an idea for them witch is to incorporate siri to include natural directional dictation. Who knows they could just get google's version but there have been rumors of apple doing maps in house.
57. taz89 (Posts: 1765; Member since: 03 May 2011)
to some people a dollar is alot...none the less even if it is cheap to get such a feature fact is fact...its the same as the if you dont have an iphone ads you could do all those things on android as well.
59. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
Yeah to some people a dollar is a lot like the people who make iPhones for 70 cents an hour however for people who buy smartphones a dollar isn't a lot considering the cost of an iPhone is over 2 grand in a two year contract. The difference with the iPhone ads is they aren't claiming that android doesn't have what they are advertising they are claiming their's is better. Samsung is claiming that iOS doesn't have certain things such as screen size and 4g. Thats why its a bit disingenuous to include navigation. Anyway In truth I don't have a problem with the ad and think its funny for calling out fanboys but anyone who doesn't have a problem with these ads and had a problem with the apple's out is where my problem is.
63. blazee (Posts: 197; Member since: 02 Jan 2012)
Actually my friend has an iphone and he tried downloading navigation on his phone. All the free ones he could get of the app store only gave him writen directions. He wanted a real navy so he payed a dollar to get one. Still it was only a basic navy that didnt say the street names, so he wasnt happy about that one either. Yea its only a dollar but doesnt the iphone come with a gps hardware installed in it? So why doesnt apple provide a preloaded softwear on the phone that operates it. Insted they make you pay "only a dollar" to make extra money of you like they dont make enough already.
64. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
Well maybe your friend picked a bad one because their are mutiple ones on the appstore. They are some with very good reviews and I had good experiences with some as well. And again someone else complaining about a dollar. Ok you spent 200 dollars on a iphone most likely and a dollar is half a percent of that and you spent 2 grand for service and data and texting plans insurance and all that over 2 years. 1 dollar is .05% of that. Also apple doesn't even make that full dollar so really its not that big of a deal.
69. blazee (Posts: 197; Member since: 02 Jan 2012)
I agree spending a dollar on an app wont even make a slight dent on almost anyones pocket. It is not about saving that one dollar though, It just shows how apple goes about their users and customers. Their devices come with certain hardware installed but they charge you extra to instal the software to operate it. They know that eventually almost everyone will use it so why not make couple of bucks of them(knowing they could get away with it) in the process resulting in millions in extra income. If it wasn't for competition apple would probably love to charge extra for every currently free app there is available.

In all fairness, the original Droid commercials (Droid Does series) also pointed out what the iFail series couldn't; Samsung is being more brazen about it now, actually including the imagery associated with iDevices rather than just alluding to them. Regardless, funny commercials. Apple's advertisements would be false advertising if it weren't for the fact they include the apple-only products (facetime, itunes, etc) and you notice they don't include ads for the Retina display anymore either, since that's an LG invention that they're putting on all their high-end phones, like the Spectrum and Nitro HD
13. tacohunter (Posts: 408; Member since: 06 Nov 2011)
This reminds me of the pc vs mac commercials (apple's response to microsoft)
Much more funny ads, here are some of the get a mac ads (really good ones)
But what samsung did now is much worse.
16. SlimSoulja86 (Posts: 639; Member since: 03 Nov 2011)
Ok, honestly! I didnt find them funny, rather boring and too, too, way too corny.
My Opinion Anyway.
26. tacohunter (Posts: 408; Member since: 06 Nov 2011)
I guess when apple will have a respond to the samsung-the next big thing is already there ads, you wouldn't find them funny either. The first two samsung ads against apple were funny but the last not
29. SlimSoulja86 (Posts: 639; Member since: 03 Nov 2011)
I guess we don't have the same "funny bone" located in the same place. so let's agree to disagree, as a Lover of most Apple things. i think this Ad is funny while telling the truth.
14. SlimSoulja86 (Posts: 639; Member since: 03 Nov 2011)
LOL, I think I got Sam-Sunged, instead of getting myself a bigger version of an iPod touch, i got me Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, I mean why would you buy an iPod when you have an iPhone? [doesn't make sense to me] i luv my iPhone alot, but iPad? Not much.

many android friends got a iPad I guess it could be a common doing
23. SlimSoulja86 (Posts: 639; Member since: 03 Nov 2011)
I think is good to experience a diffident OS, but what differentiate Android devices are the manufacturer's skins, which in most cases keep Android fans experimenting with other manufacturer's devices within the same OS, unlike iOS which looks the same across all iOS Devices,
43. protozeloz (Posts: 5186; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
well that's true.
you can have a RAZR and a Galaxy Tab and feel its different
47. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
They won't feel worlds apart I mean it all feels like its on the same ecosystem (not counting sense) but there will be some noticeable differences of course. Thats one of the reasons the carriers like skins over stock to the android fan's dismay.
55. protozeloz (Posts: 5186; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
I don't mean different in a bad way tho
37. taz89 (Posts: 1765; Member since: 03 May 2011)
i wouldnt be surprised if many android phone owners also owned a ipad....its funny how some fanboys will literally just buy apple or just buy android,it makes no sense to stick to one brand when there is other better brands or devices out there.

i would get an ipod or an ipad.. but iphone ? not much way overated

It's kind of sad when the only way you seem
To be able to sell your product is to stereotype
The competition and incessantly mock them.
Turn by turn directions? Come on. Does Samsung think
This is the future? Is that as far as they are looking?
Me: Siri, is Samsung too old-school to matter anymore?
22. SlimSoulja86 (Posts: 639; Member since: 03 Nov 2011)
As a lover of things Apple [i love any gadget that'll simplify my life], At least Samsung doesn't blow things out of proportion and kind of deceive us, which is what Apple is doing with "This changes everything".
Come on! this is funny and it's all true, as a media student, this Ad tops them all from me with little details that just sprang out, when you watch the video for the second time. So let's stop making excuses for Apple. Apple needs to catch up, it's 2012 already, sometimes it's not how something is designed, it's how it functions and that little extra mile it can take [i hope i make sense]. Samsung is showing off those little details that makes SGS2 different from Apple, and that my friend it's called "Competitive Advertising"

this isn't their only commercial dude, umad siri doesnt understand you half the time or you look like a complete moron talking to your phone because you are too lazy to type whatever you want siri to find for you?
39. taz89 (Posts: 1765; Member since: 03 May 2011)
siri lol if it only worked the way it was advertised then it would be awesome...for some reason it just has a hard time even getting close to remotely what i ask...the only thing that worked consistently for me was when i asked whats the weather but its actually quicker to just go into the weather app to see the weather than to ask siri.
66. jayhuck (Posts: 4; Member since: 20 Jan 2012)
Siri is still in beta, in case anyone forgot. And I
Don't know what kind of weather app you're using
But my Siri is much faster than going to any weather
App. And she can do sooooo much more. Siri is the future. Voice control is the future which is why the
Siri team is now one of the largest at Apple inc.
It's so funny to watch apple make products then
Watch everyone else copy them... Then mock them
Lol when apple is clearly leading the industry
19. Meth7 (Posts: 20; Member since: 13 Dec 2011)
Galaxy S2 has been one of the few Android devices out there bringing a real competition with the iphone.

WOS also likes the iPhone. He likes both for
21. skymitch89 (Posts: 924; Member since: 05 Nov 2010)
Funny, doesn't Google Maps for iOS come with voice navigation as well as the Android version? And Google Maps Navigation is free.
24. SlimSoulja86 (Posts: 639; Member since: 03 Nov 2011)
Well my iPhone 4, doesnt have voice navigation, and I use a TomTom to go around, and I'm not quite sure if it re-calculates.
